2-(2-Furyl)-3-hydroxychromone (HL) reacts with MII ions in the formation of quadratic [Cu(L)2] (3), octahedral [M(L)2(OH2)2] (M = Co (1), Ni (2), Zn (4), Mn (5)) and seesaw [M(L)2] (M = Sn (6), Pb (7)) complexes. Recrystallization of complexes 1-3 in presence of pyridine lead to [M(L)2(py)2] (1a-3a) aducts. All compounds were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Complexes 1-7 were analyzed by UV-Vis and diffuse reflectance spectroscopies. The estimated band gap energies range from 2.90-3.15 eV. The crystal structure of complexes 6 and 7 revealed the influence of the stereochemically active lone pair due to their electronic configuration ns2. An intense fluorescence emission band centered at approximately 600 nm (λexc centered at 340 nm) has been observed for complex 6 in the solid state. In N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) solution, complex 6 showed two emission bands (468 and 538 nm) when excited from 300 to 380 nm, and only one emission band (468 nm) when excited from 385 to 420 nm.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have attracted the attention of the researchers as alternative solvents due to desirable properties such as easy preparation and high thermal stability. In this work, it was reported the preparation of five DESs from benzyltriethylammonium chloride (BTEAC) as quaternary ammonium salt (QAS) and carboxylic acids (oxalic, malonic or benzoic) as hydrogen bonding donor (HBD), which four were not reported so far. Furthermore, it was presented the first type III liquid DES at room temperature from benzoic acid and shown by interaction energy calculations why the formation of benzyltriethylammonium chloride:benzoic acid (BTEAC:BA) is favored over choline chloride:benzoic acid (ChCl:BA). The optimized geometries showed the Cl···π interaction is determining for decreasing the freezing point of benzyltriethylammonium chloride:benzoic acid mixture. Infrared spectra showed evidence for the existence of hydrogen bonds in DESs. Physical (freezing point, density and refractive index), thermal (thermogravimetric analysis) and rheological characterizations were performed for all solvents. The structure of HBDs affected the results on all evaluated properties and proved that it could be tunable. The prepared DESs were stable thermically and can be used in a wide range of temperature. Finally, rheological studies showed that Newtonian or non-Newtonian behavior can be observed by the nature of HBD.

Fingerprints are unique to each individual, contributing to human identification in forensic cases. The powder technique being widely used is considered one of the most important in latent fingermarks analysis. In this sense, the present work aimed to synthesize 1-thiocarbamoyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazoles and apply them as powder agents to develop latent fingermarks. The compounds were prepared from an effective and green synthesis via the condensation of chalcones with thiosemicarbazide in ethanol under microwave irradiation. Pyrazoles were tested and compared with a standard white powder (Sirchie®) on glass surfaces using sebaceous and natural fingermarks so that molecule 2c has been shown to be more promising providing image clarity. The derivatives of pyrazoles were promising as an alternative latent fingermark, presenting high quality images for fingermarks, proving to be a great tool for forensic sciences.

This work aims the synthesis of amidino pyrazolines by the cyclocondensation reaction between 3-(hetero)aryl-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)enones and aminoguanidine hydrochloride under sonochemical conditions. Thirteen new compounds were synthesized in 15-83% of yield after sonication for 30 min without purification by chromatography. Furthermore, antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were investigated by in vitro minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in a panel of four bacterial strains and four Candida yeasts. As result, the 5-(4-bromophenyl)-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carboximidamide hydrochloride was identified as the most active against gram-positive S. aureus and E. faecalis with MIC of 7.8 µg mL−1, similar to the value showed by chloramphenicol, which was used as standard.

A series of functionalized 1,1,1-trihalo-4-methoxy-3-alken-2-ones [CX3C(O)CR1=CROMe, where X = F or Cl; R = n-heptyl, n-octyl, n-nonyl, n-decyl, n-undecyl, n-tridecyl, (CH2)2CH=C(Me)2, (CH2)2Ph, (CH2)2-(4-HOC6H4), (CH2)2-(4-MeOC6H4), (CH2)2CO2Me, (CH2)3CO2Me, CH(SMe)CH3, CH2(2-MeOC6H4), and R1 = H, and R = H and R1 = n-decyl] were synthesized from respective alkyl methyl ketones or aldehyde via acetal acylation using trifluoroacetic anhydride and trichloroacetyl chloride. 1,1,1-Trihalo-4-methoxy-3-alken-2-ones with acid-compatible substituents were easily hydrolyzed to respective trihalomethyl-1,3-diketones. The 1,1,1-trihalo-4-methoxy-3-alken-2-ones and/or respective trihalomethyl-1,3-diketones were reacted regiospecifically with hydroxylamine hydrochloride, leading to isoxazole derivatives, and with hydrazines, leading to respective 1H-pyrazole derivatives. The structures of all compounds were assigned based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometric data. This method represents an efficient pathway for the regioselective trihaloacetylation of asymmetrically substituted alkyl methyl ketones and highly self-condensing aldehydes. Moreover, this approach allows the introduction of biologically recognizable moieties, such as those from levulinic acid, sulcatone (prenyl), benzylacetone, anisylacetone, and raspberry ketone, as synthetic molecular targets.

