RESUMO Introdução: A amputação de membros inferiores afeta em sua maioria adultos jovens economicamente ativos, o que ocasiona grande impacto socioeconômico devido ao comprometimento da capacidade laboral, socialização e qualidade de vida. Desta forma, as utilizações de dispositivos ortostáticos possibilitariam a reinserção do indivíduo no ambiente de trabalho. Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito imediato da utilização de um dispositivo de elevação postural nos parâmetros fisiológicos e nos níveis da pressão plantar de amputados praticantes de atividade física. Métodos: Foram coletados os dados sociodemográficos e a percepção da qualidade do sono de 14 adultos de ambos os sexos com amputações de membro inferior que praticam atividade física. Os participantes foram colocados em um equipamento de elevação postural durante 90 minutos com monitorização dos parâmetros fisiológicos como pressão arterial, frequência cardíaca, saturação e sistema nervoso autônomo, além dos níveis da pressão plantar. Os dados também foram coletados durante a recuperação (15 e 30 minutos depois do uso do dispositivo). A análise dos dados foi realizada pela ANOVA two-way ou modelo de efeitos mistos com teste de comparações múltiplas de Sidak, p < 0,05. Resultados: Para todos os parâmetros cardiovasculares (p > 0,05) analisados, nível de ativação sistema nervoso autônomo (p > 0,05) e pressão plantar (p > 0,05) não foram observadas diferenças ao longo do uso do dispositivo ortostático em todos os períodos avaliados. Conclusão: A utilização do equipamento de elevação postural por 90 minutos não gera como efeito imediato, alterações nos parâmetros fisiológicos e no controle postural de amputados praticantes de atividade física. ABSTRACT Introduction: Lower limb amputation affects mainly economically active young adults, causing great socio-economic impact due to impaired work capacity, socialization, and quality of life. Thus, the use of orthostatic devices could make reintegration of the individual back into the work environment possible. Objective: To evaluate the immediate effect of using a postural elevation device on physiological parameters and plantar pressure levels in amputees who practice physical activity. Methods: Sociodemographic and perceived sleep quality data were collected from 14 adults of both sexes with lower limb amputations, who practice physical activity. The participants were placed in postural elevation equipment for a period of 90 minutes with monitoring of physiological parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation. Parameters related to the autonomic nervous system and plantar pressure levels were also evaluated. Data were also collected during recovery at 15- and 30-minute intervals after using the device. Data analysis was performed using two-way ANOVA or a mixed-effects model with Sidak's multiple comparisons test. Results: For all cardiovascular parameters (p>0.05) analyzed, the activation level of the autonomic nervous system (p>0.05), and plantar pressure (p>0.05), no evidence of differences was observed during use of the orthostatic device in all evaluated periods. Conclusion: The use of postural elevation equipment for 90 minutes does not generate, as an immediate effect, changes in physiological parameters and postural control in amputees who practice physical activity. Así, el uso de dispositivos ortostáticos permitiría la reinserción del individuo en el entorno laboral. Objetivo: Evaluar el efecto inmediato del uso de un dispositivo de elevación postural en los parámetros fisiológicos y en los niveles de presión plantar de amputados que practican actividad física. Métodos: Se recogieron datos sociodemográficos y la percepción de la calidad del sueño de 14 adultos de ambos sexos con amputaciones de miembros inferiores, practicantes de actividad física. Los participantes fueron colocados en equipos de elevación postural durante 90 minutos con monitoreo de parámetros fisiológicos como presión arterial, frecuencia cardíaca, saturación y sistema nervioso autónomo, además de los niveles de presión plantar. También se recopilaron datos durante la recuperación a intervalos de 15 y 30 minutos después de usar el dispositivo. El análisis de datos se realizó mediante ANOVA two-way o un modelo de efectos mixtos con la prueba de comparaciones múltiples de Sidak, p < 0,05. Abstract Many of the drugs used to fight cancer cells induce various damage causing hepatotoxic effects which are characterized by tissue changes. The aim of the study is to know the possible effects of salazinic acid on livers of mice exposed to Sacoma-180. The tumor was grown in the animals in ascitic form and inoculated subcutaneously in the axillary region of the mouse developing the solid tumor. Treatment with salazinic acid (25 and 50 mg/kg) and 5-Fluorouracil (20 mg/kg) started 24-hours after inoculation and was performed for 7 days. To verify these effects, the qualitative method of histological criteria investigated in liver tissue was used. It was observed that all treated groups showed an increase of pyknotic nuclei in relation to the negative control. There was an increase in steatosis in all groups compared to the negative control but there was a decrease in the groups treated with salazinic acid in the 5-Fluorouracil. There was no necrosis in the salazinic acid treated groups. However, this effect was seen in 20% of the positive control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that salazinic acid did not show hepatoprotective action on mice but demonstrated a decrease in steatosis and absence of tissue necrosis.

