ABSTRACT High-throughput phenotyping (HTP) using vegetation indices (VIs) is an important data source for managing plant breeding programs and can be a promising tool in indirect selection. This study hypothesized that VIs are correlated with agronomic traits in corn, and therefore, HTP can be an auxiliary tool for selecting superior genotypes. The objectives were: i) to analyze the association between agronomic traits and VIs, and ii) to identify superior corn hybrids for the evaluated traits using multivariate techniques. Ten corn hybrids (AGRI 330, AGRI 340, FS575PWU, KTZ006VP3, MG545AW, MG580PW, MG711PW, MZ1780, MZ1952, and TROPI 102) were evaluated for plant height (PH), stem diameter (SD), and grain yield (GY). The VIs studied were NDVI, NDRE, EVI, GNDVI, SAVI, and MSAVI. Pearson’s correlation network was constructed to analyze the relationship between the variables, and a canonical analysis was performed to verify the inter-relationship between the variables and hybrids. The VIs evaluated are strongly positively correlated with each other and with PH. The most productive hybrids are MG545AW, FS575PWU and KTZ006VP3. Hybrid MZ1952 has higher correlations with VIs and PH. The findings reveal that VIs can be excellent auxiliary variables for selecting agronomically superior genotypes, being a promising alternative to increase corn breeding efficiency.

Soybean is the most economically important oilseed in the world, being one of the main sources of oil and protein in human and animal food. The objective of this work was to select F3 segregating populations for agronomic and physiological traits and vegetation indices (VIs). The experiment was carried out in the 2018/2019 crop seasons in a randomized block design with three replicates and 10 F3 populations (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, P8, P9, and P10). The evaluated traits were as fallows: number of days to maturity (NDM); number of pods per plant (NPP); number of nodes per plant (NNP); number of lateral stems per plant (NSP); grain yield (GY); photosynthesis (A); stomatal conductance (gs); internal CO2 concentration (Ci); transpiration (E); NIR, Red-edge, Red and Green wavelengths; and NDVI and NDRE vegetation indices. Regarding the physiological traits evaluated in soybean F3 populations, the P8 and P6 populations presented the highest averages for photosynthesis, while the P3, P10, and P9 populations presented the highest Ci, E, and gs. For VIs evaluated in soybean F3 populations, the populations P7, P2, and P1 presented higher averages for NIR and Red-edge wavelengths. P5 and P4 showed a higher NDRE, and P8 showed a higher red wavelength. For agronomic traits, population P2 showed better results for the traits NNP and NSP. Populations P1 and P3 had a higher NDM. The P7 population presented the highest NPP, and the P6 population presented the highest GY.

La soja es la oleaginosa más importante económicamente en el mundo, siendo una de las principales fuentes de aceite y proteína en la alimentación humana y animal. El objetivo de este trabajo fue seleccionar las poblaciones segregantes de soja F3 en función de las características agronómicas y fisiológicas y los índices de vegetación. El experimento se llevó a cabo en la zafra de 2018/2019 con un diseño de bloques al azar con tres repeticiones y diez poblaciones F3 (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, P8, P9 y P10). Los caracteres evaluados fueron: número de días hasta la madurez (NDM); número de vainas por planta (NPP); número de nudos por planta (NNP); número de tallos laterales por planta (NSP); rendimiento de granos (GY); fotosíntesis (A); conductividad estomática (gs); concentración interna de CO2 (Ci); transpiración (E); bandas NIR, Red-edge, Rojo y Verde; y los índices de vegetación NDVI y NDRE. Para los caracteres fisiológicos evaluados, las poblaciones P8 y P6 tuvieron las medias más altas de A, y las poblaciones P3, P10 y P9 tuvieron los valores más altos de Ci, E y gs. Para los índices de vegetación evaluados, las poblaciones P7, P2 y P1 presentaron medias más altas para el NIR y Red-edge, conjuntamente con las poblaciones P5 y P4 que presentaron NDRE más altos y la población P8 presentó longitudes de onda Rojas más altas. Para los caracteres agronómicos, la población P2 mostró mejores resultados para NNP y NSP. Las poblaciones P1 y P3 obtuvieron un mayor NDM. La población P7 mostró mayor NPP, y la población P6 mayor GY.

