Abstract Background: Real-world, primary data on the treatment of psoriasis are scarce, especially concerning the role of soluble biomarkers as outcome predictors. Objective: The authors evaluated the utility of Th1/Th17 serum cytokines along with clinical characteristics as predictors of drug survival in the treatment of psoriasis. Methods: The authors consecutively included participants with moderate to severe psoriasis who were followed up for 6 years. Baseline interferon-α, tumor necrosis factor-α, and inter-leukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-17A were measured using a cytometric bead array; clinical data were assessed. The authors calculated hazard ratios (HRs) for drug survival using a Cox proportional hazards model. Results: The authors included 262 patients, most of whom used systemic immunosuppressants or biologics. In the multivariate model, poor quality of life measured by the Dermatology Life Quality Index (HR = 1.04; 95% CI 1.01–1.07; p = 0.012) and elevated baseline IL-6 (HR = 1.99; 95% CI 1.29–3.08; p = 0.002) were associated with treatment interruption. Study limitations: The main limitation of any cohort study is the presence of confounders that could not be detected in clinical evaluation. Conclusions: Poor quality of life and elevated baseline serum IL-6 level predicted treatment interruption in patients with moderate to severe psoriasis. Although IL-6 is not the most important mediator of the inflammatory pathway in the skin environment, it is an interesting biomarker candidate for predicting psoriasis treatment response.

Abstract Introduction Community health workers, like the physiotherapist, perform essential functions in primary health care, being an important element in the transformation of public policies. There are no reported studies investigating the knowledge of community health workers about health conditions amenable to physiotherapy intervention in primary health care. Objective To construct a questionnaire to investigate the perception of community health workers about health conditions that could be remedied by physiotherapy intervention in primary health care. Methods This was a methodological study in which it was initially an analysis matrix with the aim of encompassing the ideas contemplated in the questionnaire. To construct the instrument, a literature review was carried out, and health conditions treatable with physiotherapy in primary health care were chosen. To validate the content and appearance of the items, twelve physiotherapists specialized in primary health care judged the suitability of the items contained. The content validity index was used to determine the degree of agreement during the response analysis process. Subsequently, a semantic analysis was carried out through the understanding of the items by 15 community health workers. In the validation stage, two rounds of evaluation were carried out. Adjustments were made to 17 questions. Results The study investigated a questionnaire with 20 questions containing hypothetical situations of home visits, in which the resident's situation could or could not constitute a health risk amenable to physiotherapeutic intervention. Conclusion The community health workers perception instrument on health conditions amenable to physiotherapy intervention in primary health care proved to be valid for use in this context. The use of the instrument may contribute to the development of community health worker training programs, with the aim of facilitating team communication.

Resumo Introdução O Agente Comunitário de Saúde (ACS), assim como o fisioterapeuta, desencadeia funções fundamentais na Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS), sendo ele-mento importante na transformação de políticas públicas. Inexistem estudos que investiguem o conhecimento dos ACS sobre as condições de saúde sensíveis à inter-venção da fisioterapia na APS. Objetivo Construir um questionário de investigação da percepção dos ACS sobre as condições de saúde sensíveis à intervenção da fisioterapia na APS. Métodos Trata-se de um estudo metodológico no qual, inicialmente, construiu-se uma matriz de análise com o intuito de englobar as ideias contempladas no questionário. Para a construção do instrumento, realizou-se uma revisão da literatura, sendo eleitas condições de saúde sensíveis à intervenção da fisioterapia na APS. Para a validação de conteúdo e aparente dos itens, 12 fisioterapeutas especialistas em APS julgaram a adequação dos itens contidos. Utilizou-se o índice de validade de conteúdo para verificar o grau de concordância durante o processo de análise das respos-tas. Posteriormente, realizou-se análise semântica por meio da compreensão dos itens por 15 ACS. Na etapa de validação, foram realizadas duas rodadas de avaliação. Foram feitos ajustes em 17 questões. Resultados O estudo resultou em um questionário com 20 questões contendo situações hipotéticas de visitas domiciliares, cuja situação do morador poderia ou não configurar um risco à saúde sensível à intervenção fisioterapêutica. Conclusão O instrumento de percepção dos ACS sobre as condições de saúde sensíveis à intervenção da fisioterapia na APS mostrou-se válido para ser utilizado no contexto da APS. A utilização do instrumento poderá contribuir na elaboração de programas de capacitação dos ACS, com o intuito de facilitar a comunicação da equipe.