Abstract Objective To characterize activated charcoal and 2% hydrogen peroxide-based toothpastes and investigate their effects on roughness, color change, and gloss of bulk-fill composite resin. Methodology Composite resin specimens (Aura Bulk Fill, SDI) were subjected to 5,000 brushing cycles with regular toothpaste (Colgate Total 12, [RT]), activated charcoal toothpaste (Bianco Dental Carbon, [AC]), or hydrogen peroxide-containing toothpaste (Colgate Luminous White Advanced, [HP]), with or without coffee exposure. The pH, particle characterization by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and weight% of solid particles in the toothpaste were assessed. Roughness (Ra) was evaluated using a surface profile-measuring device, color change (∆Eab/∆E00) by reflectance spectrophotometer, and gloss unit (GU) by glossmeter. Kruskal–Wallis, Dunn, Friedman, and Nemenyi tests were used, and the correlation coefficient test was performed between Ra and GU (α=0.05). Results RT presented a higher Ra after brushing and did not change after staining with coffee; moreover, the ∆Eab/∆E00 values were higher for RT than HP. Regarding gloss, AC and HP obtained higher values compared to RT. A significant negative correlation between gloss and Ra was found for RT exposed to coffee. All toothpastes had a neutral pH; however, RT had the largest percentage of solids by weight. SEM images showed particles of many sizes: irregular shape (RT), more regular particles (AC), and spherical clusters (HP). Although surface roughness, color change, and gloss may compromise the longevity of restorations, the whitening toothpastes tested did not promote more morphology changes than regular toothpastes.

Abstract The aim of the present study was to perform in vitro and in vivo assessments of the antineoplastic action of 4-amino-pyrimidine encapsulated in liposomes. Liposomes were prepared and characterized for particle size and drug encapsulation and submitted to long-term stability tests. Cytotoxicity assays were performed in HeLa cells. Antineoplastic activity was investigated using the experimental sarcoma 180 tumor in Swiss albino mice. Encapsulation efficiency was 82.93 ± 0.04% and no significant changes were found with respect to particle size or pH after centrifugation and mechanical agitation tests. The in vitro results at concentration of 20 μg/mL indicated a considerable reduction in cell viability after treatment with encapsulated pyrimidine (75.91%). The in vivo assays using the compounds in encapsulated and free forms and 5-fluorouracil achieved tumor inhibition rates of 66.47 ± 26.8%, 50.46 ± 16.24% and 14.47 ± 9.22%, respectively. Mitotic counts demonstrated a greater reduction in the number of mitoses in animals treated with liposomal pyrimidine (32.15%) compared to those treated with the pyrimidine free (87.69%) and 5-fluorouracil (71.39%). This study demonstrated that the development of liposome formulations containing 4-amino-pyrimidine is a promising alternative for overcoming limitations related to the toxicity of current cancer treatment, ensuring greater therapeutic efficacy.

