Learning of the unveiling of mothers' information about caring for babies in a Family Health strategy

This is a descriptive, exploratory, transversal study. Its objective is to characterize pregnant women who were accompanied in a Basic Unit of Family Health in order to identify information acquired by the same subjects during their multi-professional pre-natal accompaniment in relation to the care given to their babies and to know of the sources of the information acquired. The sample consisted of 15 pregnant women. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire. The results showed that the majority of the pregnant women were aged 25-35 years, married, experiencing their first pregnancy, literate, catholic, and non-workers; while 66,7% reported not to have participated in orientation groups for pregnant women; 40,0% reported to have information on child-development and signals of childbirth, with 53.3% reporting to have never had information on care for the baby’s mouth. The majority of the information was received directly from doctors and nurses. The data shows that educational actions must be intensified for awareness and changes in mothers’ behavior.
