Abstract
The main objective of this work is to provide a brief comparative commentary on five translations of Memórias póstumas de Brás Cubas into English, published over approximately 70 years. The primary focus will be on the treatment given by the translations to specific items of Brazilian culture and history. Some paratexts of the translations will also be considered, as paratexts can be a resource for dealing with specific cultural elements, or cultural markers.
