History of the present time and the ethical-political challenges of historiography in the 21st century

Abstract:

The articulation of historical research with the temporal proximity of the generation to which the historian belongs, and with recent demands for the past and memory, has sparked debates on the ethical and political commitments of the historian with the subjects and problems of the present. Sensitive to this historical moment, the dossier “History of the present time and the ethical-political challenges of historiography in the 21st century” presents a set of reflections that address questions about archives and history, popular culture and the media, the pandemic and immediate history, environmental history, denialism and revisionism today. In all cases, the researchers present new themes, innovative approaches and articulations between the present and historical temporality and, with this, expand the reflections, research procedures and socio-political action of the historian community in the struggles and opening up of the world for the present and the future
