ABSTRACT Cutaneous leishmaniasis, caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, presents diverse clinical manifestations, and current therapeutic options have limitations, including long treatment periods, potential hospitalization, and excessive pain during treatment. Methyl gallate, a phenolic compound found in plants such as Libidibia ferrea, presents promising antileishmanial activity. Combining this compound with existing leishmaniasis medications could lead to reduced dosages and the minimization of side effects. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a microemulsion containing methyl gallate, either on its own or in combination with Glucantime®, for the experimental treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis in a 30-day in vivo assay using golden hamsters infected with Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis. The control groups included an untreated positive control and an uninfected, untreated negative control. After treatment, we evaluated clinical, parasitological, and biochemical parameters. While none of the treatments achieved clinical or parasitological cure, notable improvements were observed in the combined group, with significant reductions in snout skin lesions and parasite load when compared to the control. Biochemical parameters such as creatinine, CK-MB, GOT, and GPT remained unchanged, but urea and CPK levels significantly increased in all the experimental groups relative to the control. In conclusion, the integration of a topical methyl gallate microemulsion with intralesional Glucantime® showed potential as an effective treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis. Further investigations into optimal dosages and therapeutic schemes are warranted in order to enhance treatment outcomes.

RESUMO A leishmaniose cutânea, causada por protozoários do gênero Leishmania, apresenta diversas manifestações clínicas e as opções terapêuticas atuais têm limitações, incluindo longos períodos de tratamento, possível hospitalização e dor excessiva durante o tratamento. O galato de metila, um composto fenólico encontrado em plantas como Libidibia ferrea, mostra atividade antileishmania promissora. A combinação deste composto com os medicamentos existentes para leishmaniose pode levar a dosagens reduzidas e à minimização dos efeitos colaterais. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia de uma microemulsão contendo galato de metila, isoladamente ou em combinação com Glucantime®, no tratamento experimental da leishmaniose cutânea em um ensaio in vivo de 30 dias em hamsters sírios infectados com Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis. Os grupos de controle incluíram um controle positivo não tratado e um controle negativo não infectado e não tratado. Após o tratamento, avaliamos parâmetros clínicos, parasitológicos e bioquímicos. Embora nenhum dos tratamentos tenha alcançado cura clínica ou parasitológica, melhorias notáveis foram observadas no grupo combinado, com redução significativa nas lesões cutâneas do focinho e na carga parasitária em comparação com o controle. Parâmetros bioquímicos como creatinina, CK-MB, TGO e TGP permaneceram inalterados, os níveis de ureia e CPK aumentaram significativamente em todos os grupos experimentais em relação ao controle. Em conclusão, a integração da microemulsão tópica de galato de metila com Glucantime® intralesional mostrou potencial como um tratamento eficaz para a leishmaniose cutânea. Mais investigações sobre dosagens ideais e esquemas terapêuticos são necessárias para melhorar os resultados do tratamento.

Resumo Este ensaio possui como principal objetivo problematizar mudanças ocorridas no trabalho de professoras e professores da rede particular de ensino no contexto de pandemia e sua relação com a saúde. Apresenta novas formas de resistências e organização coletiva, como a greve virtual, do ponto de vista dos próprios docentes que se encontram em atividades de ensino remoto e, também, em exercício de direção sindical. Foi construído de forma compartilhada, entre professore(a)s e pesquisadore(a)s. Fundamenta-se na pedagogia crítica e dialógica freireana, cujos processos valorizam a formação mútua e emancipadora. Dos diálogos empreendidos durante a construção do texto, chegamos a quatro importantes pontos de análise e problematização, a saber: trabalho docente em tempos de isolamento social; mudanças no processo e na organização do trabalho; aspectos geracionais e questões de gênero; saúde docente, resistências e greve virtual. Ao fim, observa-se que o tipo de atividade de ensino, não presencial, por meio de plataformas e outros recursos digitais, se constitui como uma configuração atual do trabalho que se aprofunda no contexto de pandemia e faz uso exacerbado da tecnologia, articulando novos modos de controle, extração de sobretrabalho e do mais-valor social.

