Bryophytes of the urban center of Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil

Three areas of study at the urban center of Caxias do Sul were selected, with higher or lower antropic influence and where the vegetation is in different levels of preservation. One hundred and fifty nine taxa were found, belonging to 87 genera and 47 families. Anthocerotophyta is represented by two families, two genera and three species. Marchantiophyta by 16 families, 29 genera and 63 species and Bryophyta by 29 families, 56 genera and 93 species, these two are determined until variety and one until subspecies. The families with larger specific richness are Lejeuneaceae, Fissidentaceae, Orthotrichaceae, Bryaceae, Pottiaceae, Metzgeriaceae, Dicranaceae and Plagiochilaceae. In comparison with the other studies of urban Bryophytes developed in Brazil, Caxias do Sul presents the largest number of taxa. Among the three areas studied at the urban center, larger similarity was observed between the two areas where the vegetation is in better conservation status, unlike the area in which the human occupation is larger.