Abstract Introduction: The use of statins in hemodialysis patients is a topic of ongoing research and debate. Patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis constitute a large proportion of patients treated in the vascular surgery field. Clinical data of the protective statin effect on this group is scarce and conflicting results exist regarding cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and limb outcomes. Methods: We performed a thorough electronic search of the literature using PubMed and Embase databases to understand the relationship between statin effect and cardiovascular, limb outcomes and cerebrovascular outcomes. A narrative review was constructed, based on the obtained literature. Results: Although the use of statins in hemodialysis patients may provide cardiovascular benefits, the optimal dosage and safety profile of these medications in this population remain uncertain. A carefully evaluation of the risks and benefits of statins should be made based on each patient's specific requirements and circumstances. Conclusion: The role of statins for patients with peripheral arterial disease who are on hemodialysis remains unclear. Further analyses should focus on this subgroup of dialysis patients, who are becoming more prevalent on the vascular surgery departments, allowing for an optimized treatment with better patient outcomes.

Resumo Introdução: O tabagismo é um problema de saúde pública mundial, sendo um dos maiores fatores de risco responsáveis pela morte evitável. Sua aceitabilidade entre os jovens é crescente, especialmente após a chegada dos cigarros eletrônicos, que têm se tornado mais aceitos que os cigarros convencionais. Sabendo disso e que as tecnologias eletrônicas são úteis no contexto do combate ao tabagismo e no fornecimento informações sobre os prejuízos do ato de fumar, fazem-se essenciais estudos sobre como o tema é discutido nas redes de apoio virtuais. Objetivos: Identificar e compreender as dificuldades enfrentadas por tabagistas que procuram apoio para a cessação do hábito na rede social do aplicativo QuitNow! Métodos: Estudo netnográfico realizado em março de 2023. Foram analisados e observados, durante quatro dias, os comentários publicados pelos participantes do aplicativo QuitNow!, os quais relataram diversos aspectos relacionados às dificuldades e fatores que impactam o ato de cessar o tabagismo. Resultados: Analisaram-se 447 mensagens publicadas no fórum de discussão do aplicativo QuitNow! e, 31 delas relacionavam-se às dificuldades de cessar o tabagismo, com uma média de 8 (6,93%) mensagens diárias sobre este assunto. Os comentários foram classificados em duas temáticas para realização da análise qualitativa, sendo a maioria deles relacionados à dependência física do cigarro (n=19) e à dependência psicológica e comportamental (n=12). Conclusões: As tecnologias exercem um papel fundamental no auxílio a cessação do tabagismo, porém os participantes da rede social investigada não identificam um método eficaz para a assistência ao paciente em momentos de fissura, muitas vezes, acompanhados de ansiedade e depressão. Os conhecimentos obtidos nesta investigação podem contribuir para que os profissionais de saúde possam elaborar e implementar estratégias de comunicação em saúde mais ampliadas, além de inspirar políticas públicas, no sentido de apresentar alternativas tecnológicas ou não de apoio a cessação do tabagismo.

Abstract Introduction: Smoking is a worldwide public health problem, being one of the major risk factors responsible for preventable death. Its acceptability among young people is increasing, especially after the arrival of electronic cigarettes, which have become more accepted than conventional cigarettes. Knowing this and that electronic technologies are useful in the context of combating smoking and providing information about the damage caused by smoking, it is essential to study how this topic has been discussed in virtual support networks. Goals: Identify and understand the difficulties faced by smokers who seek support for quitting the habit on the QuitNow! app's social network. Methods: Netnographic study carried out in March 2023. There were analysed and observed, fou four days, comments published by QuitNow! participants, who reported several aspects related to the difficulties and factors that impact the act of quitting smoking. Results: There were analyzed 447 messages published in the QuitNow! application discussion forum, and 31 of them were related to difficulties in quitting smoking, with an average of 8 (6.93%) daily messages on this subject. The comments were divided into two themes for carrying out the qualitative analysis, most of them related to physical dependence on cigarettes (n=19) and psychological and behavioral dependence (n=12). Conclusions: Technologies play a fundamental role in helping to quit smoking, but the participants of the investigated social network did not identify an effective method for patient care in moments of craving, often accompanied by anxiety and depression. The knowledge obtained in this investigation can help health professionals to design and implement broader communication and health strategies and public policies, in the sense of presenting technological or non-technological alternatives to support smoking cessation.