Fungicide application for soybean rust control forced farmers to upgrade the techniques of pesticide application. This study aimed to compare the spray deposits obtained by two spray tips, flat fan and twin flat spray tip with air induction, with and without the presence of adjuvant in the tank solution, in three regions of the plant canopy and at two different crop growth stages. The soybean crop evaluated was P98Y11RR at growth stages R1 and R5.2. Leaf deposits of the spray mix containing Rhodamine B as tracer dye were recovered from the canopy stratum and analyzed. The use of double fan spray tip with air induction resulted in higher levels of droplet deposit in the upper canopy stratum of soybean plants in the R1 and R5.2 growth stages, and can also replace the standard flat fan tip with the same level of spray deposits on the lower canopy region. The use of adjuvant increased spray deposits in all sections of the plant, with both spray tips in the R1 growth stage.

La aplicación de fungicidas para el control de roya de la soja obligó a los agricultores a mejorar las técnicas de los métodos de aplicación de plaguicidas. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo comparar los depósitos de pulverización obtenidos por dos puntas de pulverización, abanico plano y la boquilla de pulverización plana doble con inducción de aire, con y sin la presencia de adyuvante en la solución del tanque, en tres regiones de la copa de la planta, ya las dos de crecimiento del cultivo diferentes etapas. La cosecha de soja P98Y11RR fue evaluado en las etapas de crecimiento R1 y R5.2. Los depósitos de la hoja de la mezcla de pulverización que contiene Rodamina B como colorante trazador se recuperaron a partir del estrato de dosel y analizados. Se concluyó que el uso de la punta de pulverización de doble ventilador con inducción de aire resultó en mayores niveles de depósito de gotas en el estrato de dosel superior de las plantas de soja en las etapas de crecimiento R1 y R5.2, y también puede reemplazar el consejo estándar de abanico plano con el mismo nivel de depósitos de aspersión en la región inferior del dosel. El uso de adyuvante aumenta los depósitos de aspersión en todas las secciones de la planta, a pesar de las puntas de pulverización utilizados, cuando la aplicación se produjo en la etapa de crecimiento R1.

O entendimento dos fatores que influenciam a produtividade é essencial para o sucesso produtivo e para adoção de manejo diferenciado em sítios específicos. Na busca de alternativas para predizer a produtividade de grãos de milho a partir de atributos do solo, uma alternativa consiste no uso de redes neurais artificiais (RNAs). Diante disso, o presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a eficácia de adoção de atributos do solo por interface da análise de regressão, e das RNAs no estabelecimento de sítios de manejo diferenciado e predição da produtividade de grãos de milho, “segunda safra”, em solos de cerrado. Os dados foram obtidos em uma área de 41,76 ha, cultivada em 2010 e 2011. Apesar de demandar maior tempo de construção e processamento em relação à regressão linear, a adoção de RNAs permite melhor predição da produtividade de grãos. Em consonância ao estabelecimento de sítios específicos de manejo diferenciado do solo, a partir dos atributos teor de argila, capacidade de troca de cátions, matéria orgânica do solo e saturação de bases.

The understanding of the factors influencing yield is essential for the crop success and adoption of site-specific management. The use of artificial neural networks (ANN) is an alternative of corn yield prediction from soil properties attributes. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of adoption of soil properties by interface of the regression analysis, and ANNs in the establishment of site-specific management zones and prediction of corn yield, second crop in Cerrado’s soil. Data were collected in an area of 41.76 ha cropped in 2010 and 2011. The adoption of ANNs allows better corn yield prediction despite of higher demand of construction time and processing when compared to linear regression. In consonance to the soil site-specific establishment from clay content, exchange cation capacity, organic matter and base soil saturation.

