Abstract Background The distinction between sensory neuronopathies (SN), which is by definition purely sensory, and sensory polyneuropathies (SP) and sensory multineuropathies (SM) is important for etiologic investigation and prognosis estimation. However, this task is often challenging in clinical practice. We hypothesize that F-wave assessment might be helpful, since it is able to detect subtle signs of motor involvement, which are found in SP and SM, but not in SN. Objective The aim of the present study was to determine whether F-waves are useful to distinguish SN from SP and SM. Methods We selected 21 patients with SP (12 diabetes mellitus, 4 transthyretin familial amyloid polyneuropathy, 4 others), 22 with SM (22 leprosy), and 26 with SN (13 immune-mediated, 10 idiopathic, 3 others) according to clinical-electrophysiological-etiological criteria. For every subject, we collected data on height and performed 20 supramaximal distal stimuli in median, ulnar, peroneal, and tibial nerves, bilaterally, to record F-waves. Latencies (minimum and mean) and persistences were compared across groups using the Kruskal-Wallis and Bonferroni tests. P-values < 0.05 were considered significant. Results All groups were age, gender, and height-matched. Overall, there were no significant between-group differences regarding F-wave latencies. In contrast, F-wave persistence was able to stratify the groups. Peroneal F-wave persistence was higher, bilaterally, in the SN group compared to SM and SP (p < 0.05). In addition, F-waves persistence of the ulnar and tibial nerves was also helpful to separate SN from SP (p < 0.05). Conclusion F-wave persistence of the peroneal nerves might be an additional and useful diagnostic tool to differentiate peripheral sensory syndromes.

Resumo Antecedentes A distinção entre neuronopatias sensitivas (SN) e polineuropatias sensitivas (SP) e multineuropatias sensitivas (SM) é importante para a investigação etiológica e para o prognóstico. Contudo, esta tarefa é desafiadora na prática clínica. Hipotetizou-se que a avaliação das ondas-F pode ser útil, por ser capaz de detectar envolvimento motor nas SP e SM, mas não nas SN. Objetivo Determinar se as ondas-F podem ajudar a distinguir entre SN, SP e SM. Métodos Selecionou-se 21 pacientes com SP (12 diabetes mellitus, 4 ATTR-FAP e 4 com outras neuropatias), 22 com SM (22 hanseníases) e 26 com SN (13 imunomediadas, 10 idiopáticas e 3 com outras neuronopatias), de acordo com critérios clínicos, etiológicos e eletrofisiológicos. Para cada indivíduo, foi aferida a altura e foram aplicados 20 estímulos distais supramáximos nos nervos mediano, ulnar, fibular e tibial, bilateralmente, para registrar as ondas-F. Uma comparação foi feita, por grupo, das latências (mínimas e médias) e persistências pelos testes Kruskal-Wallis e Bonferroni. Valores de p < 0.05 foram considerados estatisticamente significativos. Resultados Todos os grupos foram pareados por idade, sexo e altura. Não houve diferença estatística significativa entre os grupos quanto às latências das ondas-F. A persistência da onda-F foi capaz de estratificar os grupos, sendo as dos nervos fibulares bilateralmente maiores no grupo SN que nos grupos SM e SP (p < 0.05). Adicionalmente, a persistência das ondas-F dos nervos ulnares e tibiais também foi útil para distinguir SN de SP (p < 0.05). Conclusão A persistência das ondas-F dos nervos fibulares pode ser uma ferramenta adicional e útil para diferenciar síndromes sensitivas periféricas.

ABSTRACT Background: Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is a potentially severe disease that can present with refractoriness, recurrence, and evolution to death. In Brazil, the epidemiology of CDI seems to differ from that of the United States and most European countries, with only one ribotype (RT) 027-related case and a high prevalence of RT106. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of CDI and its possible association with ribotypes at a university hospital in Brazil. Methods: A total of 65 patients with CDI were included and stool samples were submitted to A/B toxin detection and toxigenic culture, and toxigenic isolates (n=44) were also PCR ribotyped. Results: Patients’ median age was 59 (20-87) years and there were 16 (24.6%) deaths. The median Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) was 4 (0-15) and 16.9% of the patients had CCI ≥8. The ATLAS score and non-improvement of diarrhea were related to higher mortality. A longer length of hospitalization was related to the enteral nutrition and use of multiple antibiotics. The period between CDI diagnosis and hospital discharge was longer in those who received new antibiotics after diagnosis, multiple antibiotics, and required intensive care treatment. Recurrence was associated with CCI >7. Twenty ribotypes were identified and RT106 was the most frequently detected strain (43.2%). No relationship was observed between the ribotypes and outcomes. CDI was present in patients with more comorbidities. Conclusion: Risk factors for higher mortality, longer hospital stay and recurrence were identified. A diversity of ribotypes was observed and C. difficile strains were not related to the outcomes.

