This article presents a brief historical review of the trajectory, challenges and trends of the teaching of business and public administration in higher education in Brazil. This has shown to be a very timely study, considering several initiatives that have been taken lately by scholars and institutions dedicated to higher education in the country. The article first presents the trajectory of the teaching of administration in higher education and then discusses the main challenges faced by schools and scholars in this field, consolidates the most important trends in higher education, and finally points out the need for drafting an agenda for the debate involving institutions, its representatives and scholars.
