Evolutionary Conservatives The Politics of Time of the “Projeto de Nação” of Brazilian Military Sectors

In this text, we analyse the document “Projeto de Nação: O Brasil em 2035,” published in 2022 by groups linked to military and conservative sectors, based on its projections of the future and invocations of the past. To this end, we will use the analytical category “politics of time,” which helps us interpret the temporal framing constructed as a form of self-legitimation and political intervention. We hypothesise that the “Projeto de Nação” explores temporal images and figurations to naturalise historical meanings and understandings linked to an idea of nation and Brazilian culture that privilege homogeneity over difference. To this end, the document resorts to characteristics of the utopian genre and disregard for theoretical reflection as forms of authorial concealment and neutralisation of the situated character of the enunciating subject.