ABSTRACT Purpose to verify the relationship between the risk of falling, the level of confidence in activities involving balance, and age with the values of gain and symmetry of the semicircular canals (SSCs), using the Head Video Impulse Test (vHIT) in patients with peripheral vestibular dysfunction. Methods Cross-sectional study in 12 individuals submitted to functional evaluation using the Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC Scale) and the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI), and vestibular evaluation with vHIT. The results were compared using Spearman's Correlation Coefficient. Results There was a predominance of females (75%), with a mean age of 59 years and 8 months. The mean score in DGI was 19.70 points and on the ABC Scale, 43.65%, which is characteristic of a low confidence level. A moderate correlation was observed between age and DGI and between DGI and ABC Scale and SCC gain and symmetry values with vHIT. Conclusion A relationship was observed between a higher risk of falling in patients with vestibular hypofunction and advanced age and between a low level of confidence to perform daily activities due to asymmetrical SCC gain.

RESUMO Objetivo verificar a relação entre o risco de queda, o nível de confiança nas atividades que envolvem equilíbrio e a idade com os valores de ganho e simetria dos canais semicirculares (CSCs), por meio do Vídeo Teste do Impulso Cefálico (vHIT), em pacientes com disfunção vestibular periférica. Método estudo transversal, composto por 12 indivíduos submetidos à avaliação funcional por meio da Activities-specific Balance Confidance Scale (ABC Scale) e do Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) e avaliação vestibular com o vHIT. Os resultados foram comparados por meio do Coeficiente de Correlação de Spearman. Resultados observou-se predomínio do gênero feminino (75%), com média de idade de 59 anos e 8 meses. A média de escore no DGI foi de 19,70 pontos e 43,65% na ABC Scale, característico de baixo nível de confiança. Observou-se correlação de grau moderado entre os parâmetros idade com o DGI, DGI e ABC Scale com os valores de ganho e simetria dos CSCs do vHIT. Conclusão Observaram-se relações entre o maior risco de queda em pacientes com hipofunção vestibular e idade avançada e entre o baixo nível de confiança para realizar atividades diárias diante da assimetria de ganho dos CSCs.

RESUMO Contexto: A litíase biliar pode ser definida como a presença de cálculo ou barro biliar na vesícula e/ou nos ductos biliares. A doença pode ser assintomática ou sintomática, podendo levar a complicações e, consequentemente, a um pior prognóstico, como colecistite aguda, coledocolitíase, colangite e pancreatite aguda. O risco de complicações aumenta após o primeiro episódio de cólica biliar. Objetivo: Avaliação clínica-epidemiológica dos pacientes internados em enfermaria de gastroenterologia de um hospital terciário, com complicações relacionadas à litíase biliar. Métodos: Foram avaliados 158 pacientes internados no período de 1º de janeiro de 2013 a 24 de fevereiro de 2021, por meio de análise de relatório de alta e prontuário. Resultados: Houve uma predominância do sexo feminino (76,6%), e a média de idade dos pacientes foi de 51,6 anos. Homens eram significativamente mais velhos que as mulheres (P=0,005). A maioria (57,6%) apresentava alguma comorbidade, sendo as mais frequentes: hipertensão arterial sistêmica, diabetes mellitus e obesidade. A média de tempo de internação foi de 24 dias, sendo significativamente maior para os homens (P=0,046), mas sem relação direta com a idade (P=0,414). A complicação mais frequente foi a coledocolitíase, e 55,7% dos pacientes sem colecistectomia prévia apresentaram relato de cólica biliar antes da internação, em média, 1,5 anos antes. Histórico de colecistectomia prévia estava presente em 17,1% dos avaliados. Ultrassonografia abdominal, seguida de colangiorressonância magnética foram os exames complementares mais frequentemente realizados para definição diagnóstica. Em relação às medidas terapêuticas, a colangiopancreatografia endoscópica retrógrada (CPRE) foi necessária em 47,3% dos pacientes sem colecistectomia prévia e 81,4% dos pacientes com colecistectomia prévia. Dos pacientes ainda não colecistectomizados, 84% deles puderam ser submetidos ao procedimento antes da alta. Conclusão: Houve predomínio do sexo feminino. Os homens foram significativamente mais velhos do que as mulheres e tiveram uma permanência hospitalar consideravelmente mais longa. A complicação mais frequente foi a coledocolitíase, e cerca de metade dos pacientes relatou cólica biliar prévia. A CPRE foi necessária para a maioria dos pacientes.

