ABSTRACT Purpose: Microperimetry has been used for several years as a form of visual function testing in patients with retinal diseases. Normal microperimetry values obtained with microperimeter MP-3 have not yet been fully published, and baseline values for topographic macular sensitivity and correlations with age and sex are needed to establish degrees of impairment. This study aimed to determine values for light sensitivity thresholds and fixation stability using the MP-3 in healthy individuals. Methods: Thirty-seven healthy volunteers (age, 28-68 years), underwent full-threshold microperimetry using a 4-2 (fast) staircase strategy with the standard Goldmann III stimulus size and 68 test points positioned identically to those in the Humphrey Field Analyzer 10-2 test grid. The fixation stability was simultaneously recorded during the microperimetry test. The relationship between global sensitivity and age was calculated using linear regression analysis. Results: Microperimetry was performed on 37 participants (74 eyes). The global mean sensitivity was 29.01 ± 1.44 (range, 26-31) dB. The mean central sensitivity at 2° measured by the MP-3 was 28.5 ± 1.77 dB in the right eye (OD) and 28.75 ± 1.98 dB in the left eye (OS). The total median fixation stability values within 2° and 4° were 80% and 96%, respectively. The linear regression analysis also revealed an age-related global sensitivity decline per year of -0.051 dB ± 0.018 (OD) and -0.078 dB ± 0.021 (OS). Conclusions: Microperimetry performed with the MP-3 allows for an automatic, accurate, and topography-specific examination of retinal sensitivity thresholds. The results of this study provide a normal and age-matched database of MP-3 microperimetry.

Resumo O ruído de impacto é um dos principais fatores de desconforto entre os usuários de edificações de múltiplos pavimentos. Assim, a realização desta pesquisa busca: determinar as propriedades acústicas de isolamento ao ruído de impacto no sistema de laje pré-fabricada nervurada composta de vigotas protendidas e lajotas cerâmicas, em três composições de montagem; avaliar o desempenho para ruído de impacto da técnica em piso flutuante sobre a laje, com uso de quinze materiais resilientes diferentes; comparar os resultados obtidos para as diversas composições de montagem com os critérios da norma de desempenho 15575-3:2013. Os ensaios foram realizados no laboratório da UFSM, em conformidade com parâmetros da ISO16283-2:2020 e ISO 717-2:2020, para determinar o nível de pressão sonora de impacto padrão ponderado ( L' nT,w ) de cada composição ensaiada. Pode-se concluir que a tipologia construtiva, com contrapiso de 4 cm e revestimento cerâmico, necessita de tratamento acústico para se enquadrar na normativa brasileira, e que a utilização da técnica em piso flutuante se apresenta como uma boa solução, visto que a grande maioria das composições com materiais resilientes alcança nível intermediário da norma entre 56 dB e 65 dB.

Abstract Impact noise is one of the main discomfort factors among users of multi-storey buildings. Thus, this research seeks to: determine the acoustic properties of insulation against impact noise in the prefabricated ribbed slab system, composed of prestressed joists and ceramic blocks in three montage compositions, evaluate the performance of insulation against impact noise of the technique on floating floor over the slab, using fifteen different resilient materials, and compare the results obtained for the various compositions with the Brazilian criteria of performance standard 15575-3:2013. The tests were carried out in the UFSM laboratory, in accordance with ISO 140-7 parameters updated to ISO 16283-2:2020, and ISO 717-2:2020, to determine the weighted standard impact sound pressure level ( L' nT,w ) of each composition tested. It can be concluded that the constructive typology, with a 4 cm subfloor and ceramic coating, needs acoustic treatment to fit the Brazilian regulations, and that the use of the floating floor technique is a good solution, since the great majority compositions with resilient materials reach an intermediate level of the standard between 56 and 65 dB.

