Intellectual and political cultures in Portugal: around Antero de Quental and António Sérgio

The present article aims to analyse the intellectual productions of Antero de Quental and António Sérgio in order to develop a rationalist political culture opposing the messianic and providentialist interpretations about the History of Portugal. At the same time, inasmuch as we deal with two authors who were separated in the time about half a century, the article tries to understand to what extent Antero and Sergio belong to the same political family.
