RESUMO Introdução Aplicação do método de aprendizagem baseada em problemas (PBL) ao ensino da fisiologia do esporte. Objetivos Este estudo explorou o mecanismo do método PBL para ampliar o interesse e a eficácia da aprendizagem dos estudantes. Métodos Vinte estudantes do sexo masculino da Faculdade de Educação Física da Universidade Hubei Minzu foram divididos randomicamente em um grupo PBL (10) e um grupo de método de ensino tradicional (TTM). Durante o teste, os participantes do grupo TTM ficaram sentados e em silêncio ouvindo o professor experiente, enquanto os do grupo PBL ficaram sentados e participaram de uma discussão em grupo de 20 minutos de acordo com a orientação do mesmo professor. A pressão parcial do oxigênio transcutâneo (TcPO2), a perfusão sanguínea microcirculatória (MPB) e a potência das bandas alfa e beta foram monitoradas no início e durante o teste. Resultados A média do escore do questionário do grupo PBL foi significativamente maior do que a do grupo TTM. No grupo PBL, o poder alfa dos estudantes diminuiu em termos estatísticos nos canais F3, T3, P3 e O1 e o poder beta dos estudantes aumentou nos canais F7, F3, T3, C3, P3 e O1 em comparação com os valores basais. Conclusão O PBL pode ser um mecanismo eficaz de aprendizagem, uma vez que os estudantes ficam ativamente engajados no ensino da fisiologia do esporte. ABSTRACT Introduction Applying the problem-based learning (PBL) method to the teaching of sports physiology. Objective This study explored the mechanism of the PBL method to improve the interest and learning effectiveness of students. Methods Twenty male students at the Physical Education College of Hubei Minzu University were randomly divided into a PBL group (10) and a traditional teaching method group (TTM). During the test, the subjects in the TTM group sat quietly listening to the experienced teacher, while the subjects in PBL group sat quietly and participated in a 20-minute group discussion under the guidance of the experienced teacher. Transcutaneous partial pressure of oxygen (TcPO2), microcirculatory blood perfusion (MBP), and alpha- and beta-band power were monitored at the beginning of and during the test. Results The mean of the PBL-group quiz score was significantly higher than that of the TTM group. In the PBL group, the alpha power of the students decreased statistically in the F3, T3, P3, and O1 channels and the beta power of the students increased statistically in the F7, F3, T3, C3, P3, and O1 as compared to the baseline values. Conclusion PBL can be an effective learning mechanism, since the students are actively engaged in the teaching of sports physiology. RESUMEN Introducción Aplicación del método de Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas (PBL), a la enseñanza de la fisiología del deporte. Objetivos Este estudio exploró el mecanismo del método PBL para ampliar el interés y la eficacia del aprendizaje de los estudiantes. Métodos Veinte estudiantes varones de la Facultad de Educación Física de la Universidad de Hubei Minzu fueron divididos aleatoriamente en el grupo PBL (10) y en un grupo de método de enseñanza tradicional (TTM). Durante la prueba, los participantes del grupo TTM permanecieron sentados y escuchando en silencio al profesor experimentado, mientras que los del grupo PBL permanecieron sentados y participaron en un debate de grupo de 20 minutos de acuerdo con la orientación del mismo profesor. La presión parcial de oxígeno transcutáneo (TcpO2), la perfusión sanguínea microcirculatoria (MBP) y la potencia de las bandas alfa y beta se monitorizaron al inicio y durante la prueba. Resultados La puntuación media del cuestionario del grupo PBL fue significativamente mayor que la del grupo TTM. En el grupo PBL, la potencia alfa de los estudiantes disminuyó estadísticamente en los canales F3, T3, P3 y O1 y la potencia beta de los estudiantes aumentó en los canales F7, F3, T3, C3, P3 y O1 en comparación con los valores de referencia. Conclusión El PBL puede ser un mecanismo de aprendizaje eficaz, ya que los estudiantes participan activamente en la enseñanza de la fisiología del deporte. Abstract Objective: As a greater proportion of patients survived their initial cardiac insult, Chronic Heart Failure (CHF) is becoming a major cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality. However, the mechanism underlying the inflammation in patients with CHF has not yet been elaborated. This study aims to explore the associations between inflammation and CHF patients, and the predictive performance of inflammatory indicators in identifying patients with CHF. Methods: A matched case-control study was conducted by recruiting 385 patients who were diagnosed with CHF from January 2018 to December 2019 in The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. Each CHF patient was matched against one control subject without CHF on the criteria of age, sex, Body Mass Index (BMI), smoking status, and comorbidities. The clinical data and systemic inflammatory indicators were compared between the two groups, independent risk factors of CHF were identified by multivariate regression analysis, and the predictive values of systemic inflammatory indicators for CHF were analyzed by Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results: After processed in the univariate and multivariate regression analysis models, three systemic inflammatory indicators (hs-CRP [high sensitivity C Reactive Protein], LMR [lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio], and Monocyte-to-High-density-lipoprotein Ratio [MHR]) were considered as independent predictors of CHF, among which the hs-CRP exhibited the best predictive performance (AUC = 0.752, 95%CI 0.717‒0.786, p < 0.001), followed by LMR (AUC = 0.711, 95% CI 0.675‒0.747, p < 0.001) and MHR (AUC = 0.673, 95% CI 0.635‒0.710, p < 0.001). The three-indicator combination showed an improved diagnostic performance (AUC = 0.757, 95% CI 0.724‒0.791, p < 0.001). In addition, the results of subgroup comparisons demonstrated that hs-CRP and MHR were associated with the severity of CHF (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The systemic inflammatory indicators such as hs-CRP, LMR, and MHR were independently correlated with the attack of CHF and might be the complementary markers of the diagnosis of CHF. HIGHLIGHTS Two novel inflammation-related markers, LMR and MHR are associated with Chronic Heart Failure (CHF). LMR and MHR were first proposed to be the predictors of a diagnosis of CHF in this study, which suggested that inflammation was associated with CHF, and anti-inflammation therapy might be a potential target for future therapeutic interventions. Compared with special inflammatory indicators such as TNF or IL-1, LMR and MHR are routinely measured in clinical practice and less time-consuming, which makes them suitable for popularization.