RESUMO Contexto: A infecção pelo Clostridioides difficile (ICD) é uma doença potencialmente grave que pode se apresentar com refratariedade, recidiva e evoluir para óbito. No Brasil, a epidemiologia da ICD parece diferir da dos Estados Unidos e da maioria dos países europeus, com apenas um caso relacionado ao ribotipo (RT) 027 e alta prevalência do RT106. Objetivo: Avaliar os desfechos da ICD e sua possível associação com ribotipos em um hospital universitário do Brasil. Métodos: Um total de 65 pacientes com ICD foram incluídos e amostras de fezes foram submetidas à detecção de toxina A/B e cultura toxigênica e as cepas toxigênicas isoladas (n=44) também foram ribotipadas por PCR. Resultados: A idade mediana dos pacientes foi de 59 (20-87) anos e houve 16 (24,6%) óbitos. A mediana do índice de comorbidade de Charlson (ICC) foi de 4 (0-15) e 16,9% dos pacientes apresentaram ICC ≥8. O escore ATLAS e a não melhora da diarreia foram relacionados a maior mortalidade. Maior tempo de internação esteve relacionado à nutrição enteral e ao uso de múltiplos antibióticos. O período entre o diagnóstico de ICD e a alta hospitalar foi maior naqueles que receberam novos antibióticos após o diagnóstico, múltiplos antibióticos e necessitaram de tratamento intensivo. A recorrência foi associada com ICC >7. Vinte ribotipos foram identificados e o RT106 foi a cepa mais frequentemente detectada (43,2%). Não foi observada relação entre os ribotipos e os desfechos. ICD esteve presente em pacientes com mais comorbidades. Conclusão: Foram identificados fatores de risco para maior mortalidade, maior tempo de internação e recorrência. Uma diversidade de ribotipos foi observada e cepas de C. difficile não foram relacionadas aos desfechos.

Abstract Introduction Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T2* technique is used to assess iron overload in the heart, liver and pancreas of thalassaemic patients. Optimal iron chelation and expected tissue iron response rates remain under investigation. The objective of this study was to analyse serum ferritin and the iron concentration in the heart, liver and pancreas measured by MRI T2*/R2* during regular chelation therapy in a real-world cohort of patients with thalassemia. Methods We evaluated thalassaemic patients ≥ 7 years old undergoing chelation/transfusion therapy by MRI and assessed serum ferritin at baseline and follow-up from 2004-2011. Results We evaluated 136 patients, 92% major thalassaemic, with a median age of 18 years, and median baseline ferritin 2.033ng/ml (range: 59-14,123). Iron overload distribution was: liver (99%), pancreas (74%) and heart (36%). After a median of 1.2 years of follow-up, the iron overload in the myocardium reduced from 2,63 Fe mg/g to 2,05 (p 0.003). The optimal R2* pancreas cut-off was 148 Hertz, achieving 78% sensitivity and 73% specificity. However, when combining the R2* pancreas cut off ≤ 50 Hertz and a ferritin ≤ 1222 ng/ml, we could reach a negative predictive value (NPV) of 98% for cardiac siderosis. Only 28% were undergoing combined chelation at baseline assessment, which increased up to 50% on follow up evaluation. Conclusions Chelation therapy significantly reduced cardiac siderosis in thalassaemic patients. In patients with moderate/severe liver iron concentration undergoing chelation therapy, ferritin levels and myocardium iron improved earlier than the liver siderosis.

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the perceptions of Primary Health Care and Psychosocial Care professionals regarding their role in addressing the psychosocial impacts following hydrological natural disasters in southern Brazil. Method: a multiple-case, descriptive and integrated study with a qualitative approach. The participants were professionals and managers from Primary Health Care and Psychosocial Care in municipalities from southern Brazil. Data collection was carried out during the conduction of a funded project, including narrative interviews between January and May 2018. Data analysis followed the stages of Fritz Schütze's method. Results: interpretation of the narratives of the cases and their units of analysis comprised the following categories: 1) Health teams' performance in disasters; and 2) Cultural meanings and training for risk and disaster reduction. Demands for pre-flooding care, demands during the disaster event, and post-flooding demands: care in psychosocial support and territory surveillance were identified. Conclusion: the study identified actions perceived by health team professionals and municipal managers regarding disasters in a context of recurrent events. While recognizing cultural aspects for a resilient response, there are operational and training gaps for an effective management of the response and recovery plan at the community level.