O pulverizador agrícola mais utilizado para determinar a eficiência e dosagens de agrotóxicos é o do tipo costal pressurizado por CO2, que permite a aplicação de pequenos volumes de agrotóxicos, exatamente na quantidade necessária para a aplicação em parcelas experimentais com áreas pequenas. Entretanto, estes pulverizadores não conseguem manter a pressão de trabalho por muito tempo de aplicação, ocasionando variação no volume de aplicação e no tamanho de gotas. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a variação da pressão no circuito hidráulico de um pulverizador costal pressurizado por CO2 e a influência do volume de calda no reservatório sobre o tamanho de gotas e o volume de aplicação. Utilizaram-se transdutores de pressão instalados no circuito de pressão hidráulica, os sinais elétricos foram gravados por um coletor de dados e o tamanho de gotas foi medido com o auxílio de papéis hidrossensíveis. Verificou-se que, durante a aplicação, houve diminuição da pressão no circuito hidráulico do pulverizador, independentemente do volume de calda no reservatório. A maior variação de pressão ocorreu com o volume de aplicação de 100,0 L ha-1, seguido de 150,0 L ha-1 e 200,0 L ha-1. Assim, quanto menor o volume de aplicação, maior foi a variação da pressão, não importando o volume de calda. O tamanho das gotas geradas aumentou com a diminuição da pressão do circuito hidráulico.

The most popular agricultural sprayer used to determine the effectiveness and dosage of pesticides is the backpack sprayer pressurized by CO2, which allows the application of small volumes of pesticides, on the exact amount needed in experimental plots with small areas. However, these sprayers cannot keep the working pressure for a long application time, affecting the application rate and drop size. This study aimed at evaluating the pressure changes on the hydraulic circuit of a backpack sprayer pressurized by CO2 and the influence of the tank spraying volume over the drop size and application rate. Pressure transducers were mounted on the hydraulic pressure circuit, the electrical signals were recorded by a data monitor and the drop size was measured with the aid of water sensitive paper. There was a reduction on the hydraulic circuit pressure of the sprayer, during the spraying, despite the volume used in the tank. The highest pressure variation occurred with the application rate of 100.0 L ha-1, followed by 150.0 L ha-1 and 200.0 L ha-1. Thus, the lowest application rate, the highest was the pressure variation, independently of the tank volume. The drop size increased according to the pressure reduction on the hydraulic circuit.

Os dados de sensoriamento remoto em campo podem fornecer informações detalhadas sobre a variabilidade de parâmetros biofísicos ligados à produtividade em grandes áreas e apresentam potencial para o monitoramento destes parâmetros, ao longo de todo o ciclo de desenvolvimento da cultura. Este trabalho objetivou mapear a variabilidade espacial do índice de vegetação da diferença normalizada (NDVI) e seus componentes, em duas lavouras comerciais de algodão (Gossipium hirsutum L.), utilizando sensor óptico ativo, em nível terrestre. Os dados foram coletados utilizando-se sensor instalado em um pulverizador autopropelido agrícola. Um receptor GPS foi acoplado ao sensor, para a obtenção das coordenadas dos pontos de amostragem. As leituras foram realizadas em faixas espaçadas em 21,0 m, aproveitando-se as passadas do veículo no momento da pulverização de agroquímicos, e os dados submetidos à análise estatística clássica e geoestatística. Mapas de distribuição espacial das variáveis foram elaborados pela interpolação por krigagem. Observou-se maior variabilidade espacial do NDVI e da reflectância espectral da vegetação na região do infravermelho próximo (IVP) (880 nm) e do visível (590 nm) na lavoura com maior estresse fisiológico, devido ao ataque do percevejo castanho [Scaptocoris castanea (Hem.: Cydnidae)], em relação à lavoura sadia.

The remote sensing data obtained at field level can provide detailed information about the variability of biophysical parameters related to yield over large areas, and present potential for monitoring these parameters throughout the crop development cycle. This study aimed to map the spatial variability of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and its components in two commercial cotton (Gossipium hirsutum L.) fields, by using an active optical sensor at the ground level. Data were collected with the aid of an optical sensor installed in a self-propelled agricultural sprayer. A GPS receiver was connected to the sensor, in order to obtain the coordinates of the sampling points. The readings were performed in rows spaced 21.0 m apart by the sensor installed on a vehicle, during the spraying operation, and data analyzed by using the classical statistics and geostatistics. Spatial distribution maps of the variables were generated by kriging interpolation. It was observed a higher spatial variability of NDVI and spectral reflectance of vegetation in the region of near infrared (NIR) (880 nm) and visible infrared (590 nm) in the crop with higher physiological stress, due to the brown bug [Scaptocoris castanea (Hem.: Cydnidae)] attack, when compared to the healthy one.