Abstract This essay has as main objective to problematize changes occurred in the work of teachers and private school teachers in the context of a pandemic and its relationship with health. It presents new forms of resistance and collective organization, such as the virtual strike, from the point of view of the teachers themselves who are in remote teaching activities and also in the exercise of union leadership. It was built in a shared way, between professors and researchers. It is based on Freire’s critical and dialogical pedagogy, whose processes value mutual and emancipatory formation. From the dialogues undertaken during the construction of the text, we come to four important points of analysis and problematization, namely: teaching work in times of social isolation; changes in the work process and organization; generational aspects and gender issues; teaching health, resistance and virtual strike. In the end, it is observed that the type of teaching activity, not in person, through platforms and other digital resources, constitutes a current configuration of work that deepens in the context of a pandemic and makes exacerbated use of technology, articulating new control modes, extraction of overwork and social added value.

Resumen Este ensayo tiene como principal objetivo problematizar los cambios ocurridos en el trabajo de profesoras y profesores de la red de enseñanza particular en el contexto de la pandemia y su relación con la salud. Presenta nuevas formas de resistencias y organización colectiva, como la huelga virtual, del punto de vista de los propios docentes que se encuentran en actividades de enseñanza remota y, también, en ejercicio de dirección sindical. Fue construido de forma compartida, entre profesores(a)s e investigadores(a)s. Se fundamenta en la pedagogía crítica y dialógica freireana, cuyos procesos valorizan la formación mútua y emancipadora. De los diálogos emprendidos durante la construcción del texto, llegamos a cuatro importantes puntos de análisis y problematización, a saber: trabajo docente en tiempos de aislamiento social; cambios en el proceso y en la organización del trabajo; aspectos generacionales y cuestiones de género; salud docente, resistencias y huelga virtual. Al fin, se observa que el tipo de actividad de enseñanza, no presencial, por medio de plataformas y otros recursos digitales, se constituye como una configuración actual del trabajo que se profundiza en el contexto de la pandemia y hace uso exacerbado de la tecnología, articulando nuevos modos de control, extracción de sobretrabajo y de plusvalía social.

Método: Trata-se de um estudo transversal e quantitativo, realizado com enfermeiros de um hospital universitário em João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas, com uso de um instrumento para obtenção dos dados sociodemográficos e condições de saúde e da Escala de Indicadores de Prazer e Sofrimento no Trabalho. Resultados: Participaram 152 enfermeiros. A Vivência de Prazer e os seus domínios foram classificados como satisfatórios, enquanto os Fatores de Sofrimento e seus domínios obtiveram avaliação crítica. Foram observadas associações estatisticamente significativas (p≤0,05) entre os indicadores de prazer e sofrimento e algumas condições de saúde, problemas de saúde e uso de medicamentos. Conclusão: Os níveis satisfatórios de prazer apresentaram associação com melhores condições de saúde e níveis críticos de sofrimento foram associados a piores condições de saúde.

Statistically significant associations were observed (p≤0.05) between the indicators of pleasure and suffering and some health conditions, health problems and medication use. Conclusion: Satisfactory levels of pleasure were associated with better health conditions and critical levels of suffering were associated with worse health conditions.

