Neuralgia dos nervos trigêmeo, glossofaríngeo e vago

In this paper a case of multiple neuralgia of the essential type is reported. The patient complained of pain on the skin and mucous area of the 5th, 9th and 10th cranial nerves on the right side and no organic lesion could be found. The patient was operated upon; as first step a "cavolysis" was performed. Twenty five days later the 9th cranial nerve was divided intracranially; the anterior 1/3 of the 10th cranial nerve was then sectioned too. Pain disappeared for a period of 6 months; when this period had ellapsed the pain returned. As the recurrence was thought to be referred to the remainder of the 10th nerve complete transection of this nerve was performed. Pain disappeared soon after this last operation. Two months had ellapsed when this paper was send to publication and the patient referred no pain.
