ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Brief History

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) (e-ISSN 1982-0275) is an advanced journal published by the Postgraduate Program in Psychology at the Life Sciences Center of the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas. Founded in 1983, it encourages contributions from the national and international scientific community.

Its mission is to promote and disseminate scientific and technical knowledge in the field of Psychology, as well as to discuss the meaning of practices in the professional and research fields, through the publication of original articles that represent relevant contributions to the field and its interdisciplinarities. It also publishes theoretical papers, critical reviews and communications relevant to psychology as a science and profession.

Compliance with Open Science

Since 2019, Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) has adopted continuous publication as a way of helping to speed up the dissemination of scientific research and access to up-to-date information. In addition, it is a Gold open access journal, meaning that all of its content can be accessed freely at no cost.

With a view to increasing transparency and debate on the current scientific model, we inform in the published article who was the Editor responsible for the evaluation process, we encourage the submission of preprints, as well as the deposit of research data. We recommend SciELO Preprints and SciELO data for this purpose.

The Open Science Compliance Form prepared by SciELO is available to fill in online and helps us to improve Open Science practices in the journal.

Publication Ethics

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas), with a focus on the application/execution of good practices in scientific publications, adopts the Guidelines on Good Publication Practices recommended by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), to carry out the editorial activities that guide the journal.

For research carried out with human beings and animals, we adopt Resolution No. 466 of December 12, 2012, established by the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

The journal uses the Ithenticate similarity detection tool to guarantee the originality of its publications. In cases where research misconduct is identified (as indicated by COPE), the journal submits the case to its editoriais board for deliberation.

Where applicable, the journal publishes errata and retractions in order to ensure that scientific communication does not give rise to doubts as to its credibility.

EDITORIAL POLICY

Preprints

In line with the Open Science movement, Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) supports the use of preprint servers and accepts manuscripts previously deposited in reliable servers such as SciELO Preprints.

Peer Review Process

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) has specific policies for evaluating and selecting manuscripts:

  • Papers that have been submitted to other journals, presented at previous events (national or international) or translated into other languages are not accepted, in order to preserve the originality of the work.
  • Before the manuscript is sent for evaluation by ad hoc consultants, it is submitted for pre-analysis by the Editorial Board. The following categories of work are accepted for publication: research reports, theoretical articles, systematic literature reviews, case studies, dossiers, short communications, letters to the editor (opinion articles) and reviews. Consideration is given to originality, pertinence, academic quality and relevance to the following areas: Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Perception and Neuroscience, School and Educational Psychology, Community Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapies, Health Psychology, Psychological Assessment, Organizational and Work Psychology.
  • Authors must suggest three possible reviewers for the manuscript, with their e-mail addresses and affiliated institutions, and may optionally indicate up to three reviewers they prefer not to review their work.
  • After initial approval, the manuscripts are sent to two specialized reviewers, which may include a reviewer suggested by the authors. In the event of disagreement, a third reviewer is appointed.
  • The evaluation process adopted by the journal is blind review, and the identities of the authors and reviewers are kept confidential.
  • The reviewers' opinions can be of approval, resubmission or rejection. The author is informed in all cases.
  • The analysis of similarity takes place in the second stage of the evaluation process, after the first ad hoc evaluation.
  • The associate editors analyze the opinions and recommend approval or rejection to the Chief Editor, who has the final say.
  • Manuscripts that have been rejected but can be reworked can be resubmitted as new papers, undergoing a new evaluation process.
  • Papers with suggested changes must be corrected by the authors within 30 days.
  • Accepted manuscripts can be returned to the authors for approval of changes during the editing and standardization process, according to the Journal's style.
  • The first option for opening the evaluation process proposed by SciELO is adopted by the journal, i.e. the name of the Editor or Editors responsible for the evaluation process is informed when the article is published.

Open Data

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) supports and encourages the sharing of data, codes, methods and other materials used and resulting from research, which generally underlie the texts of articles published in the journal. If external research data is used, please consult the Guide to citing research data (portuguese only) made available by SciELO. The repositories for depositing research data (portuguese only) recommended by SciELO can be used and are accepted.