Resumo Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo discutir e determinar valores de desempenho acústico para ruído de impacto (L' nTw ), para 39 composições de sistemas de pisos, com diferentes materiais resilientes e acabamento de pisos laminados de madeira, a metodologia organiza-se conforme a ISO 16283-2, ISO 717-2 e NBR 15575-3 para classificação. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que a laje pré-fabricada nervurada com vigotas protendidas e tavelas cerâmicas e o sistema de laje e contrapiso não atingem os requisitos mínimos de isolamento acústico, com valores de 91 e 84 dB respectivamente. Dentre as outras 37 amostras, vale ressaltar que pisos laminados de madeira com melhor resistência à abrasão são mais eficientes em relação ao desempenho acústico, com valores de isolamento de ruído de impacto variando de 60 a 62 dB, devido sua densidade superficial. Nas amostras que usam materiais resilientes, os valores de desempenho variam de 55 a 46 dB.

Abstract This research aims to discuss and determine acoustic performance values for impact noise insulation (L’nT,w) for 39 floor system compositions that have different resilient materials and wooden laminate floor finishing. The methodology is organized according to ISO 16283-2, ISO 717-2 and NBR 15575-3 for classification. The results obtained demonstrate that the prefabricated ribbed slab with prestressed joists and ceramic slabs, as well as the slab and subfloor system do not meet the minimum requirements for acoustic insulation, comprising values of 91 and 84 dB, respectively. Among the other 37 samples, it is worth mentioning that wooden laminate floors with better abrasion resistance is more efficient concerning acoustic performance, comprising impact noise insulation values ranging from 60 to 62 dB, due to its surface density. In the samples that use resilient materials, the performance values vary from 55 to 46 dB.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the biometric and productive characteristics of carrot (Daucus carota L.) under different irrigation levels and soil covers. Experiments were carried out at the Federal University of Viçosa in 2019 and 2020, to evaluate the effect of five irrigation levels (20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% of the daily irrigation depth) and soil coverings (control, plastic mulching, and paper mulching), on the variables soil moisture (U), actual water consumption (AWC), root length (R) and diameter (D), leaf height (H) and temperature (T), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), yield (Y) and dry root biomass (DB). Irrigation management was performed with tensiometers. There was no significant interaction (P < 0.05) between the factors. Irrigation significantly influenced D, H, T, NDVI, Y, and DB, while the soil cover treatment affected R, D, H, NDVI, Y, and DB. The highest yields were found in 100% irrigation (34.89 t ha-1) and with paper mulching (30.55 t ha-1). The results can guide future adaptations to the carrot production system currently in force in Brazil. As for biometric characteristics, yield, and sustainability in the use of water for irrigation were studied.

Abstract In this paper, the authors present a proposal for an application of electromagnetic bandgap (EBG), for suppression of grating lobes, in frequency selective surfaces (FSS), not yet studied in the literature. An alternative type of EBG with square holes was proposed to reduce the computational effort in simulations. The study consists of an application of a rectangular periodic array of cylindrical and square holes in FSS dielectric substrate to create rejection bands and suppress specific resonant frequency modes. We built four prototypes and compared measured results with simulated results obtained with ANSYS HFSS. Simulations and measurements show suppression levels up to 6 dB. A good agreement between the results is observed. The FSS with EBG with square holes allows a simulation time 70 % lower than FSS with EBG with cylindrical holes.