Abstract This study revealed for the first time the dynamic changes of bacterial community and physic-chemical properties in the process of tomatoes fermentation. In the early phase of fermentation, Proteobacteria and Firmicutes account for 86.04% and 9.97%, respectively. Then, Firmicutes replaced Proteobacteria to be the dominant phylum from day 10. Among then, Lactobacillus decreased from 20 to 30 days and then rapidly increased. The total sugar showed a gradual decreased while the nitrite content increased in the early phases. The total acid content increased from initial 0.6% to 2.03% on day 30, mainly including citric acid, malic acid and lactic acid. In the later stages, the number of microorganisms and bacterial community tended to be stable, along with the content of organic acids and nitrite. During fermentation, the physic-chemical parameters inevitably change, mainly due to microbial metabolism, affecting in turns the development of the micro-ecosystem. These results contribute to our knowledge about bacterial participation in the process of fermentation and will help improve the quality of fermented food and vegetables.

Abstract Microglia are the resident immune cells in the central nervous system (CNS), which play important roles in the repair of neuroinflammatory injury. The present study investigated the anti-neuroinflammatory effects of vinpocetine induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in BV2 microglia. BV2 microglia were pretreated with vinpocetine, and then stimulated with LPS (100 ng/mL). The cytotoxicity of BV2 microglia was assessed by MTT assay. The expression levels of nitrite oxide were measured by Griess assay. Proinflammatory cytokines and mediators were determined by Western blot, ELISA, or quantitative real-time PCR. Vinpocetine significantly decreased the generation of nitric oxide-inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase- (COX-) 2 in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, vinpocetine decreased the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-1β. Furthermore, it was observed that phosphorylation levels of AMPK (Thr-172) decreased in LPS-stimulated BV2 microglia. Vinpocetine treatment increased AMPK phosphorylation in LPS-stimulated BV2 microglia. AMPK inhibition by siRNA blocked the anti-inflammatory effects of vinpocetine induced by LPS in BV2 microglia. The overall results demonstrate that vinpocetine has anti-inflammatory effects on LPS-stimulated BV2 microglia via inducing phosphorylation of AMPK, suggesting that vinpocetine is a potential therapeutic agent in neuroinflammatory injury.

ABSTRACT The hydroponic growth system is a convenient platform for studying whole plant physiology, especially for root morphological and nutritional analysis. However, we found that most hydroponic systems described in the literature are not suitable for citrus plants. In this study, a hydroponic system for citrus was designed, comprising three principal components: power and time switch, aeration and hydroponic culture. Herein, details of the protocol were described, including equipment setup, seed pregermination and cultivation, together with preparation and transfer of nutrient solution into hydroponics. In order to demonstrate the adaptability of the trifoliate orange plant to our hydroponic system, comparative tests between soil- and hydroponically-grown plants were carried out. The results showed that the plants grew normally and there were no obvious differences between soil- and hydroponically-grown plants. In addition, nutrient deficiency and transcriptional analysis were carried out to test the efficiency, functionality and suitability of our hydroponic system for the application of physiological and molecular analysis. The results, compared with previous studies, showed that our hydroponic system delivered superior performance as regards the physiological and molecular analysis. Taken together, we established the culture system which is best suited for the growth of trifoliate oranges under hydroponic conditions. The hydroponic system described in this paper is easily constructed and controlled at a low cost. It may serve a wide gamut of experimental purposes, especially root morphological and nutritional analysis of trifoliate oranges and the system is also adaptable to other citrus plants by varying the device size.