Abstract The biota of the humid mountain ranges of the Brazilian semiarid is still poorly understood. In order to fill this scientific gap, we carried out an extensive survey along altitudinal ranges (400m - 1,000 m) on both the windward and the leeward slopes of the Baturité Mountain Range, in the state of Ceará state. We registered 400 plant species and 92 families. The Myrtaceae (36 spp.), Fabaceae (25 spp.), Rubiaceae (20 spp.) and Bromeliaceae (15 spp.) families predominated on the windward slope; while Fabaceae (19 spp.), Myrtaceae (14 spp.) and Euphorbiaceae (11 spp.) were the most abundant on the leeward slope. As we expected, the species richness of trees, shrubs, subshrubs, epiphytes and terrestrial herbs was positively correlated with the altitude (R2 > 0.60). Above 800 m, we registered 273 species exclusive to the windward slope, 81 exclusive to the leeward slope, and 46 shared species. Therefore, management actions must consider the spatial heterogeneity, distribution and taxa richness.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: Chagas disease remains a public health problem in the rural and urban areas of 19 countries in the Americas. METHODS: The aim of the present study was to investigate the Trypanosoma cruzi infection rate of triatomines collected from both intra- and peridomiciliary areas in eleven municipalities of Southeastern Ceará, Brazil, from 2009 to 2015. RESULTS: A total of 32,364 triatomine specimens, including nymphs and adults, were collected, and 31,736 (98.06%) of these were examined. More nymphs were collected than adults, and the greatest number of triatomines (n = 8,548) was collected in 2010, for which the infection rate was 1.3%, with the highest rate of infections observed for specimens from Quixere. The species collected during the study were identified as Triatoma pseudomaculata, Triatoma brasiliensis, Panstrongylus megistus, Panstrongylus lutzi, and Rhodnius nasutus, with T. pseudomaculata being the most abundant (n = 19,962). CONCLUSIONS: These results verify the presence of triatomines in both intra- and peridomiciliary areas, thereby ensuring persistence of the pathogen and consequently, the disease, as the presence of infected vectors in households is an important risk factor. According to these findings, the Chagas Disease Control Program should intensify its efforts in order to prevent the spread of the disease.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Candida parapsilosis is one of the main species that is able to adhere to forming biofilms on inert materials. Adhesion is the first step towards the colonization and invasion of host cells during the infectious process. Among the infections, vulvovaginal candidiasis is increasingly common. The objective was to evaluate the profile of adherence and biofilm formation of eight isolates of C. parapsilosis on the metal used in intrauterine devices (IUDs). Methods: Eight strains of C. parapsilosis presenting strong adhesion and biofilm formation properties were isolated from vaginal secretions in a previous study. To assay the adhesion and biofilm formation, copper fragments were made and cultivated in tubes containing 3 mL of phosphate-buffered saline and incubated for 6 and 24 h at 37 °C to evaluate biofilm formation. After incubation, the intensity of adherence and of biofilm formation on copper fragments were determined by performing a colony count. Results: All isolates were able to form biofilms and the isolate Cp62 showed many cells joined in a planktonic mode forming biofilms. The use of an IUD is one of the main factors that favors vulvovaginal candidiasis, and the presence of copper in this device increases the chance of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (CVVR) due to the ease with which species of the genus Candida can adhere to inert surfaces. Conclusion: This research showed that the clinical isolates studied adhered to IUD copper fragments and formed biofilms, further increasing their virulence.

RESUMO O girassol sob forma de silagem é uma alternativa para ser utilizado no período de safrinha, em que a deficiência hídrica torna as culturas tradicionais inviáveis. No entanto, a silagens exclusiva de girassol apresentam níveis acima de 70 g/kg MS de extrato etéreo, o que pode comprometer a fermentação ruminal. Sendo assim, a ensilagem do girassol com forrageiras tropicais pode trazer benefícios para a qualidade da silagem. Sendo assim, objetivouse avaliar o perfil fermentativo e o valor nutritivo da silagem de girassol com cultivares de Urochloa brizantha na safrinha. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos da silagem de girassol com e sem adição de cultivares de Urochloa brizantha na ensilagem: silagem de girassol; silagem de girassol + 30% do capim-marandu; silagem de girassol + 30% do capim-xaraés; silagem de girassol + 30% do capim-piatã e silagem de girassol + 30% do capim-paiaguás, totalizando 20 silos experimentais. Os resultados demonstraram que as silagens com adição dos cultivares de Urochloa brizantha, contribuíram para melhorar o perfil fermentativo e valor nutricional das silagens. Silagens com 30% dos capins piatã e paiaguás apresentaram maiores teores de PB e menores teores de FDA e lignina, sendo mais recomendadas para ensilagem com girassol.

SUMMARY Sunflower as silage is an alternative to be used in the off-season, when water shortage makes traditional crops unfeasible. However, exclusive sunflower silages have levels above 70 g/kg DM ether extract, which may impair ruminal fermentation. Thus, ensiling sunflower with tropical forages can bring benefits to the quality of the silage. This study evaluated the fermentation profile and nutritional value of sunflower silage with cultivars of Urochloa brizantha in the off-season. This was a completely randomized experimental design with four replications. The treatments were composed of the sunflower silage with and without addition of cultivars of Urochloa brizantha in the ensiling process: sunflower silage; sunflower silage + 30% Marandu palisadegrass; sunflower silage + 30% Xaraes palisadegrass; sunflower silage + 30% Piata palisadegrass and sunflower silage + 30% Paiaguas palisadegrass, totaling 20 experimental silos. The addition of the cultivars of Urochloa brizantha to sunflower silage contributed to improve the fermentation profile and nutritional value of the silages. Silages with 30% Piata and Paiaguas palisadegrass showed higher levels of CP and lower levels of ADF and lignin, and these cultivars are the most recommended for ensiling with sunflower.