RESUMO Objetivo: realizar a gravação da “Lista de palavras como procedimento de avaliação da percepção dos sons da fala para crianças deficientes auditivas”, a qual é padronizada para aplicação à viva-voz, e verificar sua aplicabilidade. Métodos: gravação: utilizou-se critérios acústicos, três gravações de cada palavra e análise de juízes. A lista foi gravada na condição de silêncio a 60 decibéis (dB) e ruído relação sinal/ruído + 10 dB. Participantes: 30 crianças com idade entre cinco e 10 anos e 11 meses, sem alterações auditivas e de linguagem. Procedimento realizado nas condições viva voz e gravação. Foram aplicados os testes estatísticos Wilcoxon, t pareado e coeficiente de correlação de Spearman (valor de p significante menor ou igual a 0,05). Resultados: a comparação do desempenho para reconhecimento de fonemas e palavras entre as situações viva voz e gravação resultou em diferença estatisticamente significativa (p ≤ 0,05) em todas condições analisadas. Os resultados foram superiores na situação de silêncio. Não houve diferença significativa entre o tempo de aplicação na condição gravada comparando com silêncio e ruído (p=0,064). Conclusão: a gravação e aplicação do procedimento da lista que analisa reconhecimento de palavras e fonemas mostrou-se viável na condição de gravação no silêncio e ruído.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to record the “List of Words to Evaluate the Speech Perception of Children with Hearing Loss” which is standardized for live speech presentation and verify its clinical applicability. Methods: recording: acoustic standards were used, three recordings of each word and analysis by judges. The list was recorded in silence at 60 decibels (dB) and signal noise relation of +10 dB. Participants: 30 children in the age range from five years to 10 years and 11 months, with no auditory and language disorders. The procedure was performed in live and recorded speech. Wilcoxon’s, paired t and Spearman’s correlation coefficient tests (p-value significantly less or equal to 0.05), were applied. Results: the comparison of performance for recognition of words and phonemes between live and recorded speech resulted in a statistically significant difference (p ≤ 0.05), in all conditions analyzed. The results were higher in the silence condition. There was no statistically significant difference between the time of application in the recorded speech when compared in silence and noise (p=0.064). Conclusion: the recording and application of the procedure that analyzes recognition of phonemes and words proved to be viable in recorded speech in silence and noise.

RESUMO Investigou-se a formação de classes equivalentes a partir de estruturas de treino de discriminações condicionais que correspondem a relações emergentes mutuamente excludentes. Participaram um total de 10 universitários distribuídos em dois experimentos. As relações treinadas foram B1A1, B2A2, B3A3, D1C1, D2C2, D3C3, B1C2, B2C1, B3C3, D1A1, D2A2 e D3A3. Foram testadas as relações AC, CA, BD e DB. O Experimento II diferiu-se do Experimento I por incluir uma revisão das relações de treino. Os resultados sugerem a formação de classes para sete dos 10 participantes, sem diferenças significativas entre os experimentos. Contudo, foram estabelecidas diferentes classes para os participantes de ambos os experimentos, sugerindo que a ordem de treino não foi suficiente para determinar quais classes de equivalência seriam formadas.

ABSTRACT This study investigated equivalence classes formation from conditional discrimination training structures that correspond to mutually exclusive emerging relationships. A total of 10 college students participated in two experiments. Trained relations were B1A1, B2A2, B3A3, D1C1, D2C2, D3C3, B1C2, B2C1, B3C3, D1A1, D2A2 and D3A3. Relations AC, CA, BD and DB were tested. Experiment II differed from Experiment I in that it included a review of training relations. The results indicated class formation for seven of the 10 participants, without significant differences between the experiments. However, different classes were established for the participants of both experiments, suggesting that the training order was not enough to determine which equivalence classes would be formed.

Introdução: A Doença de Behçet (DB) é uma vasculite multissistémica, de diagnóstico apenas clínico, e rara em idade pediátrica. Caso Clínico: Adolescente de 17 anos com úlceras aftosas orais de repetição desde há quatro anos, sem outros sinais ou sintomas associados. Hipóteses diagnósticas como infecções, hipovitaminoses, alergia alimentar e doença celíaca foram excluídas. O diagnóstico de DB foi também ponderado, tendo realizado teste de patergia, com resultado negativo. Aos 16 anos, a doente apresenta lesões papulopustulares mentonianas, indistinguíveis de acne vulgar, e aos 17 anos, um episódio de úlceras genitais. Foi referenciada a Reumatologia pediátrica e, perante um provável diagnóstico de DB, iniciou colchicina oral, com redução do número e da recorrência das úlceras aftosas orais. Discussão: A adolescente poderá apresentar critérios suficientes para se diagnosticar DB. Este caso exemplifica a importância do acompanhamento contínuo dos doentes, realça o carácter insidioso de algumas doenças reumáticas e a dificuldade de diagnosticar DB em idade pediátrica.

