This two terms are closely associates to the concepts of phýsis (of nature) and moîra (of necessity or destination) and this study wants to show how this interrelation is done.

Liberty and power are two subjects correlated along the history of the political modern philosophy. In the texts of Hobbes, the idea of liberty as absence of impediments to the actions helps us to think the duty of obedience to the sovereign power and the relations between politics and right. A situation of legal vacuum, in which everything is allowed, is, nevertheless, impossible, so that the solution of Hobbes consists in supporting the idea of the natural right like original individual right linked to the preservation of the life. His ideas of the natural right and of the natural law, which serve of basis to the duty of obedience to a sovereign, lean on legal, theological and biological principles. In spite of that, such principles do not surround the question of the extension of the sovereign power. Hobbes resorts to the analysis of the language. His contractual theory affirms the principle of preservation of the life on basis of the politics and supports the idea of the creation and of the maintenance of the sovereign power in the act of language implicated in the representative structure of the political covenant.

This paper intends to examine a tension within Kant's theory of respect for the moral law. Originally, in the Groundwork, respect is conceived by Kant as a mere effect or by-product of the immediate determination of the will by the moral law. However, in the Second Critique, Kant seems to confer to respect a more positive role by assigning to it the task to weaken the influence exercised by the inclinations, thereby promoting the influence of the moral law on the will. We show that this shift in Kant's theory of respect is entirely due to a concession to a widespread model of determination of the will by inclinations, which is of Humean inspiration. Besides, we show that that Humean model must be completely abandoned because it is at odds both with Kant's considered view of moral motivation and of the determination of the will by inclinations.
  • A questão do sentido em Kant segundo Eric Weil Artigos Originais

    Costeski, Evanildo

This article is intended to show that, according to Weil, Kant discovered the problem of sense. Weil, however, believed that Kant failed to final an appropriate language to adress the problem he discovered. Kant's language was still ontological. Despite this, Weil thought Kant succeeded in closing the gap between nature and liberty in the third Critique.

    Salviano, Jarlee Oliveira Silva

We analyse in this article the theory of knowledge by Arthur Schopenhauer included in his dissertation On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason (1813), his essay On Vision and Colours (1816), the two first books of The World as Will and Representation (1819), and the appendix at this work, intitled Criticism of the Kantian Philosophy. We have here in mind the relation of Schopenhauer with the previous philosophies (especially that by Kant) and the establishment of his intuition of world as Will based in an epistemology of Kantian sources.

This article tries to delineate the proposition that to Feuerbach nature is an autonomous and independent being that comes first in comparison to the spirit. To him, material nature, that exists in its qualitative differentness, independent from thinking, is the original source, the immediate, not deductible, uncreated fundament of all real existence, that exists and consists in itself, when put vis-à-vis the spirit. Feuerbach sets nature against the spirit, for it is his understanding that nature is not a pure other that only through the spirit was set as nature, but as the first source, the objective material reality that exists outside reason and is given to man by means of his senses as fundament and essence of his life. Therefore, one is dealing first with that essence (light, air, water, fire, plants, animals etc.) without which man does not exist or could be thought of as existing. To Feuerbach nature is all objects and essences put together. Under this condition it is possible to conceive nature as guarantor of externality itself as if it could exist independently from us, an entity that is unaware of itself and which exists in itself and by itself; for this reason it shall not be seen as something which it is not, i.e., neither divine nor human. Nature always existed, i.e., it exists in itself and has only meaning in itself; it is itself, i.e., it has no mystical essence, it does not hide behind it any absolute being whether human, divine, transcendental or ideal.
  • Theodor Adorno: filosofia de conteúdos e modelos críticos Artigos Originais

    Musse, Ricardo

Here it is aimed to highlight some personal characteristics of Theodor Adorno's philosophical exposure through his relation of mutual dependence amongst the concrete and the speculative. The denial of definitions, the search for constellations, the building of "critical models" become more intelligible when observed under the light of the concepts and the non-conceptual. Therefore, it is intended to better explain the relation between truth and history in Adorno's thinking.

One of the challenges in the human and social sciences researches is the understanding of the everyday life as field to identify and capture the forms of appropriation of the objective reality by social being. At the same time, the understanding and identification of the subjective answers in view of the objective conditions. As analytical category we detach the reflections of Lukács concerning the alternative category, taking it as mediation between teleology and posited structures, between process of objectivation of teleology and posited structures.
  • O paradoxo de Chalmers Artigos Originais

    Leal-Toledo, Gustavo

A isso Chalmers chamou de The Paradox of Phenomenal Judgment.

The Zombie Argument proposed by Chalmers, instead of working as a defense of dualism, banishes qualia to a 'world' where they cannot influence our judgments about ourselves. For this reason, according to the argument itself, we may be all zombies and not know it. This is what Chalmers called The Paradox of Phenomenal Judgment. The problem is that he accepts this paradox as part of his theory. This philosophical move, however, is not acceptable, for the paradox undermines Chalmers' theory, by showing that the zombie argument is, actually, an argument against dualism. Chalmers tries to solve this problem with many arguments based on the status of consciousness as brute indubitable explanandum. However, this attempt is a failure by a series of reasons showing that, even if he were right, we could still be zombies and not know it.
