Contrast sensitivity function measured with sine-wave gratings and tumbling E in different patterns of visual loss

RESUMO

A função de sensibilidade ao contraste foi medida em pacientes portadores de catarata, neuropatia óptica e retinopatia diabética mínima, com redes senoidais e com o optotipo E e comparada com os resultados de um grupo controle normal. Nos pacientes com neuropatia óptica, a rede senoidal foi mais sensível para a determinação das perdas visuais em baixa frequência. Nos pacientes com catarata o uso do E amplificou as perdas em altas.

SUMMARY

The contrast sensitivity function was measured with sine-wave gratings and the tumbling E in patients with cataract, optic neuropathy and background diabetic retinopathy and compared with a normal control group. For the patients with optic neuropathy the low-frequency lasses were more evident with sine-wave gratings. On the other hand, the high spatial frequency losses showed by the patients with cataract were greater with the tumbling E.
