The following article intends to contextualize the discussion about the actions of the historical individual, and the dynamics between him and the normative systems during the construction of History's writing. Therefore, we'll analyse the role of the individual as an author and his relation with the product of his work. As a case study we'll analyse the letters of the Minas Gerais settler Paulo Pereira de Souza, a grocery merchant who lived in Minas Gerais in the decades of 1750 and 1760. It is from Paulo Pereira's writing that we'll identify the various forms of narrative and expression that naturally generate the different perceptions of the historian.
