ABSTRACT MOS (soil organic matter) is a natural carbon reservoir, and divided into different stages of decomposition according to its solubility and structural complexity. In view of this context, this work aimed to quantify the carbon content in the humic fractions of the soil organic matter under an agroforestry system in three toposequences in the swamp of altitude in Pernambuco, Brazil. The study was carried out on the Yaguara farm, and the studied areas were native forest and three toposequences of agroforestry system. Soil samples were collected in trenches 1.5 x 1.5 m, at depths 0-20, 20-40 and 40-60 cm, with four replications. The carbon concentrations in the humic fractions of the soil decreased with increasing depth. The area with agroforestry system had the highest concentrations of carbon in the humic fractions. The stocks of humic fractions found in the agroforestry system area showed higher average values in the top area 5.62, 9.72 and 22.53 Mg ha-1 in relation to native forest 4.84, 8.28 and 19.20 Mg ha-1, respectively for fulvic acid, humic acid and humine. Among the evaluated areas, the soil with agroforestry system top area has great potential to increase the carbon storage in the humic fractions of the soil.Analysis of the world concentration of pellet exports (2012-2018)10.5902/19805098653632024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZSoares, Helena Cristina CarvalhoSouza, Álvaro Nogueira deSantos Júnior, Edvaldo PereiraNunes, Anna Manuella MeloCoelho Junior, Luiz Moreira

ABSTRACT This work analyzed the world concentration of pellet exports between 2012 and 2018. Data on pellet exports from the Food and Agriculture Organization Of The United Nations – FAO were used as were the following indicators: Concentration Ratio [CR(k)], Hirschman-Herfindal Index (HHI), Theil Entropy Index (E), Gini inequality coefficient (G) and the Hall-Tideman Index (HTI). From the results, it was noted that there was an increase in the amount of world exports of wood pellets, with an increase from 9.71 x106 t, in 2012, to 23.67 x106 t, in 2018. There was dominance of the European continent over exports; at the country level, the main ones were: United States, Canada and Latvia. The indicators showed that pellet exports were, for the most part, concentrated and uneven. The continental and subcontinent levels showed the highest degree of concentration, however, as of 2016, there were signs of a possible deconcentration of this market. All methods used point to a process of deconcentration in pellet exports from 2016, this process can be intensified with technological expansion and incentive policies.Tolerância à dessecação de sementes de <i>Butia eriospatha</i> (Mart. Physical-mechanical performance and heat transfer analysis of OSB with ZnO nanoparticles10.5902/19805098685422024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZSilva, Maria Fernanda FelippeSilva, João Vítor FelippeFavarim, Higor RogérioFerreira, Bruno SantosBarreiros, Ricardo MarquesCampos, Cristiane Inácio

ABSTRACT The use of nanotechnology has been growing in the last decade due to its different properties when compared to macro-scale material. In the wood composites area, nanoparticles are used in order to reduce its hygroscopicity and improve its protection against decay. The aim of this work was to evaluate the physical-mechanical performance and heat transfer inside OSB (Oriented Strand Board) produced with pine wood and castor oil (Ricinus communis L.) polyurethane adhesive with addition of zinc oxide nanoparticles in two different percentages (0.25 and 0.50%) and compare them with the control treatment). The tests performed were density, moisture content, swelling in thickness, static bending and screw withdraw, according to European standards. At the end of the tests, a statistical analysis was performed, through the ANOVA test, with a 5% significance level to verify whether there was difference between the means. The properties of the studied panels were not influenced by the addition of nanoparticles, due the small amount of nanoparticles added. In heat transfer, the panels without the addition of nanoparticles reached a higher temperature compared to treatments with nanomaterial, however, none reached the desired temperature of 100°C. The panels produced attended the class 1 of OSB panels, except in swelling in thickness.Simulated drift of 2,4-D and dicamba in pecan (<i>Carya illinoinensis</i> K. ABSTRACT The cultivation of pecan (Carya illinoinensis K. Koch) and olive trees (Olea europaea L.) near pasture and grain cultivation areas in southern Brazil has caused herbicide drift problems. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the phytotoxic effects of herbicides 2,4-D and dicamba on the growth of pecan and olive tree seedlings. A total of 8 underdoses were used, as follows: 0, 1.56, 3.125, 6.25, 12.0, 25.0, 50.0, and 100% of the recommended doses of herbicides 2,4-D (670 g a.e ha-1) and dicamba (720 g a.e ha-1) for burndown. The applications were carried out in 80 cm-high seedlings with the aid of a CO2 pressurized sprayer with a spray solution volume of 150 L. ha-1. The analyzed variables were phytotoxicity at 7, 14, 21, 30 and 60 days after spray (DAA) and plant height and stem diameter at 30 and 60 DAA. The drift of hormonal herbicides caused damage to the growth of pecan and olive trees, decreasing their stem diameter and height, with the herbicide dicamba showing the greatest damage. In addition, doses above 12.5% of both herbicides resulted in phytotoxicity levels greater than 60%, and doses of 50 and 100% were responsible for leaf senescence.Physiological changes induced by hardening in seedlings of eucalyptus as a function of growth stages10.5902/19805098712082024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZRocha, Maria Eunice LimaMalavasi, Ubirajara ControVera-Cruz, Maria Soraia FortadoRistau, Ana Carolina PinguelliCordeiro, Noélle KhristinneBarbosa, Jaqueline de Araújo

