Today we can consider Pró-Fono to be a scientific journal of great importance, a journal which represents in the country the scientific production of our field of knowledge, mature in its editorial line of work, with a determined profile, the international means by which we gain immediate visibility of the researches published by ourselves.

As everyone already knows, we have triple indexation: PubMed/MEDLINE (International C); SciELO (National A); CSA (International with no score) and LILACS (National B). We are going through the indexation process in ISI (International A and B), but we still have not reached what they consider to be primordial for the configuration of a journal: global influence of our researches in the international scientific community and metric performance for an impact index.

With this, a few ideas will be studied by the Editorial Group:

• increase the number of publications in Pró-Fono of foreign high standard authors;

• increase in our articles the number of citations of ISI journals and of high impact authors;

• include citations of Brazilian authors, giving preference to those with ISI international production.

Finally, these are a few ideas and I would like to have your support - invite your international contacts to submit manuscripts to Pró-Fono. A MEDLINE journal should have authors of several countries in order to better divulge the state of the art and the speech-language and hearing science.

So, we have a lot of work ahead of us. In the second number of 2006 we have 10 articles, all of which were exemplarily analyzed and reanalyzed by our reviewers.

The research developed by Juste e Andrade (2006) has as a purpose to classify, quantify and compare the typology of speech disruptions presented in the speech of stuttering and fluent children. The results indicate that typical disfluencies do not differentiate the groups. Regarding the less typical disfluencies, stuttering children present statistically significant differences.

Neiva & Leone (2006) present a research article with the purpose of describing the development of the sucking pattern and the effects of non-nutritive sucking stimulation in pre-term newborns. The results indicate that the sucking pattern develops according to the corrected gestational age. The stimulation of non-nutritive sucking increased the probability of labial sealing, rhythm, tongue central groove formation, of tongue peristaltic movements and of coordination between sucking-swallowing-breathing. The gloved finger demonstrated to be the most efficient form of stimulation.

The article of Papp & Wertzner (2006) had as a purpose to verify the phonological processes presented by children with phonological disorders with and without family history of speech and language disorder - the association between the phonological processes; the difference in the PCC-R severity index regarding the family history. The results of the study indicate the influence of the positive family history, suggesting that in the presence of phonological disorder early intervention should be encouraged. The PCC-R severity index did not differentiate phonological disorder regarding the family history.

Soncini & Costa (2006) investigated the influence of musical practice over speech recognition auditory training, comparing a quiet and noisy situation. The results point that musical practice improves the ability to recognize speech in the presence of noise.

The study of Matas et al. (2006) aimed to verify the occurrence of middle and late latency auditory evoked potentials disorders in adults with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The obtained results were not significant for middle latency and significant for late latency.

Miilher & Ávila (2006) characterized the linguistic and narrative productivity, in oral and written narratives, of scholars with oral and written language disorders. The study concludes that there is higher oral lexical productivity if compared to that observed in the written task; there is a lower use of time markers and fewer numbers of certain episodes in the written modality.

Costa & Chiari (2006) verified the performance of a group of hearing impaired children in a vocabulary test (ABFW). The study concluded that younger children present better performances in the semantic fields of animals, means of transportation, shapes and colors. Older children demonstrated to have the domain of most semantic fields.

In a research with elderly individuals, with normal hearing thresholds in the frequencies which are most import for speech recognition, Fonseca & Iório (2006) aimed to identify the minimum time of interaural delay - produces lateralization to the ear which the stimulus reached first - through ascendant and descendent techniques. The results bring sophisticated information about the hearing process of elderly individuals.

Salfatis & Cunha (2006) present a case study of a patient with laryngeal focal dystonia, emphasizing the reciprocal effects between voice and psychism. The results point to the importance of a more ample approach - hearing and psychism - when dealing with the symptoms that are manifested in the voice.

In a literature review done by Meirelles et al. (2006), the aim was to research in the existing literature the speech and language aspects related to the normal development of oral language and to describe the main characteristics observed in children with Saethre-Chotzen, Apert, Crouzon and Pfeiffer syndromes.

Claudia