RESUMEN Objetivo: conocer las percepciones de los profesionales de equipos de Atención Primaria de la Salud y de Atención Psicosocial con respecto a su desempeño frente a los efectos psicosociales posteriores a desastres naturales hidrológicos en el sur do Brasil. Métodos: estudio de casos múltiples, descriptivo, integrado y con enfoque cualitativo. Los participantes fueron profesionales y gerentes de Atención Primaria de la Salud y de Atención Psicosocial de municipios del sur de Brasil. Los datos se recolectaron mientras se ejecutaba un proyecto financiado, por medio de entrevistas narrativas entre enero y mayo de 2018. El análisis de datos siguió las etapas del método de Fritz Schütze. Resultados: la interpretación de las narrativas de los casos y sus unidades de análisis dieron lugar a las siguientes categorías: 1) Desempeño de los equipos de salud en los desastres; y 2) Significados culturales y capacitación para reducir riesgos y desastres. Se identificaron requerimientos de atención previos a una inundación; al igual que requerimientos durante el desastre, y posteriores a una inundación: cuidado en la atención psicosocial y vigilancia del territorio. Conclusión: el estudio identificó acciones percibidas por profesionales de equipos de salud y gerentes municipales en relación con los desastres en un contexto de eventos recurrentes. Aunque reconocen aspectos culturales para ofrecer una respuesta resiliente, se evidencian brechas operativas y de capacitación para que la administración del plan de respuesta y recuperación sea efectiva al nivel de la comunidad.

RESUMO Objetivo: conhecer as percepções dos profissionais de equipes de atenção primária à saúde e de atenção psicossocial quanto a atuação frente aos impactos psicossociais pós-desastres naturais hidrológicos no sul do Brasil. Método: abordagem qualitativa, tipo estudo de múltiplos casos, descritivo e integrado. Participaram profissionais e gestores da Atenção Primária à Saúde e da Atenção Psicossocial de municípios do Sul do Brasil. Coleta de dados durante execução de projeto financiado, com entrevistas narrativas entre janeiro e maio de 2018. Análise dos dados seguiu etapas do método de Fritz Schütze. Resultados: a interpretação das narrativas dos casos e suas unidades de análise, compuseram as categorias: 1) Atuação das equipes de saúde nos desastres e 2) Significados culturais e capacitação à redução de riscos e desastres. Foram identificadas demandas de atenção pré-inundação; demandas durante o evento do desastre; e demandas após inundação: cuidado na atenção psicossocial e vigilância do território. Conclusão: o estudo identificou ações percebidas por profissionais de equipes de saúde e de gestores municipais com relação aos desastres em um contexto de recorrentes eventos. Embora reconheçam aspectos culturais para a resposta resiliente, há lacunas operacionais e de capacitação para que a gestão do plano de resposta e de recuperação seja efetiva em nível de comunidade.

Abstract The Foucault pendulum is a physical apparatus that shows the Earth’s rotation through the variation of the plane of oscillation over time. The main physical agent responsible for this phenomenon is the non-inertial Coriolis force, which couples the coordinates in the equation of motion. Although the Foucault pendulum is more than 170 years old, its theoretical description still lacks completeness, as there is no exact vector solution to the problem or even a decoupled equation of motion. Furthermore, the main prediction about the Foucault pendulum, the dependence of the pendulum’s plane of oscillation rotation on the latitude, needs to be revised as such dependence is more complex than is shown in the literature, once it depends essentially on the initial conditions. Here all these points raised are successfully answered.