Introduction: Behçet’s disease (BD) is a chronic multisystem disorder. The diagnosis is made only by using diagnostic criteria and children are rarely affected. Case report: A 17-years-old adolescent with recurrent oral aphthous ulcers since 13 years of age, without any other symptoms. Differential diagnoses such as infections, hypovitaminosis, food allergy and celiac disease were excluded. In order to diagnose Behçet’s disease, the pathergy test was done and it was negative. At the age of 16, the adolescent developed facial papulopustules and acneiform nodules, undistinguishable from acne, and at 17 years of age, she developed a genital aphthous ulceration. The patient was sent to a pediatric rheumatology physician, and, considering a likely BD, started a treatment with oral colchicine, with reduction of the number and recurrence of oral aphthous ulcers. This patient has clinical criteria to be diagnosed with BD. Discussion: This clinical report is a reminder of how important it is to continuously follow patients because of the insidious character of some diseases, including rheumatic, and highlights that BD can be hard to diagnosis in the paediatric population.

INTRODUÇÃO: Estudo clínico e experimental. Indivíduos com audição normal podem ser prejudicados em situações de comunicação desfavoráveis, o que interfere negativamente na inteligibilidade de fala. OBJETIVO: Verificar e comparar o desempenho de adultos jovens, normo-ouvintes, com e sem queixa clínica de dificuldade para entender a fala no ruído, utilizando sentenças como estímulo. MÉTODO: Foram avaliados 50 indivíduos, 21 do sexo masculino e 29 do feminino, com idades entre 19 e 32 anos, normoouvintes, divididos em dois grupos: sem e com queixa clínica de dificuldade de entender a fala no ruído. Utilizando o teste Listas de Sentenças em Português, realizou-se a pesquisa dos Limiares de Reconhecimento de Sentenças no Ruído, com os quais foram obtidas as relações sinal-ruído (S/R). O ruído competitivo foi apresentado a 65 dB NA. RESULTADOS: Os valores médios obtidos para as relações S/R na orelha direita, para o grupo sem queixa e o grupo com queixa, foram respectivamente -6,26 dB e -3,62 dB. Para a orelha esquerda, foram -7,12 dB e -4,12 dB. Foi verificada diferença estatisticamente significante tanto na orelha direita quanto na esquerda entre os dois grupos. CONCLUSÃO: Indivíduos normo-ouvintes com queixa clínica de dificuldade de entender a fala em ambientes ruidosos possuem maior dificuldade na tarefa de reconhecimento de sentenças no ruído quando comparados a sujeitos que não relatam essa dificuldade. Assim deve-se incluir na avaliação audiológica de rotina testes que empregam sentenças na presença de ruído competitivo, avaliando de forma mais confiável e eficiente o desempenho do reconhecimento de fala.

INTRODUCTION: Clinical and experimental study. Individuals with a normal hearing can be jeopardized in adverse communication situations, what negatively interferes with speech clearness. OBJECTIVE: check and compare the performance of normal hearing young adults who have a difficulty in understanding speech during noise or not, by making use of sentences as stimuli. METHOD: 50 normal hearing individuals, 21 of whom were male and 29 were female, aged between 19 and 32, were evaluated and divided into two groups: with and without a clinical complaint about understanding speech during noise. By using Portuguese Sentence Lists test, the Recognition Threshold of Sentences during Noise research was performed, through which the signal-to-noise (SN) ratios were obtained. The contrasting noise was introduced at 65 dB NA. RESULTS: the average values achieved for SN ratios in the left ear, for the group without a complaint and the group with a complaint, were respectively 6. 26 dB and 3. 62 dB. For the left ear, the values were -7. 12 dB and -4. 12 dB. A statistically significant difference was noticed in both right and left ears of the two groups. CONCLUSION: normal hearing individuals showing a clinical complaint about understanding speech at noisy places have more difficulty in the task to recognize sentences during noise, in comparison with the people who do not face such a difficulty. Accordingly, the customary audiologic evaluation must include tests using sentences during a contrasting noise, with a view to evaluating the speech recognition performance more reliably and efficiently.

