STATIC PRESSURE GRADIENT OF THE FORCED AIR FLOW WITHIN LAYERS OF ORGANIC WASTE MIXED WITH DIFFERENT PROPORTIONS OF POULTRY LITTER

ABSTRACT

This study aimed at fitting equations for estimation of the static pressure gradient of the air flow applied through layers of organic waste mixed with different proportions of poultry litter. Pressure gradient was measured by a specific prototype submitted to discharges between 0.02 to 0.13 m3 s-1 m-2. The measures were taken in layers of sugarcane bagasse, coffee straw and sawdust mixed with poultry litter in ratios of 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40% (at a volume basis). The three models Shedd, Hukill & Ives and Hunter were fitted to the experimental data for prediction of the pressure gradient and the airflow rate. Lower static pressure gradient was observed in layers without poultry litter addition and higher ones were seen in layers with 40% poultry litter.