ABSTRACT Objective: The occurrence of partial remission (honeymoon phase) in type 1 diabetes (T1D) has been associated with a reduced risk of chronic microvascular complications of diabetes. We have published case reports showing that a combination therapy with the DPP-4 inhibitor sitagliptin plus vitamin D3 (VIDPP-4i) can prolong the honeymoon phase in patients with new-onset T1D. In the present case-control study, we investigated the frequency of occurrence of clinical remission (CR) in patients with new-onset T1D after VIDPP-4i treatment. Subjects and methods: In this case-control study, we collected data spanning 10 years from medical records of 46 patients (23 females) recently diagnosed with T1D. Overall, 27 participants with CR (insulin dose-adjusted glycated hemoglobin [IDAA1c] ≤ 9) at 12 or 24 months composed the case group, and 19 participants without CR served as the control group. Chi-square with Yates correction was used to analyze the association between VIDPP-4i use and CR, and odds ratio (OR) was used to determine the chance of CR due to VIDPP-4i treatment exposure. Results: In all, 37 patients (80.4%) experienced CR at some time over 24 months. The mean CR duration was 13.15 ± 9.91 months. Treatment with VIDPP-4i was significantly associated with CR. At 24 months, the OR of CR after VIDPP-4i exposure was 9.0 (95% confidence interval [CI] 2.21-30.18, p = 0.0036). Additionally, 9 (33.6%) and 4 (14.8%) patients in the VIDPP-4i group experienced insulin-free CR at 12 and 24 months, respectively. Conclusion: Therapy with VIDPP-4i was associated with a higher frequency and duration of the honeymoon phase. Randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract Dunbar syndrome is diagnosed by excluding other possible causes of abdominal pains. Surgical treatment comprises complete dissection of the ligament and the surrounding nerve ganglion. This report describes the case of a previously healthy 45-year-old male patient who presented with epigastric abdominal pain irradiating to the back and weakness. Initially, abdominal computed tomography was ordered, showing arteriopathy of the celiac trunk and mesenteric artery with stenosis. The patient underwent surgical treatment because of the refractory pain, but findings were nonspecific. It was necessary to continue workup with serial angiotomography to follow the case. After around 6 months, thickening of the arcuate ligament was found, with compression of the proximal third of the celiac trunk and 80% stenosis. The patient therefore underwent laparoscopy to relieve celiac trunk compression, with satisfactory postoperative recovery.

Resumo A síndrome de Dunbar constitui um diagnóstico de exclusão dentro dos quadros de dor abdominal. O tratamento cirúrgico consiste na dissecção completa do ligamento e do gânglio nervoso circundante. Dessa forma, o presente caso refere-se a um paciente do sexo masculino, 45 anos, previamente hígido, com queixa de dor abdominal epigástrica com irradiação para o dorso e fraqueza. Inicialmente, foi realizada tomografia computadorizada de abdome para complementação do quadro, que evidenciou arteriopatia do tronco celíaco e da artéria mesentérica em associação com estenose. Optou-se por tratamento cirúrgico devido à refratariedade da dor, mas os achados foram inespecíficos. Houve necessidade de complementação da propedêutica com angiotomografia seriada para acompanhamento do caso. Após cerca de 6 meses, notou-se espessamento do ligamento arqueado, com compressão do terço proximal do tronco celíaco e estenose de 80%. Em meio a esse cenário, o paciente foi submetido a laparoscopia para descompressão do tronco celíaco, evoluindo satisfatoriamente no pós-operatório.

Abstract Introduction Improvements in the social functioning (SF) of people experiencing substance use disorders (SUD) can occur even without use discontinuation. Occupational Therapy (OT) performs multifaceted work on it. Objective This study analyzes the SF of people experiencing SUD before and after treatment and the contributions of OT. Method A pre and post-study before and after starting treatment for SUD in a Psychosocial Care Centre - Alcohol and other Drugs (CAPS-AD) in Brasilia, Brazil - was conducted with 35 clients based on an SF questionnaire. A measure of the participant's SF improvement was defined as the difference between the SF before treatment (SFpre) with the SF after treatment (SFafter). The association between SF and sociodemographic variables/drug/previous treatment was verified by linear regression; all analyses considered a significance level <5%. Results Most of the 35 participants were male (83%), 30-49 years old (77%), attended elementary school (57%), unemployed (57%), single (46%), Black (40%), had been treated previously (60%) and had present alcohol use disorder (46%). Overall, people undergoing treatment significantly improved their SF. Multivariate analysis showed that Whites improved their SF more (mean of 18.8± 10.4) than Pardos/Blacks (10.8± 8.7; 14.1± 6.4), and the improvement in SF was lower for participants who were taking treatment for the first time (10.3± 5.7) compared with those who had previous treatment (17.2± 9.4). Conclusion Treatment in CAPS-AD improved the SF of people experiencing SUD, and the OT professional is a key agent in improving SF due to its performance and approach to clients in vulnerable contexts.