RESUMO No dia 12 de maio de 2016, estiveram reunidos na cidade de Marília, no I Fórum de Serviços de Apoio aos Estudantes de Medicina (Forsa), realizado durante o 10° Congresso Paulista de Educação Médica (CPEM), representantes de serviços de apoio discente, bem como docentes e estudantes de Medicina, a fim de discutir e elencar estratégias de fortalecimento dos serviços de apoio à saúde discente, estritamente necessárias no contexto violento em que se inserem as escolas médicas. Foi criado um documento, denominado “A Carta de Marília”. Em 13 de outubro de 2016, esse documento foi referendado pelo XI Fórum Cobem dos Serviços de Apoio (Forsa Cobem) durante o 54º Congresso Brasileiro de Educação Médica na cidade de Brasília.

ABSTRACT On May 12, 2016 the first Forum for Support Services for Medical Students (Forsa) held in the city of Marilia during the 10th Paulista Congress of Medical Education (CPEM), gathered representatives of student support services, as well as teachers and medical students in order to discuss and rank strategies to enhance the services to support student health, strictly necessary in the violent setting in which medical schools operate. A document was created and named “The Letter of Marilia.” On October 13, 2016, this document was endorsed by the XI COBEM Forum for Support Services (FORSA COBEM) during the 54th Brazilian Medical Education Congress in Brasília.

Desenvolveu-se esse estudo com objetivo de determinar o fracionamento de proteínas e carboidratos do capim-piatã ensilado com farelos energéticos. O experimento foi conduzido no Instituto Federal Goiano, Campus Rio Verde. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial 4 x 5, sendo quatro farelos energéticos (milheto, milho, sorgo e trigo) e cinco níveis de adição (0, 8, 16, 24 e 32%). Os farelos utilizados foram obtidos através da moagem dos grãos, onde a adição dos níveis foi calculada com base na matéria natural do capim-piatã. Os resultados demonstraram que os farelos energéticos, apresentam boas fontes de aditivos para a ensilagem, por trazer melhorias consideráveis nas frações proteínas e fração carboidratos. No entanto, dentre os farelos utilizados o de sorgo mostrou menos eficiente por apresentar menor fração protéica (A) e maior fração C, quando comparados com os outros aditivos. E os farelos de trigo e sorgo apresentaram maiores frações carboidratos (A+B1 e C). Recomenda-se a adição do nível de 24% dos farelos, por proporcionar melhor valor nutritivo da silagem.

This study determined the fractionation of protein and carbohydrate of Piata palisadegrass ensiled with energetic meals. The experiment was developed at the Federal Institute of Goiás State, Rio Verde Campus, using a completely randomized design with four replications, in a 4 x 5 factorial arrangement, being four energetic meals (millet, corn, sorghum and wheat) and five levels of addition (0, 8, 16, 24 and 32%). The meals were obtained by grinding the grains, where the levels of addition were calculated based on natural material. The results indicated that the energetic meals represented good sources of additives for ensiling Piata palisadegrass, for considerably improving protein and carbohydrate fractions. However, among the meals used, the sorghum was less efficient by presenting a lower protein fraction (A) and higher fraction C, compared with other additives. The meals of wheat and sorghum showed higher contents of carbohydrate fractions (A+B1 and C). It is recommended the level of addition of 24% of meals, for providing better nutritional value to silage.

Objetivou-se avaliar a acessibilidade de pessoas com deficiência e restrição de mobilidade permanente ao SUS em João Pessoa (PB). Trata-se de estudo descritivo de campo, composto por amostra aleatória de 523 pessoas com deficiência ou restrição permanente de mobilidade. A coleta de dados ocorreu no período de agosto de 2007 à dezembro de 2008 e consistiu de entrevistas domiciliares. As funções neuromusculoesqueléticas e relacionadas ao movimento foram as mais prejudicadas (52%), havendo maior acometimento das estruturas corporais relacionadas ao movimento (44,2%) e as do Sistema Nervoso (39,2%), com destaque para o elevado número de casos (14%) decorrentes de sequela de Acidente Vascular Cerebral (AVC). Entre os entrevistados, 63,9% afirmam que de suas residências aos locais onde recebiam atendimento à Saúde não haviam meios suficientes e apropriados para diminuir os obstáculos físicos e 41,7% que não existiam adaptações nos locais de atendimento. A legislação brasileira garante direitos às pessoas com deficiência que não foram amplamente respeitados. São necessárias ações que previnam o desenvolvimento de deficiências, em especial aquelas decorrentes de sequelas de AVC.

