IOHEXOL MYELOGRAPHY IN DOGS

SUMMARY Iohexol, a new nonionic water soluble contrast medium, was used for myelographic examinations of six dogs, five of them were normal. The sixth animal was hit by a motorcycle and showed spastic paralysis of the thoracic limbs and flacid paralysis of the pelvic limbs. In the myelogram of this dog, the contrast medium did not advance beyond T11 and the macroscopic exam confirmed the T11 vertebral body fracture. The myelography quality was excellent since iohexol provided an adequate and homogeneous opacification of the subarachnoid space. Iohexol flowed satisfactorily and thoracic and lumbar myelographies were obtained by cisternal puncture. No convulsions were observed in the present study, indicating the lower neurotoxicity of this new contrast medium.
