Basic information
Launched in March 2003, Trabalho, Educação e Saúde (TES) is the open access scientific journal edited by the Escola Politécnica de Saúde Joaquim Venâncio, of the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz. It is intended to publish debates, analyzes and investigations, of a theoretical or applied nature, on themes related to the fields of education and health, discussing them from the perspective of the organization of contemporary work, from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective. Professional training and qualification and the work process in health are central themes to the journal, which, in this way, believes to contribute to the improvement of social policies, in general, and of the Sistema Único de Saúde (Unified Health System – SUS), in particular. Since January 2018, TES has stopped publishing its printed version and has exclusively adopted the digital version in a continuous publication stream. In 2021, it started to use the Open Journal Systems (OJS) system for managing submissions. Certain of contributing to the consolidation of its central and unique theme – education and health from the perspective of work –, TES seeks to reach researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, professionals linked to health services, and professors and managers in the field of professional health education. |
Divulgation
TES has a profile on the main social networks for the dissemination of its content and interaction with readers, researchers and authors.

Continuous Publishing
In order to speed up the research communication process, in 2018, TES chose to discontinue the classic form of publication by periodicity and sequential pagination of articles within an edition and adopted continuous publication. Thus, after passing the peer review process and completing the editorial production, the article is published. |

Editorial policy
We ask that, before submitting your manuscript, authors read the Editorial Policy of TES and the About the Journal section to assess whether your text meets our editorial scope. Manuscripts must be submitted only through the Journal's online evaluation system, available here. Contributions sent by email will not be considered. To send the text to the journal, the responsible author must register in the system and then register their text, informing their ORCID and that of possible coauthors. When submitting a manuscript, it is essential to read and comply with the publication standards referred to by the journal. For additional information, consult the editors: revtes.epsjv@fiocruz.br TES' editorial policy aims to establish principles, guidelines and responsibilities for authors, referees and editors. To this end, it makes public the scope, types of contribution, the peer review process, the form of access to content, the position vis-à-vis copyright, and the norms and recommendations of ethical and responsibility standards in scientific communication. Central themes to the journal:
Sections The journal publishes unpublished contributions in the following sections: Essays Invited by the editors. Textual production with a broad theoretical-analytical scope, non-conclusive and non-exhaustive. Articles Presentation of research results of an empirical or conceptual nature. Size between 4,000 and 7,000 words, not counting bibliographical references, figures and notes. Review article Presentation of critical, systematic and methodologically consistent analyzes of the scientific literature on a priority topic for the journal. They should explain objectives, researched sources, and application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Size: 4,000 to 7,000 words, not counting bibliographical references, figures and notes. Conjuncture notes Invited by the editors. Systematic and grounded discussion on the current social scenario, especially from the standpoint of work organization, public policies, and the fields of health and education. Debates Invited by the editors. Discussion on central themes to the magazine. Interviews Invited by the editors. Opinion or position of a qualified interviewee in the journal's areas of expertise. Book review Invited by the editors. Book review related to the journal's fields of confluence, published or translated in the last three years. TES does not publish clinical trials. Open Access Policy In line with open science practices, TES adopts open and free access to its content, in the belief that it contributes to the democratization of knowledge. As long as the right to first publication in TES is preserved, the journal allows the publication of the final version of articles and research data in personal self-archiving systems, institutional repositories, specific repositories of a discipline and generalist repositories, when there are no specific repositories of a subject. When opting for the data deposit of their article, the author must inform in the chosen repository the access link to the related work. Likewise, you must inform in the article the link to access the deposited data. TES has instituted a number of procedures in line with Open Science. At the moment, open peer review is under discussion and we expect to implement some initiative throughout 2023. |
Ethics in publication
The editorial process of TES is guided by the norms and recommendations of ethical standards and responsibility in scientific communication, established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and by the principles of ethics in publication, established in the “Core Practices” and “Flowcharts” of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Next, we highlight some of the main responsibilities of the professionals involved in the publication. AUTHORS
REVIEWERS COPE has produced guidelines that establish the basic principles and standards to which all reviewers must adhere and which we reproduce here. We recommend reading the full document at https://publicationethics.org/files/Peer%20review%20guidelines.pdf. Thus, during the peer review process, reviewers should:

