Resumo Neste artigo pretendemos analisar as intervenções artísticas politicamente engajadas de Miguel Januário, na última década, caracterizada pela premência de uma severa crise económica, financeira e social em Portugal. Ao trabalho que aqui apresentamos encontra-se uma finalidade assente num princípio heurístico primordial: o de demonstrar que a street art constitui matéria e objeto de intervenção social, demarcando um espaço próprio, definido e específico na denúncia e revelação de problemáticas sociais; multiplicando e questionando, assim, as formas e conteúdos das artes urbanas.

Abstract In this article we intend to analyze Miguel Januário’s politically engaged artistic interventions, in the last decade, characterized by the seriousness of a severe economic, financial and social crisis in Portugal. The work presented here underlies a purpose based on a primordial heuristic principle: to demonstrate that street art is a matter and object of social intervention, demarcating a specific space in the denunciation and revelation of social issues; also, multiplying and questioning, thus, the forms and contents of the urban arts.

Resumo O artigo aborda, em três etapas, os processos atuais de cooptação da street art e sua transformação em complemento estético e acrítico ao processo de urbanização neoliberal, focando na sua relação, não resolvida, da arte com o seu próprio sítio. Primeiro, através de uma perambulação imersiva na complexidade dum sítio específico. Segundo, através do engajamento crítico com a forma e a política da street art contemporânea. Terceiro, através duma especulação estratégica sobre a relação entre as noções de arte, de urbano e de sítio. O impasse atual da street art, argumenta-se, depende paradoxalmente de sua incapacidade de se tornar plenamente urbana. Uma street art com especificidade urbana não é uma superfície decorativa nem uma interrupção encantadora dos processos dramáticos de urbanização: ela é um campo de forças que torna esses processos visíveis, experimentáveis e, portanto, questionáveis. As obras “olímpicas” de JR e Kobra no Rio de Janeiro e a performance iconoclasta de Blu em Berlim são usadas para ilustrar e complementar o argumento.

Abstract This paper addresses the current co-optation of street art into an uncritical aesthetic supplement to the process of neoliberal urbanisation, by focusing on its unresolved relation with its own site. This is done in three steps. First, via a perambulating immersion into the complexity of a specific site. Second, via a critical engagement with the form and politics of contemporary street art. Third, via a strategic speculation on the relation between the notions of art, urban and site. Street art’s current impasse, I argue, paradoxically depends on its incapacity to become properly urban. A urban-specific street art, I contend, is not a decorative veneer nor an enchanting disruption to dramatic processes of urbanisation: it is a force-field in which these processes are made visible, experienceable, and thus called into question. The ‘Olympic’ works of JR and Kobra in Rio de Janeiro, and the iconoclastic performance by Blu in Berlin, are used to illustrate and complement the argument.

Resumo A partir dos aprendizados de uma etnografia das práticas de graffiti de São Paulo, realizada nos anos de 2016 e 2017, este artigo propõe um deslocamento do olhar a respeito deste fazer, a fim de refletir sobre aquilo que lhe escapa à primeira vista, isto é, certas dinâmicas que estão para além dos muros da cidade. Busca-se, sob esta perspectiva, descrever e refletir sobre os efeitos que estas práticas produzem nos sujeitos que pintam na rua, especialmente no que diz respeito à formulação de suas identidades e à maneira com que se relacionam com o espaço urbano. Este entendimento permite evidenciar a elaboração de uma existência particular na cidade, informada pelas experiências de pintar na rua.

Abstract Based on an ethnography of the graffiti practices of São Paulo, held in 2016 and 2017, this article proposes a displacement of the look on this subject, to reflect on what escapes it, at first sight, that is, specific dynamics that are beyond the walls. In this perspective, we seek to describe and reflect on the effects those practices have on writers, especially about the formulation of their identities and how they interact with the urban space. This understanding allows us to highlight an elaboration of a particular way of living in the city, informed by the experiences of painting on the street.

Resumo Diversas cidades têm incluído a arte urbana como parte das suas estratégias de promoção e planeamento turístico. Este facto deriva de uma gradual valorização social e legitimação institucional deste tipo de expressões estéticas presentes no espaço público. Em muitas cidades deparamo-nos, hoje, com processos de turistificação da arte urbana, uma dinâmica que está dependente de um conjunto de atores sociais. A turistificação da arte urbana tem consequências, não só ao nível da constituição da oferta turística da cidade, mas também ao nível das relações e interações que se estabelecem entre operadores e guias, turistas, artistas, instituições e comunidades locais. Com este artigo pretendemos refletir sobre a articulação entre a arte urbana e o sector turístico, partindo de um conjunto de dados preliminares de natureza qualitativa recolhidos no âmbito de um projeto em curso sobre arte urbana em Lisboa.