Resumo Introdução Melhorias no funcionamento social (FS) de pessoas com transtornos pelo uso de substâncias (TUS) podem ocorrer mesmo sem descontinuar o uso. A terapia ocupacional realiza um trabalho multifacetado sobre isso. Objetivo Este estudo analisa o funcionamento social das pessoas com transtornos pelo uso de substâncias antes e depois do tratamento e contribuições da terapia ocupacional. Método Um pré e pós-estudo - antes e depois do tratamento para TUS em um Centro de Atenção Psicossocial álcool/drogas (CAPS-AD) em Brasília, Brasil - foi realizado com 35 clientes com um questionário sobre FS. A melhora do FS foi definida como a diferença entre o valor do FS antes (FSpre) e depois do tratamento (FSafter). A associação entre o FS e as variáveis sociodemográficas/drogas/tratamento anterior foi verificada por regressão linear; foi considerado um nível de significância <5%. Resultados A maioria era homens (83%), 30-49 anos de idade (77%), com ensino fundamental (57%), desempregados (57%), solteiros (46%), negros (40%), com tratamento anterior (60%), e apresentavam TU de álcool (46%). Em geral, as pessoas submetidas a tratamento melhoraram significativamente seu FS. A análise multivariada mostrou que os brancos melhoraram mais seu FS (média de 18.8± 10.4) que os Pardos/Negros (10.8± 8.7; 14.1± 6.4), e foi menor entre os que estavam fazendo tratamento pela primeira vez (10.3± 5.7) em comparação com os que o fizeram anteriormente (17.2± 9.4). Conclusão O tratamento no CAPS-AD melhorou o FS das pessoas com TUS, o profissional terapeuta ocupacional é um agente chave para melhorar o FS devido a sua atuação e abordagem em contextos vulneráveis.

Throughout the undergraduate course in Physics, the student frequently encounters problems involving oscillations. The primary model used to investigate oscillatory phenomena is the simple harmonic oscillator. As students advance in their academic education, they also learn various methods for solving differential equations. It is standard to employ such novel techniques in problems whose solution is previously known, to test the method’s quality and for didactic purposes. Placing these two lines together, I present twelve different ways to solve the well-known simple harmonic oscillator problem. They fall into three categories: basic, intermediate, and advanced. This division is based on the level of knowledge necessary to solve the problem, progressively acquired throughout the student’s academic education. Therefore, this material serves as a reference for students at distinct stages of their education.

Ao longo do curso de graduação em Física, o(a) estudante frequentemente se depara com problemas envolvendo oscilações. O principal modelo usado para investigar fenômenos oscilatórios é o oscilador harmônico simples. À medida que os(as) estudantes avançam em sua formação acadêmica, eles(as) também aprendem vários métodos para resolver equações diferenciais. É padrão empregar essas novas técnicas em problemas cuja solução é previamente conhecida, para testar a qualidade do método e para fins didáticos. Juntando essas duas linhas, apresento doze maneiras diferentes de resolver o conhecido problema do oscilador harmônico simples. Elas se enquadram em três categorias: básicas, intermediárias e avançadas. Essa divisão é baseada no nível de conhecimento necessário para resolver o problema, progressivamente adquirido ao longo da formação acadêmica do(a) aluno(a). Portanto, este material serve de referência para estudantes em diferentes etapas de sua formação.

