Art education: a look at the rear view mirrors

Through the metaphor between the direction of a automotive vehicle and art education are discussed three knowledge required for the practice of teaching in the visual arts: historiography, critical/curatorial and artistic production. In defense of the specific art in the Arts discipline, are listed reasons justifying the position that the art object can argue with quality and independently of other visualities issues inherent to the human condition. The article presents a bibliographical studies with a qualitative approach that seeks to support research investigations into teacher training of visual arts and from concepts specific artistic area. We conclude that the removal of these concepts would trigger a substitutionary education, palliative, putting art without clear assignments within the school curriculum.