ABSTRACT Objective: To update the recommendations to support decisions regarding the pharmacological treatment of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods: Experts, including representatives of the Ministry of Health and methodologists, created this guideline. The method used for the rapid development of guidelines was based on the adoption and/or adaptation of existing international guidelines (GRADE ADOLOPMENT) and supported by the e-COVID-19 RecMap platform. The quality of the evidence and the preparation of the recommendations followed the GRADE method. Results: Twenty-one recommendations were generated, including strong recommendations for the use of corticosteroids in patients using supplemental oxygen and conditional recommendations for the use of tocilizumab and baricitinib for patients on supplemental oxygen or on noninvasive ventilation and anticoagulants to prevent thromboembolism. Due to suspension of use authorization, it was not possible to make recommendations regarding the use of casirivimab + imdevimab. Strong recommendations against the use of azithromycin in patients without suspected bacterial infection, hydroxychloroquine, convalescent plasma, colchicine, and lopinavir + ritonavir and conditional recommendations against the use of ivermectin and remdesivir were made. Conclusion: New recommendations for the treatment of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 were generated, such as those for tocilizumab and baricitinib. Corticosteroids and prophylaxis for thromboembolism are still recommended, the latter with conditional recommendation. Several drugs were considered ineffective and should not be used to provide the best treatment according to the principles of evidence-based medicine and to promote resource economy.

RESUMO Objetivo: Atualizar as recomendações para embasar as decisões para o tratamento farmacológico de pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos: A elaboração desta diretriz foi feita por especialistas, incluindo representantes do Ministério da Saúde e metodologistas. O método utilizado para o desenvolvimento rápido de diretrizes baseou-se na adoção e/ou adaptação de diretrizes internacionais existentes (GRADE ADOLOPMENT) e contou com o apoio da plataforma e-COVID-19 RecMap. A qualidade das evidências e a elaboração das recomendações seguiram o método GRADE. Resultados: Chegaram-se a 21 recomendações, incluindo recomendações fortes quanto ao uso de corticosteroides em pacientes em uso de oxigênio suplementar e recomendações condicionais para o uso de tocilizumabe e baricitinibe, em pacientes com oxigênio suplementar ou ventilação não invasiva, e de anticoagulantes, para prevenção de tromboembolismo. Devido à suspensão da autorização de uso, não foi possível fazer recomendações para o tratamento com casirivimabe + imdevimabe. Foram feitas recomendações fortes contra o uso de azitromicina em pacientes sem suspeita de infecção bacteriana, hidroxicloroquina, plasma convalescente, colchicina e lopinavir + ritonavir, além de recomendações condicionais contra o uso de ivermectina e rendesivir. Conclusão: Foram criadas novas recomendações para o tratamento de pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19, como as recomendações de tocilizumabe e baricitinibe. Ainda são recomendados corticosteroides e profilaxia contra tromboembolismo, esta em caráter condicional. Vários medicamentos foram considerados ineficazes e não devem ser usados, no intuito de proporcionar o melhor tratamento segundo os princípios da medicina baseada em evidências e promover a economia de recursos.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory, chronic and autoimmune disease that causes joint damage and can lead to physical disability. Patients with chronic and debilitating diseases such as arthritis need to adapt to the new reality. These changes may have less impact on patients with greater self-efficacy and resilience. Psychosocial factors influence the quality of life (QoL) of these patients, so the aim of this study was to assess resilience in this population and its relationship with pain, functional capacity and disease activity. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study carried out with patients at a medical specialties clinic, using a sociodemographic, a clinical-laboratory, a health assessment, a disease activity score questionnaires and the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale. The data was analyzed using Fisher’s Exact, Chi-square, Student’s t and ANOVA tests. RESULTS: 120 patients participated in the study, 89.2% female, mean age 56.9 ± 10.7 years. Pain was classified as severe by 40.8%, 65.8% had disease in remission and 50.8% had mild disability. The resilience of 49.2% was high. There was an association between lower resilience and: presence of painful joints (p=0.004) and greater pain intensity (p=0.014). There was a lower average of resilience (130.95) in participants with severe disability. CONCLUSION: Patients with less resilient rheumatoid arthritis had greater functional disability, painful joints and greater pain intensity. In addition, from the moment additional measures are adopted, such as educational actions and behavioral strategies, with an emphasis on resilience, which help in the control and clinical outcome of the disease, there will certainly be a positive impact on the quality of life of these patients.

RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: A artrite reumatoide é uma doença inflamatória, crônica e autoimune, que acarreta lesão articular e pode ocasionar incapacidade física. Pacientes com doenças crônicas e debilitantes como a artrite necessitam se adaptar à nova realidade. Essas mudanças podem ser menos impactantes em pacientes com maior autoeficácia e resiliência. Os fatores psicossociais exercem influência na qualidade de vida (QV) desses pacientes, portanto o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a resiliência nessa população e sua relação com dor, capacidade funcional e atividade da doença. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de uma pesquisa transversal, realizada com pacientes de uma clínica de especialidades médicas, através dos questionários sociodemográfico, clínico-laboratorial, de avaliação da saúde, de escore da atividade da doença,e avaliação da saúde, de escore da atividade da doença, e da escala de Resiliência de Wagnild e Young. A análise dos dados foi feita através dos testes Exato de Fisher, Qui-quadrado, t de Student e ANOVA. RESULTADOS: Participaram do estudo 120 pacientes, sendo 89,2% do sexo feminino, com média de idade de 56,9±10,7 anos. A dor foi classificada como intensa por 40,8%; 65,8% dos pacientes estavam com doença em remissão e 50,8% com incapacidade leve. A resiliência de 49,2% foi elevada. Foi verificada uma associação entre menor resiliência e: presença de articulações dolorosas (p=0,004) e maior intensidade de dor (p=0,014). Foi verificada menor média de resiliência (130,95) nos participantes com incapacidade grave. CONCLUSÃO: Pacientes com artrite reumatoide menos resilientes apresentaram maior incapacidade funcional, articulações dolorosas e maior intensidade de dor. Além disso, a partir do momento em que se adota medidas adicionais, tais como ações educativas e estratégias comportamentais, com ênfase na resiliência, que auxiliem no controle e no desfecho clínico da doença, certamente haverá impacto positivo na QV dos pacientes.

Resumo: As barreiras éticas envolvidas na prática da medicina paliativa pediátrica ainda são grandes e desafiadoras. No que diz respeito à ética médica, deve-se prestar atenção à cultura, religião e valores familiares, a fim de pro-mover um cuidado adequado para os cuidadores, mesmo em caso de perda do paciente, promovendo um pro-cesso de luto com menos sofrimento. Os dados foram analisados qualitativamente pelo software IRAMU-TEQ, com um alto grau de significância das respostas dos ensaios sobre ética relacionada aos cuidados palia-tivos em pediatria. As discussões sobre prognóstico, objetivos de cuidados e opções de tratamento podem ser extremamente desafiadoras, uma vez que as alternativas de cuidados paliativos legalmente suportadas podem divergir dos desejos da família. Nosso estudo conclui que existem divergências entre a implementação da medicina paliativa e a ética em relação à aceitação e manejo do fim da vida de pacientes pediátricos. Os desa-fios éticos são constantemente situações complexas em que os médicos paliativistas devem relacionar concei-tos legais, conhecimento e valores familiares, que frequentemente entram em conflito. A qualidade dos cuida-dos paliativos depende inicialmente da capacidade de profissionais especializados identificarem e explicarem as questões éticas que levam a conflitos ou incertezas, além de levantar discussões com a família sobre ques-tões médicas, morais e legais que cercam a situação difícil.

Resumen: Las barreras éticas involucradas en la práctica de la medicina paliativa pediátrica siguen siendo altas y desafiantes. En términos de ética médica, se debe prestar atención a la cultura, la religión y los valores familiares, con el fin de promover una atención adecuada a los cuidadores, incluso en caso de pérdida de un paciente, promoviendo un proceso de duelo con menos sufrimiento. Los datos fueron analizados cualitativamente por el software IRAMUTEQ, con un alto grado de significación de las respuestas de los ensayos sobre la ética relacionada con los cuidados paliativos en pediatría. Las discusiones sobre el pronóstico, los objetivos de los cuidados y las opciones de tratamiento pueden ser muy difíciles, ya que las alternativas de cuidados paliativos legalmente respaldadas pueden divergir de los deseos de la familia. Se concluye que existen divergencias entre la aplicación de la medicina paliativa y la ética en relación con la aceptación y la gestión del final de la vida de los pacientes pediátricos. Los retos éticos son situaciones constantemente complejas en las que los médicos paliativos deben relacionar conceptos jurídicos, conocimientos y valores familiares, que a menudo entran en conflicto. La calidad de los cuidados paliativos depende inicialmente de la capacidad de los profesionales especializados para identificar y explicar las cuestiones éticas que generan conflicto o incertidumbre, además de plantear debates con la familia sobre las cuestiones médicas, morales y jurídicas que rodean la difícil situación.