ABSTRACT Objective: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is the commonest diffuse liver disease, of which women with polycystic ovary syndrome are at an increased risk. The aim of the present study was to assess the diagnostic value of the semiquantitative strain parameters of real-time ultrasound elastography for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. Subjects and methods: Thirty-five polycystic ovary syndrome patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, 70 polycystic ovary syndrome patients without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and 70 healthy female controls of reproductive age were included. All participants underwent ultrasonic examination and semiquantitative analysis of real-time ultrasound elastography of the liver. Results: Main semi quantitative strain parameters, such as average strain value, differed significantly among groups polycystic ovary syndrome with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, polycystic ovary syndrome without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and control (87.02 ± 10.16 vs. 96.31 ± 11.44 vs. 104.49 ± 7.28, p < 0.001). Clinical and laboratory parameters differed significantly between the two subgroups with low or high average strain value. For diagnostic value of average strain value for elevated aminotransferase, the area under the curve was 0.808 (range 0.721-0.895). In multiple linear regression analysis, polycystic ovary syndrome, waist circumference, and metabolic syndrome were stand-alone independent factors associated with average strain value among subjects without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Conclusion: Semiquantitative real-time ultrasound elastography analysis could distinguish liver parenchyma alterations in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome more sensitively. The diagnostic value of the proposed method for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease need further research.

A series of carbon nanotube (CNTs)-supported copper-cobalt catalysts were prepared and investigated in a slurry reactor for their ability to selectively convert syngas into higher carbon number alcohols. The 7.5Cu7.5Co/CNTs catalyst achieved superior selectivity towards the formation of ethanol (30.1%) and C2+ alcohols (57.7%), while the 10Co5Cu/CNTs catalyst exhibited the largest alcohol space-time yield (372.9 mg gcat -1 h-1). However, the pure Cu (15Cu/CNTs) catalyst displayed negligible activity. Cobalt reduction was enhanced in the presence of copper. In addition to the Cu0-Co0 center, Co0-Co2+ also presented dual active sites for higher alcohols synthesis, the Co2+ site could terminate carbon chain growth to produce alcohols. The ratio of Cu/Co considerably influences the metal particle properties-synergistically effecting the active species.

Abstract Rosa Laevigata Michx., contents of bioactive components contribute to the health beneftis of consuming fresh, snacks and medicine, is widely used as the Chinese medicinal herbs. The effect of fruit ripening on the bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity of Rosa laevigata Michx fruits was investigated. The results showed that, the bioactive compounds, including titratable acidity, reducing sugar, total ascorbic acid, total polyphenol and total flavonoids, significant changes occurred at different ripening stages. The contents of reducing sugar, total polyphenol and total flavonoids were directly proportional to the maturity. However, the content of titration acid and ascorbic acid is inversely proportional to the maturity. Antioxidant capacity and ROS inhibition are proportional to the maturity, and the antioxidant capacity of Rosa laevigata Michx significantly increase during maturity. The Rosa laevigata Michx fruits at fully ripe stage had higher healthcare and medicinal value.

OBJECTIVE: To describe breastfeeding practices in rural China using globally recommended indicators and to compare them with practices in neighbouring countries and large emerging economies. METHODS: A community-based, cross-sectional survey of 2354 children younger than 2 years in 26 poor, rural counties in 12 central and western provinces was conducted. Associations between indicators of infant and young child feeding and socioeconomic, demographic and health service variables were explored and rates were compared with the most recent data from China and other nations. FINDINGS: Overall, 98.3% of infants had been breastfed. However, only 59.4% had initiated breastfeeding early (i.e. within 1 hour of birth); only 55.5% and 9.4% had continued breastfeeding for 1 and 2 years, respectively, and only 28.7% of infants younger than 6 months had been exclusively breastfed. Early initiation of breastfeeding was positively associated with at least five antenatal clinic visits (adjusted odds ratio, aOR: 3.48; P < 0.001) and negatively associated with delivery by Caesarean (aOR: 0.53; P < 0.001) or in a referral-level facility (aOR: 0.6; P = 0.014). Exclusive breastfeeding among children younger than 6 months was positively associated with delivery in a referral-level facility (aOR: 2.22; P < 0.05). Breastfeeding was not associated with maternal age or education, ethnicity or household wealth. Surveyed rates of exclusive and continued breastfeeding were mostly lower than in other nations. CONCLUSION: Despite efforts to promote breastfeeding in China, rates are very low. A commitment to improve infant and young child feeding is needed to reduce mortality and morbidity.