Resumo O objetivo desta pesquisa foi mensurar o comportamento ingestivo de novilhos terminados exclusivamente com concentrado contendo casca do grão de soja (moída) e/ou grão de aveia branca. Foram utilizados 32 novilhos, com predominâncias raciais Charolês ou Nelore. Os animais foram distribuídos ao acaso nos tratamentos, bloqueados conforme predominância genética e alocados em baias individuais. As dietas foram isonitrogenadas, sendo os tratamentos: Casca do grão de soja; Grão de aveia branca e a Mistura (partes iguais), acrescidos de calcário calcítico e núcleo proteico. Os animais que receberam dieta à base de casca de soja permaneceram mais tempo em ócio, comparados aos que receberam a mistura; estes, por sua vez, permaneceram mais tempo em ócio em relação aos que tiveram acesso à dieta à base de aveia branca. Os novilhos que consumiram dieta à base de casca de soja ruminaram menos tempo que os da mistura e estes, por sua vez, menos tempo que os novilhos alimentados à base de aveia branca. Dietas exclusivamente com concentrado à base de casca de soja, embora apresentem elevado teor de fibra solúvel em detergente neutro, não são suficientes para promover adequado comportamento ingestivo de novilhos de predominância racial Charolês ou Nelore.

Abstract The objective of this research was to measure the ingestive behavior of steers finished exclusively with concentrate containing soybean hulls (ground) and/or white oat grain.We used 32 steers with Charolais or Nellore predominance.The animals were randomly distributed in the treatments, blocked according to genetic predominance, and allocated in individual pens. Diets were isonitrogenous, being the treatments: Soybean hulls; White oat grain or the Mixture (equal parts), plus limestone and protein nucleus. Steers that received the diet based on soybean hulls remained more time in idle compared to the ones that received the mixture, and these remained more time in idle than the steers that received the diet based on white oat grain. Steers that received the diet based on soybean hulls ruminated less time than the steers fed the mixture, and these less time than those fed white oat grain. Exclusively concentrate diets based on soybean hulls although presenting high soluble fiber content in neutral detergent, are not sufficient to promote an appropriate ingestive behavior of steers of Charolais or Nelore racial predominance.

An electrophilic iodocyclization reaction involving alkynylated 2-iodoanisoles and molecular iodine in the presence of sodium bicarbonate was developed and diiodo-functionalized benzo[b]furans were obtained in yields from 45 to 99%.

3-(Thiophen-2-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carboximidamides were efficiently prepared through a cyclocondensation of thiophenylchalcones with aminoguanidine hydrochloride under ultrasonic conditions in the presence of KOH and ethanol as a green solvent in short reaction times (15-35 min) and good yields (62-95%). All compounds produced were evaluated against the human Jurkat and RS4;11 acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines of T- and B-cell origin, respectively, and the K562 myelogenous leukemia cell line. Six compounds presented half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values around 15 µmol L-1 and five compounds presented IC50 values around 40 µmol L-1 for at least one of the three cell lines analyzed. One compound was not significantly cytotoxic, presenting IC50 value > 100 µmol L-1.

A series of twelve novel 2-(pyrazol-1-yl)pyrimidine derivatives was easily obtained under ultrasonic conditions by the cyclocondensation reaction of 1-carboxamidino-pyrazoles with 4-methoxyvinyl-trifluoromethyl ketones using ethanol as an environment-friendly solvent in the presence of potassium hydroxide. Comparison of the ultrasound-promoted reaction with classical methodology shows that the former is faster and gives better yield. The products were isolated in excellent purity grades without purification by chromatography or recrystalization.

A reação de acoplamento entre 2,6-diiodoanisóis e alcinos terminais usando Pd(PPh3)2Cl2 e CuI como catalisadores e diisopropilamina como base em tolueno a temperatura ambiente por 12 h produziu seletivamente 2-iodoanisóis aquinilados, em rendimentos de bons a excelentes (52-95%), os quais são blocos de construção úteis com potencial aplicação na síntese de benzo[b]furanos funcionalizados.

The coupling reaction between 2,6-diiodoanisoles and terminal alkynes using Pd(PPh3)2Cl2 and CuI as catalysts and diisopropylamine as base in toluene at room temperature for 12 h produced selectively alkynylated 2-iodoanisoles, in good to excellent yields (52-95%), which are useful building blocks with potential application in the synthesis of functionalized benzo[b]furans.