Abstract Several cities have included urban art as part of their tourism promotion and planning strategies. This fact derives from a gradual social valorization and institutional legitimation of this type of aesthetic expressions present in the public space. In many cities, we are now faced with processes of touristification of urban art, a dynamic that is dependent on a set of social actors. The touristification of urban art has consequences not only in terms of the constitution of the tourist offer of the city, but also in the relations and interactions that are established between operators and guides, tourists, artists, institutions and local communities. With this article we intend to reflect on the articulation between urban art and the tourism sector, starting from a set of preliminary data of a qualitative nature collected in the framework of an ongoing project on Urban Art in Lisbon.

Resumo Este artigo é parte de uma etnografia realizada em Lisboa sobre arte urbana e graffiti. O texto evidencia as fluidas e porosas fronteiras que se desenham entre conexões e produções da arte urbana. Como caso exemplar, segui a trajetória da writer portuguesa Tamara Alves, que, além de “artista de rua”, se autoidentifica como designer gráfica, tatuadora, performer e DJ. Notei que, na medida em que é dado ao artista a palavra possível de cerzir o underground com outros domínios singulares de atuação, ele passa a operar no circuito entre um dentro e um fora do mercado, entre trabalho e prazer, tal qual sinaliza o pontilhismo das experimentações efetuadas por Tamara Alves. Concluo, de modo provisório, que as divisas entre o tempo de fruição da vida e o relativo ao do trabalho cada vez mais se estreitam no âmbito das profissões consideradas criativas, configurando novas agências e modulações entre trabalho e arte.

Abstract This paper is part of an ethnography carried out in Lisbon on urban art and graffiti during the year 2013. The text highlights the fluid and porous borders that are drawn between the multiple connections and productions of urban art. As an exemplary case, we followed the vocational training path of Portuguese writer Tamara Alves, who in addition to being a “street artist” identifies herself as a graphic designer, tattoo artist, performer and DJ. We notice that, to the extent the artist is given the word that enables darning the underground with the practice of natural fields of professional performance, he/she will operate in the continuous circuit between an inside and an outside market, between work and pleasure, between playing and doing, as signals Tamara Alves’ pointillism of experimentations. We conclude, provisionally, that the boundaries between the time of fruition of life and that related to work are increasingly narrowed in the scope of professional practices considered creative, thus setting up new branches and modulations of what is known as work and profession.

Resumo Ao caminhar pelas ruas de Porto Alegre, nos deparamos com muitas mensagens voltadas às mulheres, falando sobre luta feminista, visibilidade lésbica, violência contra a mulher, empoderamento, entre outras. Essas palavras são pintadas, pichadas, coladas, estão nas paredes, muros, postes e prédios em um modo de fazer política que se mistura à arte urbana. Neste artigo, investigo sobre mulheres que utilizam o espaço urbano como uma tela para passar sua mensagem. Ao desviar da norma-padrão, em que o domínio do olhar e do espaço público é assumido como masculino, falo sobre a produção visual e artística de militância relacionada às questões de gênero e como isso se reflete na ocupação das ruas. A partir da observação e catalogação fotográfica das mensagens e de entrevistas com artistas, pesquiso sobre táticas do ativismo feminista relacionadas ao fazer artístico e à ocupação da cidade por corpos femininos.

Abstract When walking through the streets of Porto Alegre, we face many messages directed to women, talking about feminism, lesbian visibility, violence against women, empowerment, among others. These words are painted, “pichadas”, glued, they are on walls, buildings, poles, in a way of doing politics that mixes with urban art. In this article I investigate women who use urban space as a canvas to spread their message. By diverting from the standard norm, where the domain of the gaze and the public space is assumed to be masculine, I talk about the visual and artistic production of militancy related to gender issues and how this is reflected in the occupation of the streets. From photographic observation and cataloging of messages and interviews with artists, I research on feminist activism tactics related to the act of producing art and occupation of the city by female bodies.

Resumo Este artigo busca refletir sobre a relação entre o acesso às tecnologias reprodutivas (PMA) por casais formados por pessoas do mesmo sexo, especialmente de mulheres lésbicas na França, e diversificadas pixações e intervenções urbanas presentes no cenário citadino francês que tocam o tema das famílias lesbo/homoparentais e o acesso às ditas tecnologias. Especificamente, debate as disputas e atropelos entre pixações favoráveis e contrárias à diversificação de formas familiares e a correlação dessas disputas de pixações com a aceitação e a legitimação de famílias lesbo/homoparentais na França. Por fim, é averiguado que as disputas entre as pixações acabam por denotar, além da correlação entre cidade e família, o caráter político da arte urbana e a característica processual do parentesco.

Abstract This paper seeks to investigate the relation between the access to reproductive technologies by same sex couples, especially lesbian women in France and different graffiti and interventions in urban France that are related to the topic of lebo/homoparental families and the access to the referred technologies. Specifically, it discuss the quarrel and disputes between graffiti pro and against the diversity of family configuration and the relation between these quarrels and the acceptance and legitimacy of these families in France. In conclusion, it shows that the disputes among the different graffiti end up calling attention not only to the correlation between city and family but also to the politic character of urban art and the procedural feature of kinship.

