Research about the prevention of gynecological cancer in the state of Santa Catarina

The objective of this research was to comprehend the reality of gynecological cancer, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, through documental analysis of the raw data available in the Healthy Ministry's Data System. The methodology was based on epidemiology in order to analyze historical series. The data pointed out that there has been an increase in the prevention of cervical-uterine cancer, but the results showed a low coverage related to the low productivity of the public services and a data registry deficiency. Data about the early diagnosis of breast tumors was not available. The numbers about the Health Districts made the great difference in the population's coverage clear, in the policy priorities of politicians, in the decentralization of the cervicovaginal cytology unities and in the relation between services and the population to be attended, indicating that managerial and technical problems have been hindering improvement in the quality of services and a decrease of the morbimortality numbers.