ABSTRACT Hardening appears as an interesting strategy to improve the quality of seedlings in forest nurseries, favoring their survival in the field. Thus, the objective of this research was to show the physiological alterations resulting from the application of methyl jasmonate and stem flexion in three stages of growth in Eucalyptus urograndis seedlings. The experiment was carried out in Marechal Cândido Rondon, Paraná, and Eucalyptus urograndis seedlings were used. Treatments consisted of weekly applications of methyl jasmonate (MeJA), daily imposition of stem flexion and a control treatment. Analyzes included quantification of flexural stiffness, lignin content in stems and roots, phenolic compounds in leaves and roots, electrolyte leakage in roots and field survival. In seedlings of Eucalyptus urograndis at 100 days after emergence (DAE) and at the three distances used to evaluate flexural rigidity, the highest averages were observed in seedlings submitted to chemical and mechanical treatments, coinciding with the increase in lignin content in the stem. In the roots, after quantifying the extravasation of electrolytes in Stage I, the means decreased with the application of treatments. In the field phase, there were no statistically significant differences between seedling survival assessments, quantified every 15 days, for a period of 90 days after planting. However, seedlings in Stage I were lost because they were too young and could not tolerate the stressful conditions observed in the field.Activity of an azadirachtin-based product against <i>Gyropsylla spegazziniana</i> (Lizer and Trelles, 1919) and its interaction with the entomopathogenic fungus <i>Beauveria bassiana</i>10.5902/19805098712112024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZLoeblein-Verdério, Jaqueline SuelenAlves, Luis Francisco AngeliRode, Priscila de AndradeBordin, CristinaFetter, IsabelaGuimarães, Ana Tereza Bittencourt

ABSTRACT Yerba mate ampoule, Gyropsylla spegazziniana (Lizer and Trelles, 1919) is one of the main pests of yerba mate crops. This insect attacks sprouts leading to gall formation and defoliation. The nymph’s habit of living inside galls makes them difficult to access with chemical insecticides, hampering the effectiveness of chemical control. This study aimed to evaluate the systemic and contact activity of the azadirachtin-based product (via irrigation and spraying) on nymph and adult stages of the ampoule, both in laboratory and field conditions. In vitro interaction of the product with the fungus Beauveria bassiana (Balls.-Criv.) Vuill. (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) was also evaluated. After the exposure of nymphs to plants treated with azadirachtin, a reduction in adult emergence was recorded (65–99% depending on the concentration applied). It was observed 80% of adult mortality in plants previously treated with the product (residual effect) and 90% of mortality after direct pulverization of the product on the insects. The product did not affect B. bassiana fungal growth, conidial viability, and conidial production on culture media. A synergistic interaction was observed between the azadirachtin insecticide and the fungus in laboratory. In the field trial, after three applications by irrigation of azadirachtin, 67.9% reduction in the number of galls was achieved five weeks after the first application. No phytotoxic effect was observed on yerba mate plants treated with the product. The results of our study demonstrate that the azadirachtin-based product and its association with the fungus B. bassiana have potential in controlling G. spegazziniana.

