Open-access Barons in a reticular point of view: analysis of social networks, power and nobility in the Zona da Mata Mineira in the segundo Reinado

Abstract

This essay is an approach to the imbricated family network that gravitate around the barons of Juiz de Fora, Santa Helena and S.J. Nepomuceno, which were the main shareholders of the Directing Council of the Railroad União Mineira (EFUM). This research started from assumptions of the Social Networks Analysis (SNA), the Genealogy and Prosopography. This ended up in a methodology that allows one to see the social relationships, view in a kind of sociograma of this net and even assess the relational nexus of a quite great group, such this one that involved the Zona da Mata Mineira's traditional families.

Network; power; nobility