ABSTRACT Background: Gallstones are the presence of bile clay in the gallbladder or bile ducts. The disease can be asymptomatic or symptomatic and can lead to complications and consequently a worse prognosis, such as acute cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis, cholangitis, and acute pancreatitis. The risk of complications increases after the first episode of biliary colic. Objective: A clinical-epidemiological evaluation of patients admitted to a gastroenterology ward of a tertiary care hospital with gallstone-related complications. Methods: We evaluated 158 patients admitted through discharge reports and medical records analysis from January 1, 2013, to February 24, 2021. Results: The female sex was predominant (76.6%), and the mean age of patients was 51.6 years. Men were significantly older than women (P=0.005). Most (57.6%) had some comorbidity, the most frequent being systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and obesity. The mean hospitalization time was 24 days, significantly longer in men (P=0.046) but without a direct relationship with age (P=0.414). The most frequent complication was choledocholithiasis, and 55.7% of patients without previous cholecystectomy had a report of biliary colic before admission, on average 1.5 years previously. A history of a prior cholecystectomy was present in 17.1% of those evaluated. Abdominal ultrasonography followed by magnetic resonance cholangiography was the most frequently performed exam for diagnostic definition. Regarding therapeutic measures, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was necessary for 47.3% of patients without previous cholecystectomy and 81.4% of patients who have already had a cholecystectomy. Among patients not yet cholecystectomized, 84% underwent the procedure before discharge. Conclusion: The female patients were predominant. Men were significantly older than women and had more extended hospital stays. The most frequent complication was choledocholithiasis, and around half of the patients reported previous biliary colic. endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography has been necessary for the majority of the patients.

ABSTRACT Air navigation is increasingly dependent on the use of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). It allows the determination of the aircraft’s position in all phases of the flight and brings many advantages. Although GNSS navigation results in gains, the radio signals from these systems are strongly influenced by the ionospheric environment. It introduces errors that can affect the accuracy, integrity, availability and continuity requirements established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The ionospheric layer has different behaviors depending on the latitude, time of day, season of the year, geomagnetic activity and solar cycle. Since Brazil is located in a region of low latitudes, it experiences a series of unique challenges when compared to regions of mid-latitudes. For this reason, the application of GNSS-based technologies in aviation over the Brazilian territory requires an in-depth assessment of the ionosphere effects. Therefore, the Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia (INCT) named GNSS Technology for Supporting Air Navigation was formed in 2017 to better assess the ionosphere impacts and assist government agencies and companies in the development of safe air navigation procedures over Brazil in a near future. This paper presents the most relevant advances achieved so far within this multidisciplinary project that involves Brazilian research centers and universities.

Abstract Founding new materials and structures for solar cells is a challenge in the photovoltaic field. This work evaluated the effect of the lignin in the photovoltaic activity by compounding with TiO2/lignin as photoanode for the dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC’s). Hybrid films (TiO2/lignin) with different concentrations of lignin (5, 10 and 15%) were deposited by spin coating over commercial TiO2 thin films. The cells were sandwich assembled. The characterizations were done through analysis of absorbance, band gap, x-ray diffraction, morphological and electrical. The lignin at 15% reduced the TiO2 band gap from 3.66 to 2.84 eV, favoring the short current density to 11.06 mA/cm2 and efficiency of 4.65%, an increase of 103.95% compared to the TiO2 structure without lignin.

