Abstract:
Objective - To introduce a methodological framework for conducting inventories of tourism offerings using flexible data collection instruments tailored to the specific contexts of Brazilian municipality/territory. The resulting data are intended for publication and dissemination via e-books in virtual environments.
Design/methodology/approach - The research adopts an exploratory-descriptive design with a critical, qualitative approach. It combines bibliographic and documentary analysis of scientific journals, academic literature, and official publications from the Ministry of Tourism, alongside fieldwork undertaken to collect data and test the proposed methodology.
Results - This paper proposes an updated and empirically validated methodology for compiling tourism inventories across different Brazilian municipalities and territories. The approach respects the local particularities and dynamics of each context. This theoretical and methodological proposal was refined over a three-year period (2022-2024) through application in hinterland and coastal regions, seeking to verify and adjust the data collection instruments and improve the methodologies.
Practical implications - This methodology contributes to the field of planning and tourism management based on its tactical-operational adaptation to the different Brazilian realities, enhancing the strategic value of the inventory.
Originality/value - The proposed framework encompasses five technical dimensions and a set of attributes subject to inventory. Dimensions 4 and 5 (Tourism Trade and Commercial Activities Supporting Tourism) represent the innovative aspects of the proposal, as the offer of commercial services for tourism was found to be essential for simulating and diversifying a destination’s economy, considering the nature of tourist consumption in visited locations.
Research limitations - Emerging challenges include consolidating partnerships consolidating partnerships with the Ministry of Tourism and state-level tourism agencies to validate and implement the methodology in regional and local realities; and adapting the inventory process to the technological tools and resources available in the academic and market environments.