OBJETIVO: Describir las prácticas de lactancia en las zonas rurales de China por medio de los indicadores recomendados a nivel internacional y compararlas con las prácticas de los países vecinos y de las grandes economías emergentes. MÉTODOS: Se llevó a cabo una encuesta transversal comunitaria de 2354 niños menores de 2 años en 26 condados rurales pobres de 12 provincias del centro y oeste del país. Se investigaron las relaciones entre los indicadores de la alimentación de lactantes y niños pequeños y las variables socioeconómicas, demográficas y del sistema sanitario, y se compararon los índices con los datos más recientes tanto de China como de otros países. RESULTADOS: En general, el 98,3% de los niños había sido amamantado. Sin embargo, solo el 59,4% inició la lactancia pronto (esto es, una hora tras el nacimiento); solo el 55,5% y el 9,4% había continuado con la lactancia durante 1 y 2 años, respectivamente, y solo el 28,7% de los lactantes menores de 6 meses había sido amamantado de forma exclusiva. El comienzo temprano de la lactancia estuvo relacionado de forma positiva con al menos cinco visitas clínicas prenatales (coeficiente de posibilidades ajustado, CPa: 3,48; P < 0,001) y relacionado de forma negativa con partos por cesárea (CPa: 0,53; P <0,001) o en un centro de derivación (CPa: 0,6; P = 0,014). La lactancia exclusiva entre los niños menores de 6 meses estuvo asociada de forma positiva con un parto en un centro de derivación (CPa: 2,22; P < 0,05). La lactancia no estuvo asociada con la edad o la educación de la madre, la etnia o la riqueza del hogar. Los índices medidos de lactancia exclusiva y continuada fueron en la mayoría de casos inferiores que los de otras naciones. CONCLUSIÓN: A pesar de los esfuerzos para promover la lactancia en China, los índices son muy bajos. Con objeto de reducir la mortalidad y la morbilidad, es necesario un compromiso para mejorar la alimentación de lactantes y niños pequeños.

OBJECTIF: Décrire les pratiques d'allaitement maternel dans la Chine rurale en utilisant des indicateurs recommandés au niveau mondial et en les comparant avec les usages des pays voisins et des grandes économies émergentes. MÉTHODES: Une étude transversale a été menée, sur base communautaire, auprès de 2354 enfants âgés de moins de 2 ans, répartis dans 26 comtés ruraux pauvres de 12 provinces du centre et de l'ouest du pays. Les corrélations entre les indicateurs d'allaitement infantile et du jeune enfant et les variables socio-économiques, démographiques et des services de santé ont été explorées et les taux ont été comparés avec les données les plus récentes en provenance de Chine et d'autres pays. RÉSULTATS: Dans l'ensemble, 98,3% des nourrissons avaient été nourris au sein. Cependant, seulement 59,4% avaient bénéficié d'un allaitement précoce (c'est-à-dire au cours de la première heure après la naissance), seuls 55,5% et 9,4% avaient poursuivi l'allaitement maternel pendant respectivement 1 et 2 ans et seulement 28,7% des nourrissons âgés de moins de 6 mois avaient été exclusivement nourris au sein. L'initiation précoce de l'allaitement maternel a été positivement corrélée à au moins cinq consultations prénatales (odds ratio ajusté ORa: 3,48; P<0,001) et négativement corrélée à la naissance par césarienne (ORa: 0,53; P<0,001) ou en hôpital d'aiguillage (ORa: 0,6; P=0,014). L'allaitement maternel exclusif chez les enfants âgés de moins de 6 mois a été associé positivement à une naissance dans un hôpital d'aiguillage (ORa: 2,22; P<0,05). L'allaitement n'a pas été associé à l'âge ni à l'éducation de la mère, ni même à l'ethnicité ou au niveau de richesse du foyer. L'étude a révélé des taux d'allaitement exclusif et continu généralement plus faibles que dans d'autres pays. CONCLUSION: Malgré les efforts pour promouvoir l'allaitement maternel en Chine, les taux restent très faibles. Un engagement visant à améliorer l'alimentation du nourrisson et du jeune enfant est nécessaire afin de réduire le taux de mortalité et de morbidité dans cette catégorie de la population.
