LISETE ARELARO: ACADEMIC DENSITY AND POLITICAL STRUGGLE PAVING THE WAY TO HOPE

ABSTRACT

This article highlights some contributions that the educator Lisete Regina Gomes Arelaro leaves to Brazilian education in its long and dense trajectory in defense of public school, free, secular, and of socially referenced quality for all. She brought, like few intellectuals, consistent academic background and fruitful collaboration in academia, public administration, political, and trade union fields. She has dedicated herself to educational policy, democratic teaching administration, popular councils, teacher training, and education financing, against the allocation of public resources to the private sector. She worked with Paulo Freire, implementing emancipatory education with the popular classes. Her ideas and practices continue to guide the struggles towards egalitarian and libertarian utopias.
