ACCESSIBLE CULTURAL TOURISM: PERCEPTIONS ON THE MANAGERS OF THE MAIN THEATERS IN BRASÍLIA

ABSTRACT:

Cultural Tourism is a segment that takes different forms, one of which is visits to monuments that produce culture, such as theaters. These should be accessible to different publics, including wheelchair users. The article analyzes the accessibility for wheelchair users in the main theaters in the city of Brasília/DF from the perceptions of the theater managers. A qualitative, exploratory study was conducted for this purpose, with the application of an interview script, analyzed in light of bibliographic and documentary research. A total of eight theaters were included in the survey. Although all the managers considered accessibility to be important for hosting this public, six managers claimed that their spaces were not adapted to receive wheelchair users. They cited financial difficulties as the main barrier to making the necessary adaptations. For this scenario to change, managers need to know the legislation and accessibility standards, in order to adapt their spaces and seek resources to overcome the barriers to implementing these adaptations.
