Este artigo é uma exposição do estudo analítico de um programa semanal da National Broadcasting Company (NBC), The Music Appreciation Hour, destinado a crianças e jovens escolares, realizado por Theodor W. Adorno durante sua participação no Princeton Radio Research Project (1938-1941). Tem duas partes: na primeira, Adorno analisou a pedagogia musical do programa; na segunda, apontou para as implicações culturais desse programa, que, embora não comercial e sustentado pela própria nbc, tinha todas as marcas da indústria do entretenimento comercial.

This paper is an exposition of the analytical study of The Music Appreciation Hour, a weekly classical music program of the National Broadcasting Company directed to children and young students, that Theodor W. Adorno carried out during his participation in the Princeton Radio Research Project (1938-1941). This study comprises two parts: in the first one, Adorno analyzed the musical pedagogy of the program, while in the second one, he pointed out the cultural implications of the program that, despite its non commercial character and nbc support, carried all the marks of the entertainment industry.

Expõe-se e analisa-se a técnica de análise de conteúdo com orientação psicanalítica adotada por pesquisadores do Instituto de Pesquisa Social (Adorno e Löwenthal, especialmente) no estudo dos discursos de agitadores da extrema direita norte-americana nos anos 30 e 40.

The content analysis technique with psychoanalytic orientation used by researchers of the Institute of Social Research (specially Adorno and Löwenthal) in the study of the speeches of extreme-right agitators in the USA of the 30's and 40's is exposed and analyzed.

A crítica das modernas sociedades capitalistas passa necessariamente pela crítica do indivíduo - a separação entre psique e cultura não é mantida quando uma forte tendência para uma sociedade unidimensional submerge o particular no universal totalitário. Por esse motivo, o conhecimento da subjetividade humana não é um objetivo exclusivo de psicólogos adentrando na imanência psíquica. Os filósofos críticos têm a mesma intenção, também - e a prova são os estudos frankfurteanos sobre o autoritarismo na década de 1940. Apresentaremos alguns aspectos da obra filosófica de Agnes Heller (1929-) relacionados com a questão do indivíduo e a urgência de construir os fundamentos teóricos de uma ética que possa servir de guia para a práxis humana nas nossas sociedades modernas.

The modern capitalist societies critique is now mediated by the critique of the individual - the gap between psyche and culture is not maintained when a strong trend for an one-dimensional society submerges the particular into the totalitarian universal. For this reason, the knowledge of human subjectivity is not an exclusive goal of psychologists intending to penetrate into the psychical imanence. The critical philosophers have the same intention, too - and the proof are the frankfurteans' studies on authoritarianism in the 40's. We shall introduce some aspects of Agnes Heller(1929-) philosophical work concerning about the individual's issue and the urgency of a theory of Morals that would serve as a guide for human praxis in our modern societies.
