MARTINS, Carlos José  e  MUNOZ, Jorge Andrés Jiménez. Modernity and the regulation of bodies: Elias meets Foucault. Motriz: rev. educ. fis. [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.1, e1018214.  Epub 06-Maio-2019. ISSN 1980-6574.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/s1980-6574201900010003.

This article seeks to reflect on the possibility of a meeting ground where Michel Foucault and Norbert Elias’ thought comes together around the issue of the regulation of drives and bodily practices within modernity. Such drives - among which we highlight the use of force and violence, as well as the acceptable regulation of their release and applications - have been the object of particular procedures within the modern era, whether seen in relation to individuals or from to the social body.

Palavras-chave : the regulation of bodies; biopolitics; modern sport; civilizing process.
