Editorial

Dear readers,

This publication has started the year 2012, the last of our editorial team ahead of the Journal of Food Science and Technology. 2011 was a year of hard work, but it certainly allowed some progress. In the first editorial, we announced the challenge of getting the available articles accepted for publication in the system Ahead of Print (AOP) to receive the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) before they are published, thus facilitating the search and citation of the article. Today it is a reality that can be verified in every article that contains this volume.

The resources that allowed us to manage the magazine came from different funding agencies (CNPq Process no. 400193/2011-6 and no. 402394/2011-9; FAPESP Process no. 2011/50829-6) and will be sufficient to conclude the administration. The rate of processing articles has increased, but the reflection gain delay to appear. We especially thank the dedication of our reviewers, since nothing would be possible without their hard work.

However, it is time for the scientific community think about the next challenges for the improvement of international indices for the evaluation of scientific publications, especially the impact factor. This opportunity will take place at the XXIII Brazilian Congress of Food Science and Technology - 45 years of Food Science and Technology in Brazil, which will occur in Campinas - SP, from 1 to 4 May 2012. In this event, the community will have the opportunity to exchange ideas on issues focused on science. The editors of the magazine, together with guest editors, will discuss the direction of the Journal of Food Science and Technology. You are invited to take part in this discussion!