The scope of this study was to monitor the access of persons with disabilities and permanent mobility restrictions to the Unified Health System in João Pessoa, State of Pernambuco. This is a descriptive field study, consisting of a random sample of 523 people with disabilities or permanent mobility restrictions. Data collection occurred between August 2007 and December 2008 and consisted of home interviews. The neuromusculoskeletal functions and those related to movement (52%) were among the most affected body functions, with a higher incidence among body structures related to movement (44.2%) and those of the nervous system (39.2%), with special emphasis on the high number of cases (14%) due to the sequelae from strokes. Among the respondents, 63.9% stated that there had not been sufficient and appropriate means to lessen the physical obstacles between their homes and the places where they received healthcare, and 41.7% claimed that there were no special facilities for the handicapped in the healthcare offices. Brazilian law ensures rights for people with disabilities, which were not broadly respected. Action is necessary to prevent the development of disabilities, especially those resulting from the sequelae from strokes.

Action is necessary to prevent the development of disabilities, especially those resulting from the sequelae from strokes.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do fotoperíodo no crescimento e sobrevivência da tilápia chitralada, Oreochromis niloticus, durante e após a fase de reversão sexual. O trabalho foi realizado em 2006 e 2007, em dois experimentos. No primeiro experimento, foram utilizadas pós-larvas de 0,031±0,0058 g e 1,24±0,096 cm à densidade de 1,5 pós-larva L-1. As pós-larvas foram submetidas aos fotoperíodos 0, 8, 12, 16, 24 horas de luz e a 12,5 horas de luz natural, durante 28 dias. Os animais foram alimentados com ração de 45% de proteína bruta, com hormônio andrógeno, na proporção de 20% da biomassa total, dividida em quatro refeições. As biometrias foram realizadas no início e no fim do experimento. No segundo experimento, foram utilizados alevinos de 0,38±0,16 g e 2,81±0,40 cm, revertidos para macho. O desenho experimental foi semelhante ao do primeiro experimento, exceto a densidade de estocagem (0,33 peixe L-1), a taxa de alimentação (10% da biomassa total) e o tempo de experimento (46 dias). Realizaram-se biometrias quinzenais. O fotoperíodo interferiu mais expressivamente na sobrevivência das pós-larvas da tilápia, e a luz natural foi a mais indicada durante a reversão sexual. A melhor sobrevivência dos alevinos ocorreu no grupo 0 hora de luz. Melhores crescimentos em pesos e comprimentos, porém, aconteceram nos demais fotoperíodos. Taxas de sobrevivência e de crescimento, em resposta a diferentes fotoperíodos, parecem estar relacionadas à idade do peixe.

The objective of this work was to assess the effect of photoperiod in the growth and survival of tilapia chitralada, Oreochromis niloticus, during and after the sexual reversion. The work was carried out in 2006 and 2007, and divided into two experiments. In the first experiment, post-larvae of 0.031±0.0058 g and 1.24±0.096 cm were used, at the density of 1.5 post-larva L-1. The post-larvae were submitted to the following photoperiods: 0, 8, 12, 16, 24 hours of light and 12.5 hours of natural light, during 28 days. The fishes were fed with 45% crude protein balanced food, containing androgen hormone, at 20% of the total biomass, divided into four meals. Sampling was done at the beginning and at the end of the experiment. In the second experiment, sex reverted fingerlings of 0.38±0.16 g and 2.81±0.40 cm were used. The experiment protocols were the same as in the former experiment, except for the stock density (0.33 fish L-1), food ratio (10% of the total biomass) and the experimental period (46 days). Sampling was done every fifteen days. The photoperiod interfered more intensively in the survival of the tilapia post-larvae, and the natural light was the recommended photoperiod during the sexual reversion. The best survival rate of the fingerlings occurred in the 0-hour light group; regarding fingerling growth, however, better results in bodyweight and length were found in the other photoperiod groups. It seems that the photoperiod responses to survival and growth are related to fish age.