Active-Passive Piezoelectric Networks (APPN) integrate active voltage sources with passive resistance-inductance shunt circuits to a piezoelectric patch. This technique allows to simultaneously passively dissipate vibratory energy through the shunt circuit and actively control the structural vibrations. This work presents an analysis of active-passive damping performance of beams with extension and shear APPN. A coupled finite element model with mechanical and electrical degrees of freedom is developed and used to design passive and active control parameters. Then, stochastic modeling and analyses of two cantilever beam configurations, with extension and shear APPN, are performed to evaluate the effect of uncertainties in circuit components on passive and active-passive vibration control. Results show that active-passive shunt circuits can be very interesting since they may combine an adequate passive control performance with an increase of active control authority when a control voltage is applied to the circuit. For the extension configuration, vibration amplitude reductions of up to 22 dB and 28 dB are obtained for passive and active-passive cases, respectively. Considering relative dispersions of 10% for the resistance and inductance values, the passive and active-passive amplitude reductions are found to be in the ranges 16-24 dB and 27-28 dB, respectively. For the shear configuration, increases in the active control authority of up to 29 dB due to a properly tuned resonant circuit are observed. When subjected to uncertainties in the resistance and inductance values, with 10% relative dispersions, the control authority increase is in the range of 6-29 dB.

RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar a existência de associação entre presença/ausência de habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral no período neonatal bem como o desenvolvimento do processamento auditivo. Métodos: Pesquisou-se a ocorrência de habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral em 33 neonatos neurologicamente normais, os quais, entre 9 e 25 meses de idade, tiveram suas respostas comportamentais avaliadas e classificadas segundo Azevedo (1993). A habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral foi verificada utilizando-se estímulo sonoro de aproximadamente 90 dB. A etapa do desenvolvimento do processamento auditivo foi avaliada com estímulo sonoro aproximado de 41 dB. A análise estatística dos dados foi realizada por meio dos testes Fischer e χ2. Resultados: Das 33 crianças estudadas, 22 evidenciaram habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral na primeira etapa do estudo. A etapa do processamento auditivo de 7 delas foi considerada adequada à idade cronológica e de 15 inadequada. Onze crianças não evidenciaram habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral na primeira etapa do estudo. Desse grupo, oito crianças manifestaram respostas auditivas adequadas para a idade cronológica e três inadequadas. Verificou-se associação estatisticamente significante entre presença de habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral e atraso nas etapas do processamento auditivo, e também entre ausência de habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral e respostas adequadas à idade cronológica. Conclusões: A presença de habituação do reflexo cócleo-palpebral no período neonatal parece não ser fator preditivo do adequado desenvolvimento do processamento auditivo.

ABSTRACT Objective: To check the existence of an association between the presence/absence of the blink reflex habituation in the neonatal period and auditory processing development. Methods: The occurrence of blink reflex habituation was studied in 33 neurologically normal neonates, aged between 9 and 25 months, who had their behavioral responses analyzed and classified according to Azevedo (1993). Habituation of the blink reflex was verified using 90-dB sound stimulus. The stage of auditory processing development was evaluated through 41-dB sound stimulus. Statistical data were analyzed with Fischer and χ2 tests. Results: Out of the 33 studied children, 22 presented blink reflex habituation in the first stage of the study. In 7 of them, the auditory processing stage matched their chronological age, while in 15 of them the auditory processing stage was not in accordance with their chronological age. Eleven children failed to present habituation of the blink reflex in the first stage of the study. From this group, eight children presented auditory responses that were appropriate to their chronological age, whereas three had inappropriate responses. A statistically significant association between the presence of blink reflex habituation and auditory processing delay was verified, in addition to an association between the absence of the blink reflex habituation and chronologically suitable responses. Conclusions: The presence of blink reflex habituation in the neonatal period does not seem to be a predictive factor of suitable auditory processing.

O Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Tronco Encefálico (PEATE) é um teste de grande importância na detecção precoce de alterações auditivas em crianças. OBJETIVOS: Analisar as respostas de neonatos e lactentes termos e prematuros para o PEATE, considerando gênero e orelha. MATERIAL E MÉTODOS: Estudo de coorte transversal e prospectivo. Foram avaliados 36 lactentes termos e 30 prematuros sem indicadores de risco para perda auditiva além da prematuridade,que permaneceram no alojamento conjunto, passaram nas Emissões Otoacústicas Transientes e apresentaram curva timpanométrica tipo A. As avaliações ocorreram entre a alta hospitalar e o terceiro mês de vida, sendo constituídas por anamnese, medidas de imitância acústica e pelo PEATE. RESULTADOS: Na comparação das latências absolutas e interpicos das ondas I, III e V quanto às orelhas direita e esquerda observou-se diferença estatisticamente significante para o interpico I-III. Quanto ao gênero masculino e feminino, não houve diferença significante. Na comparação entre prematuros e termos observou-se diferença significante para as latências absolutas das ondas I, III e V em 80 dB e da onda V em 60 e 20 dB. Verificou-se correlação inversa entre idade gestacional e latências absolutas. CONCLUSÃO: A maturação do sistema auditivo influencia as respostas do PEATE de lactentes. Para evitar a interpretação equivocada dos resultados deve-se considerar a idade gestacional na análise do PEATE nessa população.

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) is important for the early diagnosis of hearing impairment in infants. AIM: To compare ABR responses in full-term and premature infants; gender and ear were taken into account. METHODS: A cross-sectional prospective cohort study was carried out. We evaluated 36 full-term and 30 premature infants that had passed the Transient Otoacoustic Emissions test, had type A tympanometric curves, and had no risk factor for hearing loss besides prematurity. The evaluations were done from the time of hospital discharge to the third month of life, and consisted of a clinical history, acoustic immittance testing and ABR evaluation. RESULTS: The comparison of absolute and interpeak wave I, III and V latencies in right and left ears revealed a statistically significant difference at the interpeak I-III. There was no significant gender differences in the comparison of results. Significant difference in wave I, III and V absolute latencies at 80 dB and in wave V at 60 db and 20 db were observed in a comparison of absolute and interpeak latencies between full-term and premature infants. An inverse correlation was found between age and absolute latencies. CONCLUSIONS: The maturity of the auditory system influences ABR responses in infants. To avoid misinterpretation of results, gestational age must be taken into account in the analysis of ABR in pediatric population.

Cochlospermum regium (Mart. & Schr.) Pilger, conhecido popularmente como "algodãozinho-do-campo", é uma planta medicinal que cresce no Cerrado brasileiro. Esta planta tem sido utilizada na medicina tradicional contra várias doenças como leucorréia, gastrites e úlceras. Esta também tem se mostrado efetiva no tratamento de doenças de pele como espinhas, furúnculos e manchas. No presente estudo, foi avaliada a antimutagenicidade do extrato aquoso de C. regium pelo Teste do Micronúcleo in vivo. Este ensaio foi realizado em eritrócitos policromáticos de camundongos machos Swiss tratados com quatro concentrações diferentes do extrato da planta (19, 38, 76 e 114 mg.kg-1 por peso corpóreo), administrado por injeção intraperitonial (i.p.) simultaneamente com ciclofosfamida (24 mg.kg-1 p.c.) ou mitomicina C (4 mg.kg-1 p.c.). A citotoxicidade foi avaliada pela razão eritrócitos policromáticos e normocromáticos (PCE/NCE). Os resultados obtidos não mostraram redução significativa da freqüência de eritrócitos policromáticos micronucleados (P > 0,05). Em conclusão, os resultados indicam que o extrato aquoso de raiz de C. regium, para as condições utilizadas, não exibiu efeito antimutagênico.

