This article is a reflection about the story of madness and the psychic sufferer from the creation of excluding spaces and the logic of confinement as therapeutical practice. On the other hand it presents the Brazilian sanitary reality in the 70's and the appearance of social movements that consolidated its wishes in the 1988 Constitution, thus allowing the existence of the Brazilian process of psychiatric reform.