Form and preparation of manuscripts
The journal accepts articles and review articles as spontaneous submissions. Articles must present research results of an empirical or conceptual nature. Size between 4,000 and 7,000 words, not counting bibliographical references, figures and notes. Review articles must present critical, systematic and methodologically consistent analyzes of the scientific literature on a priority topic for the journal. They should explain objectives, researched sources, application of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Size: 4,000 to 7,000 words, not counting bibliographical references, figures and notes Presentation of the manuscript Submissions should be typed in Word, in Times New Roman, font size 12, and double-spaced. Articles, essays, and debates must also feature an abstract in Portuguese and English of no more than 200 words, in addition to a title in English and the title in the original language. The manuscripts can be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French. The title must be concise and representative of the content of the text. The author(s) must state whether the study is funded, if it is the outcome of a Master's dissertation or Doctoral thesis, whether it was approved by the area's Ethics Committee, and whether there are conflict of interests. Keywords No less than three and no more than five key words describing the content of the study, presented in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
For the elaboration of citations, TES follows the NBR 10520:2002 standard, of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), with slight modifications. TES adopts the Author-date system, with the authors' last names written in upper and lower case and year of publication, in the body of the article. Example: (Frigotto and Ciavatta, 2001). Direct citations, in the body of the text, with up to three lines, must be enclosed in double quotation marks, the author's surname and, in parentheses, the year and page. Or: direct quatation, in parentheses the author's name, year and page. Single quotes indicate a quote within the quote. If the direct citation exceeds three lines, it must be indented 4 cm from the left margin, in size 11. O uso intensivo da microeletrônica e a crescente automação dos laboratórios, principalmente a partir da década de 1980, vem causando mudanças importantes no processo produtivo, na organização do trabalho e nas relações sociais (Deluiz, p. 99, 1995). In indirect citations, the indication of the page(s) consulted is optional. Indirect citation occurs when the author makes a text based on the work of the consulted author. Example: As emoções, independentes da vinculação ou não com o ambiente organizacional, influenciam no desempenho das pessoas (Frost, 2003). If the citation has text translated by the author, it must include the term “our translation”. Example: “Ao final de duas semanas, avalie sua experiência” (McGraw. Dean; Francis, 2009, p. 28, our translation). In the case of citations with three authors, all must be named; more than three authors, only the surname of the first should appear in the text, as in Spink et al. (2001). To emphasize excerpts from the quotation, highlight them with the expression “our italics” in parentheses, after the quotation call, or “author's italics”, if the highlight is already part of the consulted work. Examples: A hipótese da escassez não explica sozinha o processo de mudança de valores de uma sociedade. (Okado and Ribeiro, p. 10, author's italics). Em termos de comportamento, a motivação pode ser conceituada como esforço e tenacidade exercidos pela pessoa para fazer algo ou alcançar algo. (Chiavenato, 1994, p. 165, our italics) Adopt the chronological order in which the documents were published, separated by semicolons, in the case of several cited in sequence. Example: (Crespo, 2005; Costa and Ramalho, 2008; Moresi et al., 2010). References For the elaboration of the references, Work, Education and Health is based on the ABNT standard NBR 6023:2018, with slight modifications. All cited references, including in notes, tables and figures, must make up the bibliographical references at the end of the text, in alphabetical order, without entry numbering and without space between them. In the references, a maximum of three authors with all names will be cited. In the case of more than three authors, mention only the first, followed by the expression et al. Authors' first names must be written in full in the references. Different titles by the same author published in the same year must be distinguished by adding a letter (a, b, c...) in lowercase after the date, both in the citations in the body of the text and in the list of bibliographic references. Journal titles must be written in full. The author is responsible for the accuracy and relevance of the references. For cases not exemplified, the author should consult the standard NBR 6023:2018, of ABNT. In case there is a DOI number for the document, it must be included at the end of the reference. Text review in Portuguese The journal reserves the right to suggest changes in informal uses of language and to correct non-standard variants of Portuguese. The authors are responsible for the professional copy editing charges, which should be performed by a professional chosen from a list of copy editors certified by the journal or another of your choice, as long as the professional follows the TES’s style manual for reviewers, available on demand. The translation to another language is optional.
Evaluation Process
a) publication as is In case of any divergences between the referees, a third opinion is requested in order for the editorial committee to make a decision, and the deadline for this is also 20 days. Manuscripts for which “major alterations” are recommended should enclose, with the revised version, a letter with answers to every recommendation made by the referees stating how the authors incorporated the comments, with special attention to the alterations that have not been incorporated. Each referee comments should be discussed separately. The evaluation flow with the possibilities of decision is described in the figure:
Authors can follow the manuscript review process through the online review system. The texts will be analyzed via evaluation forms and the following aspects will be considered for analysis: Article title, abstract, text development, originality and references; methodology; consistency of conclusions or results. Essay title, abstract, originality and relevance, text development and references; consistency of conclusions. Uniqueness The articles submitted to Trabalho, Educação e Saúde should not have been published previously, or sent simultaneously to another scientific publication. Under no circumstance should the articles submitted to the journal be withdrawn after the evaluation process has begun. Evaluation The evaluation is firstly made by the editors though a preliminary analysis that should not exceed ten days. If the manuscript is accepted in the preliminary analysis, the editors appoint at least two ad-hoc referees to further evaluate it. The average time for the peer evaluation, based on vol. 19, 2021 is three months. After the manuscript has been approved, the average time until publication, also based on the year 2021, is 1.6 months. The rejection rate of the manuscripts, based on the year 20201, was 83%. Author's rights The author(s) and/or holder(s) grant(s) to the journal Trabalho, Educação e Saúde, published by Escola Politécnica de Saúde Joaquim Venâncio, and to Fiocruz – Oswaldo Cruz Foundation the right of first publication of the work, as established in the document Terms and Conditions of the cession. The work may be reused in translations into any language, future re-editions and/or any publication vehicle for purposes of disseminating the journal, such as insertion in Digital Repositories. In accordance with the "Open Access to Knowledge Policy of Fiocruz", the assignment of copyrights to the journal Trabalho, Educação e Saúde and to Fiocruz is permanent, irrevocable, free of charge and non-exclusive, and includes all commercial and non-commercial property rights for the use of the scientific and/or artistic work, including voice, image and related rights linked to the work, during the entire duration of the copyrights and related rights, in any language. The term of cession and the term of responsibility for all aspects of the work are sent to the author(s), who must sign them and return them to the journal. The signed texts are the responsibility of the authors, and do not necessarily represent the opinion of the editors and members of the journal's Editorial Board. The provisions of Fiocruz's Open Access to Knowledge Policy apply, as applicable, according to the respective Ordinance. |
Manuscripts submission
Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal's manuscript evaluation system. First, the main author should register in the system and then register the manuscript. We ask authors observe and follow the manuscript submission instructions. For additional information, please ask the editors: <revtes.epsjv@fiocruz.br>. |
