About the journal

Basic information

The Revista de Sociologia e Política is a quarterly publication of the Postgraduate Program in Political Science of the Departament of Political Science of the Paraná Federal University, in Brazil.

Created in 1993, it appears in the months of of March, June, September and December.

From issue 1 (November 1993) to issue 29 (November 2007) the references of the Revista de Sociologia e Política included only numbers. From the edition of June 2009 on, the Revista is referenced with volume and number: v. 16, n. 30. Such a change has been caused by an editorial innovation: due to the great amount of articles presented to evaluation and publication, when needed and possible the Revista will publish an exclusively electronic, supplementary issue - whose reference demands the indication of the volume. After three years, the continuous increase of the proposed articles made us to incorporate this additional number at the regular schedule of the periodical, making the journal quarterly since volume 21, number 45.

Open to scientific debate, the Revista de Sociologia e Política intends to be a pluralist space to divulge the results of substantive research, mainly of sociologists and political scientists. It publishes, preferably in Portuguese, original articles and bibliographic essays.

The Revista de Sociologia e Política give priority to manuscripts whose main theme pertains to political practice of social agents. Contributions from all the disciplinary areas of the Humanities and Social Sciences are welcome, whether in the form of theoretical discourse analysis, historical research, and especially, empirical research.

It has two fixed sections: a section for original articles, and a section for bibliographic essays

Positions and concepts emitted in signed articles are of the exclusive responsibility of their authors.

The abbreviated title of the journal is Rev. Sociol. Polit., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, and bibliographical references and strips.

Instructions to authors

Scope and editorial policy

The Revista de Sociologia e Política accepts original articles and bibliographic essays where the main theme is the political practice of social agents.

Original articles shall present substantive results of empirical research based on the analysis of data and unpublished evidence.

The bibliographical essays ought promote theoretical and methodological discussions about a particular research area in political sociology and / or Political Science. The debate should focus on actual discussions. Texts must contain reflections on the "state of the art" in a specific field of study (political parties and elections, political behavior, ideological values??, political history, international politics etc..). It is recommended the authors of essays to merge the national and international literature published on the topic discussed.

Manuscripts should be written in clear and concise Portuguese. Articles in Spanish and English will be accepted as well. Articles and bibliographic essays ought to have contain up to 10,000 words, including bibliographical references and appendices. Documents may hold a maximum of 10 floating elements (tables, charts, figures, etc.). They must be sequentially numbered according to each floating elements group (Table 1, Table 2, Chart1, Chart 2, Figure 1, Table 3, Chart 3, Figure 2, etc.)

The decision to publish the articles and the bibliographical essays relies on editors, based on reviewer's evaluations. The evaluation process occurs in two steps: first, manuscripts submitted are reviewed by editors to ensure the article conformity within the scope and journal´s area of interest. Articles approved in the first step are sent to the analysis of at least two reviewers who may: (a) indicate the publication, (b) indicate the publication whereas revisions are made, (c) reject publication. However, the publication of accepted articles will be conditioned to editorial aspects and the budget of the Revista de Sociologia e Política. The first step is accomplished in about 45 days. The second step is usually completed between 45 and 120 days.

The editors of the Revista de Sociologia e Política may suggest modifications to the author in order to bring contributions to the graphic and editorial standards. All texts, once diagrammed, will be reviewed by the authors before publication. The statements e concepts used in the signed articles are fully responsability of the autors.

The Revista de Sociologia e Política supports the codes of conduct of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (http://www.publicationethics.org/), as well as the guidelines of Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (http://www.cnpq.br/web/guest/diretrizes) and the manual for good practice in Science published by Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (http://www.fapesp.br/boaspraticas/).

3. Has provided final approval of the version to be evaluated;