Abstract: The ethical barriers involved in the practice of pediatric palliative medicine remain high and challenging. In terms of medical ethics, attention should be paid to culture, religion and family values, in order to promote adequate care for caregivers, even in case of loss of a patient, promoting a bereavement process with less suffering. The data were qualitatively analyzed by IRAMUTEQ software, with a high degree of significance of essay responses on ethics related to palliative care in pediatrics. Discussions about prognosis, goals of care, and treatment options can be very difficult, as legally supported palliative care alternatives may diverge from the wishes of the family. We conclude that divergences exist between the application of palliative medicine and ethics regarding acceptance and end-of-life management of pediatric patients. Ethical challenges are constantly complex situations in which palliative physicians must relate legal concepts, knowledge and family values, which often conflict. The quality of palliative care depends initially on the ability of specialized professionals to identify and explain the ethical issues that generate conflict or uncertainty, in addition to raising discussions with the family about the medical, moral and legal issues surrounding the difficult situation.

Abstract This paper analyzes the experience of 100 individuals (50 Brazilians and 50 Portuguese) in the context of a conversational system with an automated voice assistant. The UX evaluation consisted of calculating descriptive statistics, analyzing the phrases spoken by users during the tests and applying the SUS scale. This methodological approach made it possible to verify that the conceptual prototype simulates a product with great potential for facilitating the daily lives of professionals working in beauty salons. However, there are features that need to be redesigned, such as the choice of button names and the accessibility of the tool. Another contribution is the confirmation that there are divergent opinions between the Brazilian and Portuguese sample populations, showing that the solution was better accepted by the Portuguese. This last issue is one of the most relevant aspects of this study's findings, as it could jeopardize the success of such an assistant.

Resumo Este artigo analisa a experiência de 100 indivíduos (50 brasileiros e 50 portugueses) no contexto de um sistema conversacional com assistente de voz automatizado. A avaliação da UX foi realizada em diferentes etapas: cálculo da estatística descritiva, análise das frases ditas pelos utilizadores e aplicação da escala SUS. Esta abordagem metodológica permitiu verificar que o protótipo conceptual simula um produto com grande potencial para facilitar o dia a dia dos profissionais que atuam em salões de estética e beleza. No entanto, há funcionalidades que devem ser redesenhadas, como a escolha dos nomes dos botões e a acessibilidade da ferramenta. Outra contribuição do estudo é a confirmação de que há opiniões divergentes entre as populações da amostra, brasileira e portuguesa, mostrando que a solução teve melhor aceitação entre os portugueses. Esta última questão é um dos aspetos mais relevantes dos achados deste trabalho, pois pode comprometer o sucesso de tal assistente.

This study aims to understand the global panorama of ankyloglossia in newborns by means of a bibliometric analysis of scientific productions up to January 2023. A search was conducted with the terms Newborn, Ankyloglossia and their synonyms in the Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, Virtual Health Library, Web of Science and Scopus platforms. After removing duplicates and applying the eligibility criteria, 431 studies were included and imported into the VOSviwer software. The most cited keywords were Surgery (198) and Breastfeeding (151). Among the 49 countries surveyed, the United States published the most on the subject (107). The most relevant study in the studied portfolio was Ankyloglossia: assessment, incidence, and effect of frenuloplasty on the breastfeeding dyad by Ballard and collaborators. The journal Pediatrics obtained the highest number of citations (608) and year 2019 recorded the most articles about ankyloglossia in newborns (44). The findings of this study show that the topic linked to oral brakes has sparked a growing interest in the scientific community, and show the concern in unveiling the real impact of ankyloglossia on the infant's breastfeeding, as well as the need to seek a consensus in diagnosis regarding surgical indication.