Charging Fees

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) does not charge any fees for submitting, processing or publishing articles.

Ethics Policy and Misconduct, Errata and Retraction

Cases of scientific misconduct identified by Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) will be investigated by the Journal's editorial team, together with the Editorial Board, in order to determine the best option for resolving them.

Errata or retraction requests will be evaluated and handled in accordance with the guidelines provided by SciELO Brazil.

Conflict of Interest Policy

Conflicts of interest can be of a personal, commercial, political, academic or financial nature and can occur when authors, reviewers or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. When submitting a manuscript, authors are responsible for recognizing and disclosing financial or other conflicts that may have influenced the work. If there is, even potentially, a conflict of interest, the author(s) must disclose this in a signed document attached to the submission platform. For more information: Disclosure of Financial and Non-Financial Relationships and Activities, and Conflicts of Interest.

Adoption of similarity checking software

The journal uses the Ithenticate tool to check the similarity of articles. This check takes place during the evaluation process, in the second stage of the ad hoc review.  There is no acceptable percentage of similarity and each case is analyzed individually.

Articles derived from publications such as theses or dissertations are accepted and can be submitted. However, we believe that excellent research should generate different research products and not just sliced reproductions (salami publications), which is considered unethical conduct.

Authors may be asked to rewrite and adjust the manuscript according to the similarities found.

Gender and Sex Issues

The editorial team of Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas), as well as the authors who publish in the journal, should always observe the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines. The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines for reporting sex and gender information in study design, data analysis, results and interpretation of findings. In addition, Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) observes the policy of gender equity in the formation of its editorial board.

Ethics Committee

Research involving procedures with human beings must respect the ethical principles established by Resolution No. 466, of December 12, 2012, of the Ministry of Health, and the research must have been approved by the ethics committee of the institution responsible for it.

The declaration of approval from the ethics committee will be requested if the article is approved. The research registration number must be provided for evaluation.

Preparing the Manuscript

The manuscript should follow the following template provided by the editorial staff of Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas). Adapting to the template makes it easier for the Journal team to identify information and speeds up the process of normalizing and standardizing articles, which also has an impact on the final publication deadline after approval.

Article Submission Format

When the manuscript is submitted using the template provided by the Journal, it follows the docx format of Microsoft's Word text tool. Other forms of submission such as PDF or other text editing tools will not be accepted.

Digital Assets

Tables and Figures:

Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) accepts manuscripts with up to 7 (seven) illustrations in any format (e.g. tables, charts, images, graphs). The formats and extensions, sizes and resolutions are given in the Model.

However, with readers' accessibility in mind, we recommend using Tables and Charts, which are easier to read using assistive technologies, such as screen-reading software. Images and column graphs, among others, require more elaborate audio descriptions, which are not yet available in the Journal.

Citations and References

The journal Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) adopts the publication standards of the American Psychological Association - APA (7th edition, 2020), with some adaptations of its own style.

Citations

Article with two authors: cite both authors whenever the article is referred to.

Article with three or more authors: cite the surname of the first author followed by et al. and the year from the first appearance in the text. E.g.: Carneiro et al. (2011) or (Carneiro et al., 2011).

Quotations in a foreign language translated by the authors should be footnoted with the quotation in the original language. The source should read: Our translation. E.g.: (Pfeiffer, 2015, p. 24).

Literal quotations of up to 40 words should appear in the body of the text in quotation marks, indicating the author's surname, the date and the page. E.g.: It is possible to understand that “the material for artistic content and style is seized from reality and worked from there” (Barroco & Superti, 2014, p. 23).

Quotations of more than 40 words should be in a new paragraph, single-spaced, in font size 11 and indented 4cm from the left margin. Highlights in quotations should be justified as the author's emphasis (when the highlight is from the original) and our emphasis (when the highlight is yours).

References: Sort the items in the list of references alphabetically by author. Apply an offset indent of 1.27 cm to each item, which means that the first line of the reference is left-aligned and subsequent lines are indented 1.27 cm from the left margin. Use your word processor's paragraph formatting function to apply the offset indentation
