Abstract
Although Le Corbusier’s plan for Rio de Janeiro has never been seriously considered and Agache´s plan was put aside to be partially implemented in another moment, urbanism (city planning) in Rio de Janeiro cannot be discussed without an understanding of the activities and ideias of Armando Augusto de Godoy, one of the most prolific writers about the subject in Brazil. This article explores empirically and analytically the ideias and activities of Godoy until his death in 1944, framing his ideas and practices in the context of some ideas of the French philosopher Michel Foucault such as his concepts of bio-power and discipline.
