ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Brief Background

Transinformação, founded in 1989, is a scientific journal published by the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas, specializing in articles that contribute to the study and scientific development of Information Science, Librarianship, Archival Science, Museology and related areas, being open to contributions from the national and international scientific community.

Open Science Compliance

Since 2019, Transinformação has adopted the modality of continuous publication as a way to contribute to the acceleration of the dissemination of scientific research and access to updated information. In addition, it is an open access journal Gold, that is, all its content can be accessed freely at no cost.

In order to increase the transparency and debate of the current scientific model, we inform in the published article who was the Editor responsible for the evaluation process, we encourage the submission of Preprints, as well as the deposit of research data. For such, we recommend SciELO Preprints and SciELO data.

The Open Science Compliance Form prepared by SciELO is available for completion online and contributes to improve the practices related to Open Science in the journal.

Ethics in Publication

Transinformação, focusing on the application/execution of good practices in scientific publications, adopts the Guidelines on good publishing practices recommended by the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), to carry out the editorial activities that guide the journal.

For research conducted with living beings or animals, we adopted Resolution 466, of December 12, 2012, established by the Ministério da Saúde do Brasil (Brazilian Ministry of Health).

The Journal uses the Ithenticate similarity detection tool to ensure the originality of its publications. In cases of identification of research misconduct (as indicated by COPE), the journal presents the case to its editorial board for deliberation.

In the cases in which it applies, the Journal adopts the publication of errata and retractions, aiming at a scientific communication that does not generate doubts about its credibility.

EDITORIAL POLICY

Preprints

Transinformação supports the submission of articles such as Preprints and accepts manuscripts previously deposited on trusted servers such as SciELO Preprints.

Peer Review Process

Transinformação has specific policies for the evaluation and selection of manuscripts:

- Works that have been submitted to other journals, presented at previous events (national or international) or translated into other languages are not accepted, in order to preserve the originality of the work.

- The initial evaluation is performed by the Editors, considering originality, relevance, academic quality and relevance to the field of Information Science, Librarianship, Archival Science, Museology and related areas.

- Authors should suggest three possible reviewers for the manuscript, with their emails and affiliated institutions, and may optionally indicate up to three reviewers who prefer not to revise their work.

- After initial approval, the manuscripts are sent to two specialized reviewers and may include a reviewer suggested by the authors. In case of disagreement, a third reviewer is appointed.

- The evaluation process adopted by the journal is blind (blind review), keeping the identities of authors and reviewers confidential.

- Reviewer’s opinions may be of approval, resubmission or refusal. The author is informed in all cases.

- The similarity analysis occurs in the second stage of the evaluation process, after the first ad hoc evaluation.

- Associate editors review reviews and recommend approval or rejection to the Chief Editor, who has the final say.

- Manuscripts rejected, but with the possibility of reformulation, can be sent as new works, undergoing a new evaluation process.

- Papers with suggested changes should be corrected by the authors within 30 days.

- Accepted manuscripts can be returned to the authors for approval of changes during the process of editing and standardization, according to the style of the Journal.

- The first option to advance the opening of the evaluation process proposed by SciELO is adopted by the journal, that is, the name of the Editor or Editors responsible for the evaluation process is informed in the publication of the article.

Open Data

Transinformação supports and encourages the sharing of data, codes, methods and other materials used and resulting from the research that usually underlies the texts of articles published in the Journal. In case they are useful Transinformação supports and encourages the sharing of data, codes, methods and other materials used and resulting from the research that usually underlies the texts of articles published in the Journal. If external research data is used, consult the Guide to citation of research data provided by SciELO. The repositories for filing research data recommended by SciELO can be used and are accepted.

Fees

Transinformação does not charge any fee for submission, processing or publication of articles.

Ethics and Misconduct, Correction and Retraction Policy

Cases of scientific misconduct identified by Transinformação will be investigated by the editorial team of the Journal, with the Editorial Board, in order to determine the best option for their resolution.

The requests for errata or retraction will be evaluated and conducted according to the guidelines provided by SciELO Brazil.

Policy on Conflict of Interest

Conflicts of interest may be of a personal, commercial, political, academic or financial nature and may occur when authors, reviewers or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. When submitting the manuscript, the authors are responsible for recognizing and revealing financial or other conflicts that may have influenced the work. If there is, even potentially, a conflict of interest, the author(s) must inform you in a signed document attached to the submission platform. For more information: Disclosure of Financial and non-financial Relationships and Activities, and Conflicts of Interest.

Adoption of similarity verification software

The Journal uses the Ithenticate tool to verify the similarity of articles. This verification occurs during the evaluation process, in the second stage of the ad hoc review.  There is no acceptable percentage of similarity, each case being analyzed individually.

Articles derived from publications such as theses or dissertations are accepted, and can be submitted, however, we understand that a research of excellence should generate different research products and not just sliced reproductions (salami publications) considered an unethical conduct.

Authors may be asked to rewrite and adjust the manuscript according to the similarity found.

Questions of Sex and Gender

The Transinformação editorial team, in addition to the authors who publish in the journal, should always observe the guidelines on Gender Equity in Research (Sex and Gender Equity in Research - SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information about sex and gender in the study design, data analysis and results and interpretation of findings. In addition, Transinformação observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board.

Ethics Committee

Research involving procedures with human beings must respect the ethical principles established by Resolution 466, of December 12, 2012, of the Ministry of Health, and research must have been approved by the ethics committee of the institution responsible for it.

The declaration of approval of the ethics committee will be requested in case of approval of the article. For the evaluation it is necessary to enter the survey registration number.
