Sustainable Development Goals within the framework of the Local-Neighborhood scale. Case of the “Virgen de Lourdes” neighborhood in San Juan-Argentina

Abstract

The Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDG) sets global goals to encourage a new global alliance, establish an action plan and expand the scope of action at various scales. The objective of this work is to present a methodological proposal made for the “Virgen de Lourdes” neighborhood -province of San Juan, Argentina- that translates said SDGs on a local-neighborhood scale. It was carried out in a participatory manner, conceiving the community as active agents that contribute to decision-making, together with academic and government actors. It is intended to facilitate cooperation between actors, agendas and urban policies. Thus, Urban Sustainability Indicators and action strategies are obtained according to the neighborhood SDGs. In addition, a Sustainable Development Index is proposed that allows evaluating the level of incidence of actions in the realization of the SDGs at the different levels of government. This allows offering options for the progressive change that this Agenda projects towards a sustainable city model. The location of the SDGs at the local-neighborhood level allows us to affirm that they represent an effective tool for contributing to sustainable development and social inclusion.