Este trabalho buscou mapear o panorama global da anquiloglossia em recém-nascidos por meio da análise bibliométrica de produções científicas até janeiro de 2023. Para obtenção dos estudos, foi realizada uma busca avançada com os termos “Newborn”, “Ankyloglossia” e seus sinônimos nas plataformas Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, Web of Science e Scopus. Os resultados foram importados para o gerenciador de referência Zotero. Após a remoção das duplicatas e aplicação dos critérios de elegibilidade, 431 estudos foram incluídos na análise e importados para o software VOSviwer versão 16.18. As palavras-chave mais citadas na pesquisa foram “Cirurgia” (198) e “Aleitamento” (151), que também apresentaram forte ligação entre si. Dentre os 49 países pesquisados, os Estados Unidos, o Reino Unido e a Austrália foram os que mais publicaram sobre o assunto, com 107, 44 e 28, respectivamente. O estudo mais relevante no portfólio estudado foi escrito por Ballard e colaboradores sob o título “Ankyloglossia: assessment, incidence, and effect of frenuloplasty on the breastfeeding dyad”. A revista “Pediatrics” obteve o maior número de citações (608) e ano de 2019 registrou a maior quantidade de artigos sobre a anquiloglossia em recém-nascidos (44). Os achados deste estudo demonstram que a temática ligada aos freios orais tem despertado um interesse crescente na comunidade científica e evidenciam a preocupação em desvendar o impacto real da anquiloglossia na amamentação do bebê, assim como a necessidade de buscar um consenso no diagnóstico em relação à indicação cirúrgica.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The Hip Sports Activity Scale (HSAS) is a hip-specific instrument for assessing the present levels of physical activity among patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome. When evaluating treatment outcomes in patients with FAI syndrome, it is necessary to use joint-specific instruments and ones that can evaluate the levels of physical activity in these patients, such as the HSAS-Brazil. OBJECTIVE: To validate the HSAS-Brazil among a group of physically active patients after arthroscopic treatment of FAI syndrome. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional research of quantitative and qualitative types using data obtained from July 2018 to October 2019. METHODS: A total of 58 patients of both genders diagnosed with FAI syndrome and who had undergone hip arthroscopy participated in this research. To establish reliability and validity, patients first answered the Brazilian versions of the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12), Nonarthritic Hip Score (NAHS), and HSAS; after a 48-hour interval, they answered the HSAS-Brazil again. RESULTS: For test-retest reliability, the interclass correlation was 0.908 (P < 0.001). The HSAS-Brazil correlated to the NAHS-Brazil (r = 0.63, P < 0.001), as well as the SF-12 (Physical Health) (r = 0.42, P = 0.001). CONCLUSION: The HSAS-Brazil was validated and proved to be a reliable and valid scale to assess sports activity levels in physically active patients with FAI syndrome after arthroscopic treatment.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is defined as a slow, progressive, and apparently inevitable process of involuntary loss of muscle mass, strength, and quality, which occurs with advancing age. It is widely accepted that sarcopenia can directly affect quality of life. OBJECTIVE: Translate, adapt and validate the “Sarcopenia and Quality of Life” instrument (SarQoL) to the Brazilian context. DESIGN AND SETTINGS: Translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and validation study carried out at the Federal University of São Carlos, São Carlos, São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS: The population consisted of 221 older adult participants. The steps recommended by the guidelines from the authors of the original instrument were followed sequentially: initial translation, synthesis of translations, backward translation, evaluation by a panel of judges, pre-test, and analysis of psychometric properties. The translation and adaptation process was conducted as recommended. RESULTS: Two hundred and twenty-one participants took part in the step analysis of the psychometric properties of SarQoL, in which 55 presented sarcopenia. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the total SarQoL questionnaire was 0.976, indicating excellent internal consistency. Excellent agreements between the test and retest with an Interclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) of 0.983 (95% confidence interval: 0.901–0.996) were observed in the SarQoL domains. The domains of Short-Form 36 and EuroQoL 5-dimension showed significant correlation, from moderate to strong magnitude, with SarQoL total score, indicating convergent validity. CONCLUSION: The Brazilian version of SarQoL presented evidence of reliability and validity.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Colorectal cancer is the third most diagnosed malignant neoplasm in the world and the fourth leading cause of cancer mortality. The loss of muscle mass in oncological patients is the main aspect of cancer-related malnutrition. Associations between sarcopenia and poor outcomes, such as high postoperative mortality, chemotherapy toxicity, and reduced survival, have been recently described. The aim of this study was to prospectively assess the prevalence of preoperative sarcopenia in patients with colorectal cancer using validated methods to evaluate muscle strength, muscle mass, and physical performance. METHODOLOGY: This study included patients with colorectal cancer undergoing oncological staging at a Cancer Center in Brazil from May 2019 to March 2020 who had images from abdominal computed tomography available for analysis of body composition. The muscle strength test, physical performance, referred fatigue, and clinical and nutritional data were evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 31 patients were included, and most were diagnosed with colon cancer (77.4%) and clinical stage II in 41.9% of cases. The prevalence of probable sarcopenia was 22.6%; of these patients, sarcopenia was confirmed in 19.4%, and ultimately, 9.7% of the sample was classified as severe sarcopenia. We did not find a significant association between the presence of sarcopenia in our sample and age, sex, tumor staging, nutritional characteristics, referred patient fatigue, or postoperative complications. CONCLUSION: Considering the criteria established by the EWGSOP, the prevalence of preoperative sarcopenia in colorectal cancer patients was 19.4%.