Abstract Objective To analyze the effect of combined training (CT) in postural control and gait parameters in postmenopausal women. Methods A parallel-group, randomized, control study was conducted with 16 weeks of combined training (n = 16) versus a non-training control group (n = 12) in postmenopausal women (aged 59.3 ± 8.0). Pre and postintervention assessments included postural control (using an AMTI force platform – Advanced Mechanical Technology, Inc., Watertown, MA, USA) and gait impairments (using baropodometry). In addition, the upper limb strength and abdominal tests, as well as aerobic capacity, assessed functional indicators. Results The CT intervention in postmenopausal women resulted in improved gait (stride length (p = 0.006); speed (p = 0.013); double support time (p = 0.045); and improved postural control (displacement area of postural sway in a normal base of support with eyes open (p = 0.006). Combined training increased functional indicators (abdominal - p = 0.031; aerobic capacity - p = 0.002). Conclusion In conclusion, combined aerobic plus strength training effectively improved gait and balance control in older women. The postmenopausal women from the CT group walked faster and with bigger steps after the intervention than the control group. In addition, they presented decreased postural sway in standing and decreased the percentage of double support time while walking, which means improved static and dynamic balance control and functional indicators.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar o efeito do treinamento combinado (TC) no controle postural e nos parâmetros da marcha em mulheres na pós-menopausa. Métodos Foi realizado um estudo controlado randomizado de grupos paralelos com 16 semanas de treinamento combinado (n = 16) versus um grupo controle sem treinamento (n = 12) em mulheres na pós-menopausa (59,3 ± 8,0 anos). As avaliações pré e pós-intervenção incluíram controle postural (usando a plataforma de força AMTI) e deficiências da marcha (usando baropodometria). Além disso, os testes de força de membros superiors e abdominal, bem como a capacidade aeróbica, avaliaram indicadores funcionais. Resultados A intervenção do TC em mulheres na pós-menopausa resultou em melhora da marcha (comprimento da passada (p = 0,006), velocidade (p = 0,013), tempo de apoio duplo (p = 0,045) e controle postural aprimorado (área de deslocamento da oscilação postural em base de apoio normal com olhos abertos (p = 0,006). O TC aumentou os indicadores funcionais (abdominal - p = 0,031; capacidade aeróbia - p = 0,002). Conclusão Em conclusão, o TC de força e aeróbico melhorou efetivamente o controle da marcha e do equilíbrio em mulheres idosas. As mulheres na pós-menopausa do grupo CT caminharam mais rápido e com passos maiores após a intervenção do que o grupo controle. Além disso, elas apresentaram redução da oscilação postural em pé e do percentual de tempo de apoio duplo durante a caminhada, o que significa melhora no controle do equilíbrio estático e dinâmico e dos indicadores funcionais.

ABSTRACT The fungus that causes Asian soybean rust, Phakopsora pachyrhizi, shows crossed and multiple resistance to the three chemical groups of site-specific fungicides (triazoles, strobilurins and carboxamides). This fact evidences the need to implement strategies for the preventive management of resistance. An alternative can be the use of microorganisms capable of interfering in the development of pathogens, as well as of acting as resistance inducers in the plants. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of a biological product based on Bacillus subtilis BV02, alone or in association with a copper-based product, on Asian soybean rust control, as well as the agronomic performance of soybean. Thus, two experiments were developed, one in the field and another one in the laboratory. For the experiment conducted in the field, a randomized block design was used with (5x2)+1 factorial arrangement of treatments, including four replicates. The first factor corresponded to application, during post-emergence of soybeans, of five B. subtilis BV02 doses (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 or 4.0 L c.p. ha-1). The second factor corresponded to association or not with a copper-based product. The additional treatment consisted of applying the fungicide association [azoxystrobin + benzovindiflupyr] + mancozeb. In the laboratory experiment, germination of Phakopsora pachyrhizi uredospores in Elisa plates was evaluated in a completely randomized design with eight replicates. Treatments were the same as those adopted in the field experiment, except for the chemical fungicide, since mancozeb was not added to the sprayed broth. Increasing doses of B. subtilis BV02, applied alone, provided reductions in Asian soybean rust severity, and this behavior was not observed when it was applied in association with the copper-based product. Considering the association between B. subtilis BV02 and the copper-based product, the best Asian rust control results were found with doses equal or inferior to 1.0 L c.p. ha-1. Soybean yield was superior to that of the treatment containing fungicides with the use of B. subtilis BV02 alone (1.0 and 2.0 L c.p. ha-1), with application of only a copper-based product and with the combination of this micronutrient with B. subtilis BV02 (2.0 L c.p. ha-1).

