Management of the work process in health and nursing: nursing leadership in hospital units

Managing hospital units and care offered to the customer meets difficulties in the leadership of this work. To identify leadership forms analyzing the imaginative dimension of the nursing team concerning the managerial behavior of the nurse in its daily work, a social poetic method was applied with a nursing team in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, in 2004. The GRID Theory guided the quarrel of the results. Produced knowledge: the leadership style of the nurse intervenes with the organizational culture and the care offered to the customer by the nursing team; consequently, the habits and forms of interaction and social relationship in the nursing team change, and the knowledge and power of the nurse are questioned. It was concluded that in order to face managerial problems in health and nursing, the nurse must develop a dialogical and liberating leadership, managing nursing care through an educative and continuous process aiming at the incentive and orientation of those who are led in the execution of their activities.