Resumo Introdução A disfunção temporomandibular (DTM) é uma desordem que envolve os músculos da mastigação e da articulação temporomandibular. Pacientes desdentados totais e que utilizam protéses requerem uma avaliação criteriosa, já que o edentulismo leva a prejuízos que podem contribuir para o aparecimento de DTM. Objetivo O objetivo deste presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito da qualidade técnica das próteses totais (PTs) na incidência de DTM em pacientes portadores de PTs bi-maxilares. Material e método Foi aplicado um questionário a 154 pacientes contendo os dados pessoais, o histórico das próteses, o índice anamnésico para DTM e o índice de qualidade de prótese. Resultado Dos 154 pacientes examinados, 64 (41,6%) estavam livres de DTM, 61 (39,6%) possuíam DTM leve, 23 (14,9%), moderada e apenas 6 (3,9%) mostravam DTM severa. Quanto à qualidade da prótese total, 78 (50,6%) desdentados totais portavam PTs satisfatórias e 76 (49,4) estavam com próteses insatisfatórias. Quanto ao tempo de uso da prótese total, cerca de 50% dos indivíduos com até 10 anos de uso apresentaram algum grau de DTM e 70% dos indivíduos com mais de 10 anos acusaram a presença de DTM. Conclusão Considerando-se a metodologia empregada e a população estudada, pôde-se concluir que a qualidade das PTs não influenciou na presença de DTM.

Abstract Introduction Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) involves the mastication and temporomandibular articulation muscles. Completely toothless patients with prostheses should be thoroughly assessed since edentulism causes damage that can lead to TMD onset. Objective This study aims to assess the effect of the technical quality of total prostheses (TPs) on TMD occurrence in patients with bimaxillary TPs. Material and method 154 patients responded to a questionnaire to obtain personal data, information regarding prostheses, anamnestic index for TMD, and the prosthesis quality index. Result Of the 154 patients examined, 64 (41.6%) had no TMD, 61 (39.6%) had mild TMD, 23 (14.9%) moderate, and only 6 (3.9%) showed severe TMD. As for the quality of total prosthesis, 78 (50.6%) completely toothless individuals had satisfactory TPs while 76 (49.4) presented unsatisfactory prostheses. Regarding the time using total prosthesis, around 50% of individuals with up to 10 years use presented some degree of TMD and 70% of individuals with over 10 years presented TMD. Conclusion Considering the methodology used and the population studied, we conclude that the quality of the TPs did not influence the incidence of TMD.

RESUMO Esse estudo objetivou avaliar sazonalmente a histomorfometria do epidídimo de Dermanura cinerea (Gervais, 1856) em um fragmento de Mata Atlântica no nordeste do Brasil. Foram utilizados 18 espécimes machos adultos capturados por redes de neblina. As coletas ocorreram mensalmente ao longo de dezoito meses, durante duas noites consecutivas e os dados meteorológicos foram fornecidos pelo Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia. Depois de eutanasiados, os espécimes tiveram os epidídimos coletados e esses órgãos foram fixados e processados. As lâminas histológicas foram coradas por Hematoxilina - Eosina e analisadas em microscopia óptica. Os parâmetros morfométricos analisados foram as áreas do túbulo, do lúmen e do epitélio das regiões do segmento inicial, cabeça, corpo e cauda do epidídimo. Os dados histomorfométricos obtidos foram submetidos às análises no teste U de Mann-Whitney. Os resultados revelaram que D. cinerea apresentou espermatozoides em todas as regiões do epidídimo, exceto no segmento inicial. As maiores médias das áreas tubular, do lúmen e do epitélio nas quatro regiões, foram constatadas durante os meses secos. Portanto, D cinerea apresentou maior sensibilidade na região da cauda do epidídimo, ao longo dos meses com baixos índices pluviométricos. Isso indica que as condições ambientais apresentam considerável influência sobre a morfofisiologia epidídimária dessa espécie, sobretudo, em relação ao armazenamento de espermatozoides na cauda desse órgão, em área de Mata atlântica do nordeste brasileiro.

