Alforrias e etnicidade no Rio de Janeiro oitocentista: notas de pesquisa

Abstract

This article verses about the patterns of manumission over the city of Rio de Janeiro of the XIX century. It detects the double movement represented by the passage from the paid manumissions to the free ones, and the parallel predominance by the Africans among the slaves that could get to the world of freedom. It searches the explanations to both events and makes appointments to methodological procedures that may allow a better comprehension of the issue.
