Abstract

SOUZA, Rafael de Abreu e. From Miss-Sambaqui to Sobral Monster archaeology in São Paulo between the 1930's and the 1950's. Varia hist. [online]. 2014, vol.30, n.52, pp.257-286. ISSN 0104-8775.  https://doi.org/10.1590/S0104-87752014000100012.

The article aims to highlight new data about the history of Archeology between the 1930s and the 1950s, through the examination of diverse sources, as the journals published in the Great São Paulo region. It intends to demonstrate that the research effervescence and the interest in Archeology during the period declined with the field institutionalization and professionalization, creating a dichotomy between official and amateur archaeologists.

Keywords : archaeology; São Paulo; institutions.
