The anonymous intermediaries of authorship: Raízes do Brasil and the diffusion of the name “S(é)rgio Buarque de Hol(l)anda”

ABSTRACT

This article analyzes the propagandistic and/or anonymous reviews of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda’s 1936 book Raízes do Brasil. These reviews were published in the press and circulated in numerous cities across the country. Attentive to the sometimes seemingly insignificant vestiges of documentation, this study aims to understand the pathways through which the featured author-figure slowly emerged.