Production parameters of intercropped pastures of oat and rye grass managed with beef heifers supplemented with brown rice meal and/or protected fat were evaluated. Twenty-eight Charolais × Nellore crossbred heifers at initial average age of 18 months and initial average live weight of 274.9 kg were utilized in the experiment. Animals were kept on oat + rye grass pastures and distributed in the following treatments: no-supplementation (NS): heifers kept only in pastures; Megalac (MEG): supplementation with protected fat; brown rice meal (BRM): supplementation with BRM; BRM + MEG: supplementation with BRM plus protected fat. The greater participation of oat leaf was from July 5th to August 10th, 2009 and of rye grass, from August 30th to September 26th, 2009. The crude protein content increased until the 55th day (225.1 g/kg). Pasture total digestible nutrients presented a cubic behavior, with an average of 722.0 g/kg. The highest supply of leaf blades, 5.17 kg of dry matter/100 kg of live weight, was found in the second period. Pasture intake increased throughout the periods. Forage mass and support capacity of the animal did not differ between treatments, presenting means of 1245.02 kg of dry matter/ha and 882 kg of live weight/ha, respectively. Stoking rate, forage loss and pasture intake were not affected by the treatments. Supplementation of beef heifers with rice meal and/or protected fat did not change production parameters of oat + rye grass pastures or pasture intake. Increase in daily accumulation rate of dry matter and supporting capacity of the animals increases forage losses.

Este trabalho mostra a síntese, em bons rendimentos (57-95%), de duas séries de 1-alquil(aril)amino-2-oxo-5-(2-oxo-3,3,3-trialopropiliden)-pirrolidinas 5 e 6, a partir dos intermediários 4-[alquil(aril)amino]-6-oxo-7,7,7-trialo-4-hepteno-atos de metila 3 e 4 obtidos por substituição da metoxila-beta nos precursores 4-metoxi-6-oxo-7,7,7-trialo-4-heptenoatos de metila 1 e 2, pela série de aminas primárias RNH2, onde R = PhCH2, PhCH2CH2, Ph, 4-MeC6H4, 4-MeOC6H4, 4-ClC6H4, 4-BrC6H4, 2-piridnil, 5-metil-3-isoxazolil, 4-NH2C6H4. A estrutura molecular dos produtos inéditos foi atribuída a partir dos dados de RMN ¹H, 13C e espectrometria de massas. A configuração geométrica dos compostos 3d e 5b foi confirmada pelos dados de difração de raios-X em monocristal.

Reactions of methyl 4-methoxy-6-oxo-7,7,7-trihalo-4-heptenoates 1 and 2 with primary amines RNH2, where R = PhCH2, PhCH2CH2, Ph, 4-MeC6H4, 4-MeOC6H4, 4-ClC6H4, 4-BrC6H4, 2-pyridyl, 5-methyl-3-isoxazolyl, 4-NH2C6H4 affording methyl 4-[alkyl(aryl)amino]-6-oxo-7,7,7-trihalo-4-heptenoates 3, 4, in good yields (57-95%), which suffer quantitative intramolecular cyclocondensation to produce 1-alkyl(aryl)-5-(2-oxo-3,3,3-trihalopropylidene)pyrrolidin-2-ones 5, 6, are reported. The structures of the isolated new products were assigned by means of ¹H,13C NMR measurements and mass spectrometry. The Z and E configuration of compounds 3d and 5b respectively were established from X-ray crystallography.

Neste trabalho é apresentada a síntese, em rendimentos razoáveis (50-67%), de novos sistemas biheterocíclicos, duas 6-(2-heteroaril)-4-trifluormetil-2-(1H)-pirimidinonas (2a,b) e uma série de dez 6-(2-heteroaril)-4-trifluormetilpirimidinas (3a,b -7a,b) a partir da ciclocondensação de 1,1,1-trifluor-4-(2-heteroaril)-4-metoxi-3-buten-2-onas com uréia e amidinas. As estruturas de todos os compostos foram atribuídas pelos dados de análise elementar, espectrometria de massas e dados de RMN ¹H e 13C. Os dados de RMN ¹H e 13C são mostrados de maneira sistemática. Também apresentamos os dados de difração de raios-X de um monocristal da 2-amino-6-(tien-2-il)-4-trifluormetilpirimidina (5b).

The synthesis of biheterocyclic systems 6-(2-furyl)-pyrimidines and 6-(2-thienyl)pyrimidines in reasonable yields (50-67%), two 6-(2-heteroaryl)-4-trifluoromethyl-2-(1H)pyrimidinones (2a,b) and a series of ten 6-(2-heteroaryl)-4-trifluoromethylpyrimidines (3a,b 7a,b) from the cyclocondensation of 1,1,1-trifluoro-4-(2-heteroaryl)-4-methoxy-3-buten-2-ones with urea and amidines is reported. Structures of all compounds have been elucidated by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry and ¹H, 13C NMR measurements. The ¹H and 13C NMR data are systematically reported. The X-ray diffraction data for monocrystal from 2-amino-4trifluoromethyl-6-(thien-2-yl)-pyrimidine (5b) are reported.