AIM: to describe the methodology used in the study, the sample and the prevalence of symptoms in the acute phase of the infection according to socioeconomic variables. METHODS: cross-sectional study carried out in Rio Grande with individuals infected with covid-19 from December 2020 to March 2021. Nineteen symptoms present during the acute phase of the infection were investigated and analyzed, separately and in categories of “0-4”, “5-9” and “10 or more”, according to gender, age and economic class. RESULTS: 2,919 people were part of the sample. The most prevalent symptoms were fatigue (73.7%), headache (67.2%), loss of taste (65.9%), loss of smell (63.9%) and muscle pain (62.3% ). Regarding the occurrence of symptoms stratified by gender, all symptoms, except productive cough, were statistically higher in females. Regarding age, it was found that headache, pain/discomfort to breathe, loss of taste, loss of smell, fatigue, sore throat, nasal congestion, diarrhea, joint pain and muscle pain were statistically higher among adults (18 -59 years). As for economic class, the prevalence of symptoms of shortness of breath, pain/discomfort in breathing, alteration in sensitivity and joint pain showed a linear increase with the reduction in economic class. CONCLUSION: the results of this study made it possible to identify the most frequent symptoms in the acute phase of covid-19 and their distribution in groups, providing data for the implementation of public policies by managers and support for health professionals in assisting this population.

