A dengue evoluiu de uma doença restrita a alguns países para um grave problema global de saúde pública, atingindo mais de 120 países nos últimos anos. No Brasil, após sua reintrodução em 1981, o país enfrentou diversas epidemias, com mais de 16 milhões de casos registrados até o momento. Em 2023, sob a vigência do fenômeno climático El Niño registrou-se uma das maiores epidemias de dengue no país, com mais de 1,6 milhões de casos notificados. Temperaturas e pluviosidade mais elevadas em conjunto com a circulação simultânea dos quatro sorotipos do vírus da dengue aumentaram ainda mais o risco de disseminação da doença em 2024, especialmente em populações sem imunidade para alguns dos sorotipos. Diante deste quadro, o Ministério da Saúde promoveu várias ações para enfrentar a situação, incluindo a instalação de uma Sala Nacional de Arboviroses e um Comitê de Operações de Emergência, repasses financeiros para apoiar estados e municípios em ações contingenciais de vigilância e prevenção de doenças, com ênfase no enfrentamento das arboviroses e investimentos em inovações para o controle da dengue, como vacinação e o método Wolbachia. Ainda assim, o primeiro trimestre de 2024 registrou um número de casos suspeitos de dengue superior ao de 2023, destacando a necessidade de aprimoramentos no monitoramento da situação epidemiológica para detecção precoce de epidemias e da preparação dos serviços de saúde para o cuidado dos casos com sinais de gravidade. Após mais de 40 anos de epidemias recorrentes, o controle efetivo da dengue no país requer ações sustentadas de prevenção por meio de estratégias inovadoras, envolvendo esforços coordenados de todas as esferas da gestão em saúde, juntamente com a participação ativa da população. Dengue has evolved from a disease restricted to a few countries into a serious global public health issue, affecting over 120 countries in recent years. In Brazil, after its reintroduction in 1981, the country has faced several epidemics, with over 16 million cases registered to date. In 2023, under the influence of the El Niño climatic phenomenon, one of the largest epidemics occurred in the country, with over 1.6 million cases reported. High temperatures and precipitation in line with the simultaneous circulation of all four serotypes of the dengue virus increased the risk of disease spread in 2024, especially in populations without immunity to some of the serotypes. In such a scenario, the Ministry of Health undertook various actions to address the situation, including the establishment of a National Arbovirus Situation Room and an Emergency Operations Commitee, financial support to assist states and municipalities in contingency actions for disease surveillance and prevention, with an emphasis on combating arboviruses, and investments in innovations for dengue control, such as vaccination and the Wolbachia method. However, the number of notified dengue cases in the first trimester of 2024 supplanted the whole year of 2023, highlighting the need for a more effective monitoring of the epidemiological situation for early outbreak detection and the preparation of health services for the care of cases with signs of severity. After more than 40 years of recurrent dengue epidemics, the effective control of dengue requires sustained preventive actions using innovative strategies, with coordinated efforts at all levels of health management, along with active participation of the population. Structural actions to improve basic sanitation coverage and to mitigate the effects of climate change are critical conditions for reducing the burden of dengue in the population.

Facing the decline in vaccine coverage observed since 2016, the new Brazilian government committed to reversing this scenario. To achieve this, the Federal Government launched the National Vaccination Movement and the 'Health with Science' platform to combat vaccine misinformation, promoted Microplanning, providing tools for decision-making at the territorial level, allocated 30 million dollars to states and municipalities to implement innovative vaccination strategies, standardized the rules of the information systems for the registration of vaccine doses, and directed data to the National Health Data Network (RNDS). Reversing the declining trend of vaccination coverage in Brazil is challenging, but within just one year, it is possible to observe significant results from governmental actions. Out of the eight recommended vaccines by the age of one, seven showed an increase in vaccination coverage in 2023 compared to 2022: Most states showed improvements in vaccination coverage. Many challenges persist in advancing the vaccination agenda. However, there are reasons to celebrate the reversal of the declining trend in coverage of several vaccines in this first year of government and the increase in the number of municipalities that have fully achieved the vaccination coverage target. The National Vaccination Movement, with public opinion awareness, the resumption of regionalized communication campaigns, localized micro-planning actions including extramural vaccination strategies, and the integration of information systems, has been decisive in strengthening work in the territories and thus restoring a culture of immunization, a source of pride in the country and internationally recognized, throughout the 50 years of the National Immunization Program

RESUMO Este artigo traça um panorama da história da atuação das ciências no processo histórico de formação do Brasil como nação. Entre 1822 e 2022, os cientistas deram contribuições cruciais ao debate sobre constituição do Estado; identidade nacional; cidadania; visões sobre populações; políticas públicas de saúde e educação; projetos de criação de universidades; circulação internacional de saberes; soberania, desenvolvimento nacional, inserção do Brasil no mundo e convivência entre o atraso e a modernidade. Sugere-se que esses temas centrais em 1822 e 1922 devem ser atualizados na agenda do Bicentenário da Independência. Tal atualização requer uma análise do processo histórico em que se destacam tendências acentuadas pela pandemia de Covid-19: a importância das ciências, e da sustentabilidade da atividade científica, na resposta à crise e aos desafios contemporâneos; a persistência das desigualdades, inclusive as relacionadas ao desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico, e a questão ambiental, transversal e incontornável para todas as áreas do conhecimento.