Cochlospermum regium (Mart. and Schr.) Pilger, popularly known as "algodãozinho do campo", is a medicinal plant that grows in the Cerrado of Brazil. This plant has been used in traditional medicine against various diseases such as leucorrhoea, gastritis and ulcers. It has also been effective in treating skin problems like pimples, boils and blotches. In the present study, the in vivo antimutagenicity of aqueous extract of C. regium was evaluated. The Micronucleus Test was performed in polychromatic erythrocytes from Swiss male mice treated with one of the four doses of extract of the plant (19, 38, 76 and 114 mg.kg-1 body weight), administered by intraperitonial injection (i.p.) simultaneously with cyclophosphamide (24 mg.kg-1 b.w.) or mitomycin C (4 mg.kg-1 b.w.). The cytotoxicity was evaluated by polychromatic and normochromatic erythrocytes ratio (PCE/NCE). The results showed no significant reduction of the micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes frequency (P > 0.05). In conclusion, the data indicate that C. regium roots aqueous extract, for the conditions used, did not exhibit the antimutagenic effect.

OBJETIVO: Determinar, utilizando o autoperímetro Octopus 1-2-3, os valores da sensibilidade retiniana em dB, nos 26 graus centrais do campo visual, em voluntários normais, distribuídos em grupos etários homogêneos. Comparar os valores da sensibilidade retiniana com aqueles considerados normais no pacote estatístico do programa do autoperímetro Octopus 1-2-3 obtidos por estudo multicêntrico realizado em 1994. MÉTODOS: Avaliaram-se 181 voluntários, distribuídos em seis grupos etários homogêneos: 10 a 19; 20 a 29; 30 a 39; 40 a 49; 50 a 59 e 60 e mais anos. Foram calculados dados relativos à sensibilidade visual e idade, sensibilidade média nas regiões central e paracentral e influência da excentricidade. RESULTADOS: A sensibilidade visual média de todos os grupos foi de 26,77 dB (desvio-padrão de 1,74 dB). A relação entre sensibilidade visual e idade avaliada pela regressão linear foi de 28,4 - 0,04 x (idade) para toda a amostra e de 28,7 - 0,05 x (idade) para maiores de 19 anos. A redução da sensibilidade com a excentricidade foi de -0,30 dB/grau para toda a amostra e de -0,30 dB/grau para maiores de 19 anos. CONCLUSÕES: Os valores da sensibilidade retiniana encontrados neste estudo: 28,4 - 0,04 x (idade) para toda a amostra e 28,7 - 0,05 x (idade) para maiores de 19 anos são diferentes daqueles utilizados nos autoperímetros Octopus e, a rigor, não podem ser comparados aos obtidos nos outros modelos Octopus (101, 201 e 500) em face das suas distintas características.

PURPOSE: To determine the values in decibels of retinal sensitivity within the central 26 degrees of the visual field of normal subjects divided into homogenous age groups using the Octopus 1-2-3; to compare the values of retinal sensitivity we have found with those considered normal in the statistical package obtained by a multicenter study performed in 1994 with Octopus 201. METHODS: 181 subjects divided into 6 homogeneous age groups (10 to 19 yr; 20 to 29 yr; 30 to 39 yr; 40 to 49 yr; 50 to 59 yr and 60 year-old or older) were evaluated. Data on visual sensitivity and age, average sensitivity of central and paracentral regions and eccentricity were calculated. RESULTS: The average visual sensitivity of all groups was 26.77 ± 1.74 dB. Correlation between visual sensitivity and age evaluated by linear regression was 28.4 - 0.040 x (age) for the whole sample and 28.7 - 0.050 x (age) for subjects aged 20 or more. Sensitivity reduction by eccentricity was -0.30 dB/degree for the whole sample and for subjects aged 20 or more. CONCLUSIONS: Correlation between retinal sensitivity values and age based on the autoperimeter Octopus 201 (average sensitivity of 31.2 - 0.064 x age) is different from that found in this study: average sensitivity of 28.4 - 0.040 x (age) for the whole sample; 28.7 - 0.050 x (age) for subjects aged 20 or more. Values obtained with the Octopus 1-2-3 autoperimeter cannot be compared with those by other Octopus models (101, 201 and 500) due to their distinct features.
