Landing of the second slavery in Brazilian historiography

The chapters of this edited volume aim to analyze the role of slavery in shaping Brazilian capitalism in the nineteenth-century. For this purpose, the authors use the analytical apparatus provided by the concept of second slavery. The review points out that this conceptual incorporation reveals tensions between history and economic interpretations.