ABSTRACT This article outlines the role of science in the historical process of formation of Brazil as a nation. Between 1822 and 2022, scientists made crucial contributions to the debate about the constitution of the State, national identity, citizenship, views on populations, public health and education policies, university creation projects, international circulation of knowledge, sovereignty, national development, the insertion of Brazil in the world, and coexistence between backwardness and modernity. We suggest that these central themes in 1822 and in 1922 should be amended in the agenda of the Bicentennial of Independence. This requires an analysis of the historical process in which trends enhanced by the covid-19 pandemic stand out, namely, the importance of science and the sustainability of scientific activity in responding to the crisis and other contemporary challenges; the persistence of inequalities, including those related to scientific and technological development; and the environmental issue, which is transversal and unavoidable in every area of knowledge

RESUMO Este artigo discute o papel da interdisciplinaridade na análise e no enfrentamento da crise sanitária e social global suscitada pela pandemia de Covid-19. Defende-se a necessidade de se repensarem as divisões entre mundo natural e sociedade, com destaque para a questão ambiental, e a nova conformação do campo da informação e comunicação e seus impactos na sociedade contemporânea. Entende-se a pandemia de Covid-19 como um fenômeno inteiramente novo que põe em evidência, por vezes em aceleração, uma série de tendências, mas que pode implicar inflexões e mudanças cujo rumo não está dado. Destaca-se a centralidade da área de saúde coletiva no esforço interdisciplinar para a definição de agendas científicas e, também, de propostas de políticas públicas. Conclui-se que o fortalecimento de pesquisas interdisciplinares especialmente atentas às interrelações de sistemas naturais e sociais são e serão essenciais para a superação da crise atual e das prováveis emergências sanitárias futuras.

Approaching from the perspective of the history and social studies of science, the article analyses some aspects of the early history of Chagas disease, from its discovery through initial research. It is our goal to show that historians of science can explore this topic as a way not only of remembering and narrating past events but also of examining the processes through which science is produced. To this end, we present five basic precepts that have guided historical and sociological studies of “science in action”: science as a collective endeavor, as a social activity, as a set of practices, as a process that involves controversies, and as a formative process. Resumo Neste trabalho apresentamos uma análise das ações de divulgação e popularização da ciência na Fiocruz a partir de duas perspectivas. O estudo tem por objetivo investigar como se organiza um sistema de divulgação e popularização da ciência em uma instituição científica de grande porte e como esse sistema se articula com seu discurso institucional. Além de fazer uma breve revisão da evolução do tema na história da Fiocruz, realizamos um levantamento de como o mesmo tem sido tratado nos documentos oficiais de planejamento. Com o mapeamento das ações realizadas em 2015 e 2016, foi possível compreender melhor esse universo e classificá-lo de acordo com suas características junto ao público.

Abstract An analysis is presented of actions taken by the Brazilian research institution Fiocruz for the communication and popularization of science, from two perspectives. The aim was to investigate how a system for the communication and popularization of science is organized at a large scientific institution and how it is articulated with the institutional discourse. A brief review is presented of how the topic has developed over the history of Fiocruz, followed by a discussion of the way it has been addressed in its official planning documents. The science communication/popularization actions undertaken in 2015 and 2016 were mapped out and classified according to how they interact with the public, giving a better understanding of this area.

Resumo: Este artigo analisa a concepção de educação para as mulheres presente nas obras de Nísia Floresta e Soledad Acosta de Samper e relaciona esta concepção com os movimentos de independência e descolonização da América Latina. Fundamenta-se na genealogia feminista decolonial e metodologicamente na história cultural e comparada. Os resultados revelam que as autoras debatem a formação educacional das mulheres em estreita relação com os movimentos políticos de descolonização do continente latino-americano. Os seus escritos constituem um pensamento fronteiriço que emerge na densa trama da decolonialidade.

Abstract: This article analyzes the conception of education for women that are present in the works of Nísia Floresta and Soledad Acosta, and relates to this conception to the Latin American independence and decolonization movements. It is grounded in decolonial feminist genealogy and methodologically, in cultural and comparative history. The results show that the authors debate the educational formation of women in close relationship with the decolonization political movements of the Latin American continent. Their writings constitute a frontier thought that emerges in the dense web of decoloniality.
