Language and ideology: theoretical collisions

In this essay, theoretical reflections about the way in which ideology and language are connected are compared. The purpose of this comparative analysis is to illustrate how the explanations about these two instances can be divergent. The theoretical apparatus includes classical thinkers (Althusser, 1985; Pêcheux, 1995, 1997; Bakhtin, 1999), the contemporary author Thompson (1995) and the Marxist critic Eagleton (1997).