Resumo Escrever, assumido genericamente no mundo do graffiti enquanto taggear, ou seja, enquanto gesto de intervenção de um suporte não estabelecido para aquilo, o muro, “o espaço tópico da escritura moderna” (Barthes, 2002), supõe uma operação contínua de expressão no espaço público, “um espaço sensível como um todo” (Didi-Huberman, 2017) que surge de um desejo, certo princípio de liberdade, subversão e reivindicação de soberania partilhado entre as/os writers. A voz e a presença das mulheres, uma categoria pensada desde uma “perspectiva ex-cêntrica” (Costa, 2002), não só é cada vez mais visível na prática do graffiti, mas supõe a existência de outra forma de escrita a partir de seus corpos e vivências, configurando outros protocolos de leitura nas cidades. Nesse sentido, propõe-se refletir sobre a autoria de graffiti realizado por mulheres, o processo de escrita e legibilidade da paisagem urbana e as visibilidades e invisibilidades em jogo na apropriação da cidade contemporânea a partir dessa prática artística.

Abstract Writing, assumed generically in the world of graffiti as a tagging, that is, as a gesture of intervention of an unexpected support for that, the wall, “the topic space of modern writing” (Barthes, 2002), presupposes a continuous operation of expression in the public space, “a sensitive space as a whole” (Didi-Huberman, 2017) that arises from a desire, a certain principle of freedom, subversion and claim of sovereignty shared between writers. The voice and presence of women, a category thought from an “ex-centric perspective” (Costa, 2002), is not only more visible in the practice of graffiti nowadays, but supposes the existence of another form of writing from its bodies and experiences, setting up other reading protocols in the cities. In this sense, it is proposed to reflect on the authorship of graffiti produced by women, the process of writing and readability of the urban landscape and the visibilities and invisibilities at stake in the appropriation of the contemporary city from this artistic practice.

Resumo O artigo toma como centro de gravidade etnográfico práticas desenvolvidas pelo coletivo de artivismo A Revolta da Lâmpada para discutir questões relacionadas à arte, dissidência e ocupação do espaço público. Nesse contexto, trata-se de apresentar algumas ações e noções desenvolvidas por esse coletivo, bem como pensar de que maneira elas podem ser entendidas quando vistas a partir de recentes discussões sobre ativismo cultural e artístico. Por outro lado, busca-se, igualmente, questionar a noção de um espaço público como entidade dada a priori assim como problematizar de que maneira essas questões se relacionam com noções clássicas sobre democracia e cidadania.

Abstract The article takes as ethnographic center of gravity practices developed by the artivist collective A Revolta da Lâmpada in order to discuss issues related to art, dissidence and occupation of public space. In this context, it aims to explore some actions and notions developed by this collective, as well as thinking on how they can be understood in the light of recent discussions on cultural and artistic activism. On the other hand, it also seeks to question the notion of public space as an a priori given entity as well as to problematize how these issues are related to classic notions of democracy and citizenship.

Resumo Através da errância do pesquisador pela cidade de Porto Alegre, o artigo explora diferentes intervenções urbanas e seus efeitos nos processos de subjetivação. Passando pela implementação de containers de lixo a diferentes formas de arte que se fazem presentes na cidade, o pesquisador constrói uma narrativa acerca das forças que compõem a cidade a partir dos efeitos de tais intervenções no tecido urbano. Nessa cartografia, lixo e arte são chamados a responder a necessidades de assepsia, corresponder a padrões de beleza, ordenar corpos, gentrificar e revitalizar espaços ditos precários e interferir diretamente nos modos de se viver na cidade. Por outro lado, as intervenções também captam murmúrios e denúncias da cidade, criam desvios nos fluxos urbanos, oportunizando experiências coletivas. Propõem, assim, novas estilísticas de vida atravessadas pelos encontros da rua, pelos detalhes efêmeros, pela arte subversiva e por outros tempos e movimentos possíveis no caos que dá forma ao urbano.

Abstract By wandering through the city of Porto Alegre, the researcher explores different urban interventions and their effects on the processes of subjectivation. From exploring the implementation of garbage containers to different art forms that are present in the city, the researcher builds a narrative about the forces that compose the city based on the effects of such interventions in the urban space. In this cartography, garbage and art are invited to respond to the need of asepsis, to correspond to beauty standards, to order bodies, to gentrify and revitalize precarious spaces and to interfere directly with the ways of living in the city. At the same time, the interventions also capture murmurs and denunciations of the city, create deviations in the urban flows, offering collective experiences. Besides that, they proposes new life styles that crossed by street encounters, ephemeral details, subversive art and other possible times and movements in the chaos that gives shape to the urban space.