OBJETIVO: descrever a metodologia utilizada no estudo, a amostra e a prevalência dos sintomas da fase aguda da infecção de acordo com variáveis socioeconômicas. MÉTODOS: estudo transversal realizado em Rio Grande com indivíduos infectados pela covid-19 no período de dezembro de 2020 a março de 2021. Foram investigados 19 sintomas presentes durante a fase aguda da infecção e analisados, em separado e em categorias de “0-4”, “5-9” e “10 ou mais”, de acordo com sexo, idade e classe econômica. RESULTADOS: 2.919 pessoas fizeram parte da amostra. Os sintomas mais prevalentes foram fadiga (73,7%), dor de cabeça (67,2%), perda de paladar (65,9%), perda de olfato (63,9%) e dores musculares (62,3%). Com relação a ocorrência de sintomas estratificado por sexo, todos os sintomas, exceto tosse produtiva, foram estatisticamente maiores no sexo feminino. Referente à idade, verificou-se que dor de cabeça, dor/desconforto para respirar, perda de paladar, perda de olfato, fadiga, dor de garganta, congestão nasal, diarreia, dores articulares e dores musculares foram estatisticamente maiores entre os adultos (18-59 anos). Quanto a classe econômica, a prevalência dos sintomas falta de ar, dor/desconforto para respirar, alteração de sensibilidade e dores articulares apresentaram aumento linear conforme a redução da classe econômica. CONCLUSÃO: os resultados deste estudo permitiram identificar os sintomas mais frequentes na fase aguda da covid-19 e sua distribuição nos grupos, fornecendo dados para implementação de políticas públicas pelos gestores e respaldo para os profissionais de saúde na assistência a essa população.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a evolução temporal da anemia em crianças de seis a 59 meses em Pernambuco, com base nos inquéritos populacionais de 1997, 2006 e 2016 e os fatores associados à situação em 2016. Métodos: Os estudos de campo ocorreram nos domicílios dos participantes, na Região Metropolitana do Recife, interior urbano e rural. No estudo de tendência da anemia em crianças, utilizaram-se dados da II (40,9%) e III PESNs (Pesquisa Estadual de Saúde e Nutrição) (32,8%). Os dados da IV PESN foram coletados por formulários com famílias para verificação das condições socioeconomicas e individuais, bem como registros antropométricos, peso e altura, e bioquímicos, hemoblobina. Para o estudo de tendência temporal, utilizou-se o teste de tendência de proporção; e para os fatores associados a regressão de Poisson para testes de hipóteses. Estatisticamente considerou-se significante o valor p<0,05. Resultados: A prevalência de anemia, em 2016, foi de 24,2%, expressando uma diminuição significativa na ocorrência da doença. Nas crianças de 6–23 m., houve redução da II e III para IV PESN de 63 e 55,6 para 37,7% (p<0,001), respectivamente. Em 2016, as variáveis com significância estatística para a anemia em crianças foram a hemoglobina materna, a idade da criança, a ocorrência atual ou recente de diarreia e o índice P/I. Conclusão: Entre 1997 e 2016, houve redução da anemia, demostrando uma tendência epidemiológica que pode contribuir para melhoria contínua da saúde das crianças abaixo de cinco anos em Pernambuco.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the temporal evolution of anemia in children aged six to 59 months in Pernambuco, based on population surveys from 1997, 2006, and 2016 and the factors associated with the situation in 2016. Methods: The field studies took place in the participants’ households, in the Recife Metropolitan Area, as well as in the urban and rural inland. The trend study of anemia in children used data from the State Health and Nutrition Survey (Pesquisa Estadual de Saúde e Nutrição — PESN) II (40.9%) and III (32.8%). Data from PESN IV were collected using questionnaires administered to families to verify socioeconomic and individual conditions, as well as anthropometric — weight and height — and biochemical — hemoglobin — records. We adopted the test for trend in proportion for the time trend study and Poisson regression for hypothesis tests for the associated factors. Statistically significance was set at a p-value<0.05. Results: In 2016, the prevalence of anemia was 24.2%, indicating a significant reduction in disease incidence. In children aged 6–23 months, this number decreased from PENS II and III to PENS IV — 63 and 55.6 to 37.7% (p<0.001), respectively. In 2016, the statistically significant variables for anemia in children were maternal hemoglobin, child's age, current or recent case of diarrhea, and weight-for-age index Conclusion: Between 1997 and 2016, anemia rates decreased, showing an epidemiological trend that can contribute to continuously improve the health of children under five years of age in Pernambuco.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar se o teste do anel do leite (TAL), utilizado para o diagnóstico da brucelose em nível de rebanho leiteiro, pode ser realizado em amostras de leite com conservador (Bronopol®) coletado para contagem de células somáticas (CCS) que é utilizado para monitoramento de mastite. Foram analisadas 38 amostras de leite de tanques de expansão (ALTE) de 19 rebanhos leiteiros produtores de queijo artesanal e 36 ALTE de rebanho leiteiro livre de brucelose, utilizadas como controle negativo (CN) e controle positivo (CP), quando foi adicionado soro de animais vacinados. As amostras de leite foram coletadas em dois frascos diferentes (com e sem Bronopol®). Todos as 38 ALTE de produtores artesanais de queijo (amostras com e sem Bronopol®) foram não reagentes ao TAL, como todos os CN. Todos os CP foram reagentes ao TAL, sem interferência do Bronopol®. Os resultados mostraram que a amostra de leite utilizada para CCS apresentaram a proporção de concordância dos resultados em todas as amostras de leite (100%), ou seja, não foram observados resultados falso-positivos e falso-negativos. Os resultados indicam que o Bronopol® não interferiu na cor no momento da leitura do TAL, sugerindo que as mesmas amostras de leite poderiam ser usadas para monitorar mastite e brucelose.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated if the milk ring test (MRT) used to the brucellosis diagnostic at dairy herd level can be done in milk samples with conservative (Bronopol®) collected to the somatic cell count (SCC) that is used to mastitis monitoring. It were analyzed 38 bulk tank milk samples (BTMS) from 19 dairy herds artisanal cheese producers and 36 BTMS from a brucellosis free dairy herd, used as negative control (NC) and positive control (PC), when was added serum from vaccinated animals. The milk samples were collected in two different bottles (with or without Bronopol®). All the 38 BTMS from artisanal cheese producers (samples with and without Bronopol®) were non-reagent to MRT, as all NC. All PC were reagent to MRT, without interference of Bronopol®. Results showed that the milk sample used to SCC presented the proportion of agreement of results in all milk samples (100%), that is, false positive and false negative results were not observed. Results indicated that Bronopol® did not interfere with the color in the time of MRT reading suggesting that the same milk samples could be used to monitoring mastitis and brucellosis.