RESUMO O fungo causador da ferrugem asiática na soja, Phakopsora pachyrhizi, apresenta resistência cruzada e múltipla aos três grupos químicos (triazóis, estrobilurinas e carboxamidas) de fungicidas sítio-específicos. Este fato torna evidente a necessidade da implementação de estratégias para o manejo de prevenção da resistência. Uma alternativa pode ser a utilização de microrganismos com capacidade de interferir no desenvolvimento de patógenos, bem como atuarem como indutores da resistência das plantas. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a eficácia de produto biológico à base de Bacillus subtilis BV02 isolado ou associado à produto à base de cobre no controle de ferrugem asiática, bem como desempenho agronômico da soja. Para tanto, foram instalados dois experimentos, sendo um no campo e outro em laboratório. Para o experimento conduzido em campo, o delineamento utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso, estando os tratamentos dispostos em arranjo fatorial (5x2)+1, com quatro repetições. O primeiro fator correspondeu a aplicação, em pós-emergência da soja, de cinco doses de B. subtilis BV02 (0, 0,5, 1,0, 2,0 ou 4,0 L p.c. ha-1). O segundo fator correspondeu a associação ou não com produto à base de cobre. O tratamento adicional consistiu na aplicação da associação entre os fungicidas [azoxystrobina + benzovindiflupir] + mancozebe. No experimento em laboratório foi avaliada a germinação dos uredósporos de P. pachyrhizi em placas Elisa, no delineamento inteiramente casualizado com oito repetições. Foram utilizados os mesmos tratamentos do experimento do campo, diferenciando-se apenas o fungicida químico, o qual não foi adicionado mancozebe a calda aplicada. O aumento de dose de B. subtilis BV02, aplicado isoladamente, proporcionou reduções na severidade de ferrugem, não sendo visualizado este comportamento quando associado ao produto à base de cobre. Para a associação entre B. subtilis BV02 e produto à base de cobre, os melhores resultados para o controle de ferrugem asiática foram visualizados em doses iguais ou inferiores a 1,0 L p.c. ha-1. A produtividade da soja foi superior ao tratamento contendo fungicidas com a utilização de B. subtilis BV02 isolado (1,0 e 2,0 L p.c. ha-1), com aplicação apenas de produto à base de cobre e com utilização deste micronutriente em associação ao B. subtilis BV02 (2,0 L p.c. ha-1).

ABSTRACT There is a need for greater knowledge about the medium- and long-term effects of prescribed fire management on soil in ecosystems prone to wildfires and more vulnerable to climate change. This study examined the short- and medium-term effects of prescribed fire on soil chemical properties and chemical fractions of soil organic matter (SOM) in two positions of the landscape in a high-elevation grassland environment. The ecosystem is located in the mountain peaks of southeastern Brazil associated with the Atlantic Forest biome. Prescribed fire was conducted in 2017 to reduce understory vegetation and thus prevent potential severe wildfires. Soil samples were collected at the layers of 0.00-0.10, 0.10-0.20, and 0.20-0.40 m, at eight composite sampling. The composite samples were collected on five different occasions: before the prescribed fire, and 10, 30, 90, and 240 days after the prescribed fire. Soil chemical properties, total organic carbon, labile C, and chemical fractionation of SOM were analyzed. All soil properties investigated were affected by the prescribed fire, with variations in landscape position, duration of effect, and soil layer. In the backslope area, the medium-term effect of fire was negative and induced soil degradation and induced soil degradation. In the footslope area, the system showed greater resilience to the effects of fire, as indicated by the recovery of the soil’s chemical properties. These results can help assess the suitability of controlled burning of vegetation for managing risks of fire in mountainous regions, such as high-elevation grasslands.

Abstract The aimed of this work was to evaluate the early growth of clones RRIM 600 and PR 255 regarding of Hevea brasiliensis, relationed to increasing doses of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. For each clone, a randomized block design experiment was installed. The amount of nitrogen (40, 80 and 160 g plant-¹ of N), phosphorus (50, 100 and 200 g plant-¹ of P2O5) and potassium (40, 80 and 160 g plant-¹ of K2O) were a factorial combined form and were distributed in three blocks, add up to 28 treatments, included the control (00-00-00). The seedlings were transplanted into 18 L pots, filled with a horizon A into a Haplic flat ground with a sandy texture. The fertilizers were weighed, mixed, diluted into the irrigation water and applied in a circular groove created around the plants. The variables analyzed were relative average height (Hr), relative average diameter of the neck (DCr) and total dry matter of the plants (MST). Both clones responded regarding the early growth from the analyzed variables. However, the RRIM 600 clone was more responsive and request regarded with fertility, notably in relation to the application of phosphorus. In the other hand, for both clones, they werei ncreased the quantity of nutrients and, a negative effect was observed for the values of the variables, especially when combined with the highest doses of N, P and K (treatment 160-200-160). The amount of nutrients presented in the 40-100-40 treatment were the most indicated as planting fertilizer for both the RRIM 600 clone and for the PR 255.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento inicial dos clones RRIM 600 e PR 255 de Hevea brasiliensis, em relação a doses crescentes de nitrogênio, fósforo e potássio. Para cada clone, foi instalado um experimento em delineamento em blocos casualizados. As doses de nitrogênio (40, 80 e 160 g planta-1 de N), fósforo (50, 100 e 200 g planta-1 de P2O5) e potássio (40, 80 e 160 g planta-1 de K2O) foram combinadas de forma fatorial e distribuídas em três blocos, totalizando 28 tratamentos, incluindo controle (00-00-00). As mudas foram transplantadas em vasos de 18 litros, preenchidos com horizonte A de um Planossolo Háplico de textura arenosa. Os fertilizantes foram pesados, misturados, diluídos na água de irrigação e aplicados em um sulco circular feito ao redor das plantas. As variáveis analisadas foram altura média relativa (Hr), diâmetro médio relativo do colo (DCr) e matéria seca total das plantas (MST). Ambos os clones responderam quanto ao crescimento inicial das variáveis analisadas. Porém, o clone RRIM 600 foi mais responsivo e exigente quanto à fertilidade, principalmente em relação à aplicação de fósforo. Em contrapartida, para ambos os clones, aumentando-se a quantidade de nutrientes, observou-se um efeito negativo nos valores das variáveis, principalmente quando combinadas as maiores doses de N, P e K (tratamento 160-200-160). A quantidade de nutrientes presentes no tratamento 40-100-40 foi a mais indicada como adubação de plantio tanto para o clone RRIM 600, quanto para o PR 255.

