ABSTRACT
The aim of this paper is to analyze the North American public-digital diplomacy in relation to Brazil in 2018, through the study of Vice President Mike Pence’s tweets during his stay in Brazil. For this purpose, we appealed to Systemic-Functional Linguistics, centrally to the categories related to the interpersonal function of language; and the bibliography on Brazil-United States international relations. The results show, through the remarkable presence of assertive and passionalizing elements, the construction of a confident, pragmatic and patriotic profile in relation to the defense of North American values, with a substantial defense of family and freedom; despite the continuity of a certain monroism in relation to Latin America and Brazil.