Methodology for the phenotypic evaluation in <i>Guazuma crinita</i> trees in Ucayali, Peru10.5902/19805098716752024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZRevilla-Chávez, Jorge ManuelLópez-Galán, Edinson EduardoGonzales-Alvarado, Antony CristhianSáenz-Ramírez, Lyanna HellenMori-Vásquez, Jorge ArturoRojas-Mego, Krystel ClarissaAbanto-Rodríguez, CarlosSebbenn, Alexandre Magno

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to present a methodological tool for the phenotypic evaluation in progeny tests of Guazuma crinita in producer plots of the Aguaytía river basin, Ucayali, Peru, which allows field technicians to standardize the morphological evaluation criteria of trees in forest plantations. Therefore, the phenotypic traits were evaluated for plant height (m), diameter at the height of the base (cm), number of branches, number of rings, stem form, branch orientation, presence and quantity of leaves. The heritability and genetic and phenotypic correlations between traits were also estimated. Therefore, 32 morphological categories were plotted based on the significant correlations (p? 0.05) shown between the place of planting, the stem form, the orientation of the branches and the presence of leaves. For the same reason, the progeny showed low morphological patterns, being a low factor of phenotypic variability. It is concluded that the correlations between the biometric and morphological traits evaluated, allowed to validate the phenotypic evaluation procedures of Guazuma crinita progeny tests at 36 months of age.Sucessão florestal inicial em áreas Alto-Montanas no Planalto Sul Catarinense10.5902/19805098718492024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZCruz, Maria Julia CarvalhoSilva, Ana Carolina daHiguchi, PedroHassan, Victória Oliveira CabralRaupp, Victoria GuimarãesFortkamp, Guilherme

Seed production potential of <i>Pinus montezumae</i> Lambert in central Mexico10.5902/19805098719112024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZHerrera-Hernández, RaquelLópez-Upton, JavierMuñoz-Gutiérrez, LilianaRamírez-Herrera, Carlos

ABSTRACT The forests that surround the cities of Mexico, Puebla and Tlaxcala are a source of environmental services for 25 million people. Pinus montezumae Lamb. is an abundant species in the area that is under anthropocentric pressure. The objective of the study was to determine the repopulation capacity of Pinus montezumae through its seed production capacity related with environmental (climate, soil) and ecological variables (tree density). In eight populations, 10 cones per tree were collected from 15 trees per population (1200 cones). Data analysis was carried out by parametric and non-parametric methods according to the behavior of each variable. Correlations were estimated using the Pearson and Spearman method. In all variables, significant differences were found (p<0.05) between populations and 3 out of 11 variables between trees. On average, 132 developed seeds were obtained per cone, 55% full, 43% empty and 2% pest-ridden. Production efficiency, reproductive efficiency and endogamy index were 0.33, 28.7 and 0.43, respectively. Some seasonal climatic factors showed associations with seed production. A lower seed production potential (r < -0.70) was observed in populations with high temperature and low precipitation and a higher seed weight when the average temperature increased (r = 0.74). Organic matter has a negative influence on seed weight (r = -0.94), while more acidic soils have greater potential for seed production (r = 0.76). Stand density did not show any significant correlation (p<0.05; r<±0.26). Despite the high fragmentation and low stand density in the populations, the reproductive indicators do not show a deficiency in the production of full seed, which indicates a correct natural regeneration process by seed. The substantial increase in temperature and reduction in precipitation could reduce the species' seed production and its ability to repopulate naturally. This warns of the need for adequate management of forests under an unfavorable climate scenario, and one that is focused on the renewal of populations through reforestation programs.Competitividade de <i>Gliricidia sepium</i> convivendo com diferentes plantas daninhas10.5902/19805098720262024-03-01T20:18:10.120000Z2020-08-09T06:48:24.991000ZCarneiro Júnior, Dener Cássio FerreiraMelo, Christiane Augusta DinizAlves, Ícaro Araujo SimãoCarmo, Andreza Lopes doSouza, João CarlosLapiccirella, Júlia do NascimentoGimenes, Morgana Baptista