Resumo Fundamento Não está claro se o exercício é seguro em pacientes com formas mais avançadas de doença arterial coronariana, como aqueles com angina refratária (AR). Objetivo Visamos determinar o efeito de uma sessão de exercício aeróbico agudo (SEAA) nos níveis de troponina T cardíaca de alta sensibilidade (TnT-as) em pacientes com AR. Métodos Trata-se de um estudo clínico longitudinal, não randomizado e não controlado. Os participantes foram recrutados de abril de 2015 a janeiro de 2019. Em uma escala visual de dor de 0 a 10, a dor classificada até 3 foi considerada como o nível máximo permitido para continuar o exercício. Avaliamos TnT-as na linha de base e 3 horas após a SEAA. O protocolo consistiu em 5 minutos de aquecimento, 30 minutos de exercício aeróbico contínuo na frequência cardíaca correspondente ao limiar anaeróbio ou limiar de angina obtido no teste de esforço cardiopulmonar e 5 minutos de resfriamento. Foram considerados estatisticamente significativos valores de p menores que 0,05. Resultados Foram incluídos 32 pacientes com AR (61 ± 9 anos, 59,4% do sexo masculino). A concentração basal de TnT-as foi de 10,9 ng/L (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 9,1 a 13,0 ng/L). A TnT-as coletada 3 horas após a SEAA foi de 11,1 ng/L (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 9,1 a 13,5 ng/L). Nenhuma diferença ocorreu na TnT-as antes e após a SEAA (p = 0,657). Conclusões Uma única SEAA realizada no limiar de angina com correspondente escala visual de dor não alterou a TnT-as em pacientes com AR, sugerindo que nenhuma lesão miocárdica significativa foi provocada pelo exercício e que este protocolo de exercício pode ser considerado seguro.

Abstract Background It is unclear whether exercise is safe in patients with more advanced forms of coronary artery disease, such as those with refractory angina (RA). Objective We aimed to determine the effect of an acute aerobic exercise session (AAES) on high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) levels in patients with RA. Methods This was a longitudinal, non-randomized, and non-controlled clinical study. Participants were recruited from April 2015 to January 2019. On a visual pain scale from 0 to 10, pain rated up to 3 was considered as the top level allowed to continue exercising. We assessed hs-cTnT at baseline and 3 hours after the AAES. The protocol consisted of 5 minutes of warm-up, 30 minutes of continuous aerobic exercise at heart rate corresponding to the anaerobic threshold or angina threshold obtained in the cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and 5 minutes of cooling down. P values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results Thirty-two patients with RA were included (61 ± 9 years, 59.4% male). The baseline hs-cTnT concentration was 10.9 ng/L (95% confidence interval: 9.1 to 13.0 ng/L). The hs-cTnT collected 3 hours after the AAES was 11.1 ng/L (95% confidence interval: 9.1 to 13.5 ng/L). No difference occurred in hs-cTnT before and after AAES (p = 0.657). Conclusions A single AAES performed at the angina threshold with corresponding visual pain scale did not alter hs-cTnT in patients with RA, suggesting that no significant myocardial injury was elicited by exercising and that this exercise protocol can be considered safe.