ABSTRACT Description and seasonal variation in epididymal histomorphometry of Dermanuracinerea (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae) in a fragment of the Atlantic Forest in the Northeastern Brazil. This study aimed to evaluate seasonal patterns in the histomorphometry of the epididymis of Dermanura cinerea (Gervais, 1856) in a fragment of the Atlantic Forest in the Northeastern Brazil. Eighteen adult male specimens captured by mist net were used. The field-work occurred monthly over 18 months, during two consecutive nights. Meteorological data (precipitation) were obtained from the National Institute of Meteorology. After euthanasia, specimens had the epididymis collected, which were fixed and processed. The histological slides produced were stained by Hematoxylin - Eosin and analyzed by optical microscopy. The morphometric parameters analyzed were the tubular, lumen and epithelium areas, of the regions of the initial segment, caput, corpus and cauda of the epididymis. The histomorphometric data were submitted to the Mann-Whitney U test analyzes. The results showed that D. cinerea presented spermatozoa in all regions of the epididymis, except in the initial segment. The highest averages of the tubular, lumen and epithelial areas in the four regions were observed during the dry months. Therefore, D cinerea presented greater sensibility in the region of the cauda of the epididymis, during the months with low rainfall indices. This indicates that environmental conditions have considerable influence on the epididymal morphophysiology of this species, especially in relation to the storage of sperm in the tail of this organ, in area of Atlantic forest in northeastern Brazil.

RESUMO Filmes de estanho/óxido de zinco foram depositados em óxido condutor transparente por banho químico, a porcentagens de 5, 10 e 15% de estanho (Sn) na estrutura de óxido de zinco (ZnO). Todos os filmes foram tratados termicamente para melhorar sua cristanilidade. Os filmes produzidos foram caracterizados por difração de raios x e medidas ópticas, como absorbância, transmitância e reflectância. O espectro de raios x mostrou a formação de ZnO na forma de wurtzite e os tamanhos dos cristalitos foram de 53,74; 79,59 e 66,38 nm para os fotoanodos a 5, 10 e 15% de estanho (Sn), respectivamente, na estrutura do óxido de zinco. Os valores calculados para a energia de banda proibida dos filmes revelaram que a presença de estanho pode reduzir o valor da energia até aproximadamente 3,2 eV. Esses filmes foram usados como fotoanodos em células solares sensibilizadas por corante (CSSC) para observar os efeitos do estanho (Sn) na atividade fotovoltaica do semicondutor de óxido de zinco (ZnO). Parâmetros como eficiência e densidade de corrente de curto- circuito foram particularmente afetados pela presença de estanho na composição, com o filme de ZnO a 5% de Sn apresentando os melhores resultados de 7,56% de eficiência e 34,35 mA/cm2 de densidade de corrente de curto-circuito, os demais filmes apresentaram menores valores para a eficiência, o que pode ser atribuído aos menores valores alcançados para a corrente de curto circuito.

ABSTRACT Tin Zinc Oxide thin films were deposited on transparent conductive oxide by chemical bath, at percentages of 5, 10 and 15% of tin (Sn) on the zinc oxide (ZnO) structure. All films were thermally treated to improve its crystallinity. The produced films with tin were characterized by x-ray diffraction and optical measurements, such as absorbance, transmittance and reflectance. The x-ray spectrum showed the formation of the ZnO wurtzite and the crystallite size of the films were calculated to be 53.74; 79.59 and 66.38 nm for the photoanodes at 5, 10 and 15% of tin (Sn), respectively, on the zinc oxide structure. The calculated band gap energy of the films revealed that the presence of tin can reduce the band gap energy to about 3.2 eV. Those films were used as photoanodes on dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) to observe the effects of the tin (Sn) on the photovoltaic activity of the zinc oxide (ZnO) semiconductor. Parameters such as efficiency and short circuit current density were particularly affected by the presence of tin in the composition, with the 5% Sn ZnO film presenting the best results of 7.56 % efficiency and 34.35 mA/cm2, short circuit current density, the other films presented lower values for efficiency, which can be attributed to lower values of short-current density.

This paper presents the study of the addition of the polyaniline polymer (PANI), at the junction of the cadmium telluride and cadmium sulfide (CdTe/CdS) layers in order to improve the contact between the layers, to decrease the air gap that limit the conversion photovoltaic. The morphology of CdS, CdTe and polyaniline (PANI) were characterized with multiple techniques including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and optical absorption. The Metrohm Autolab LED Driver Kit system was used for data collection, and it was possible to obtain the current and voltage parameters of the cells. The inclusion of PANI thin film in CdS/CdTe hybrid solar cells increases the energy conversion efficiency from 0.0075% to 0.15%, this gives a 20-fold increase in efficiency.
