Anthropology of the senses and sensory ethnography: dissonances, assonances and resonances

ABSTRACT

In this work we try to situate the relations between the anthropology of the senses and the sensory ethnography, observing the dissonances, assonances and resonances present in their theoretical and methodological scopes. We present some contemporary perspectives and sources of this relationship, notably the reflections proposed from Geertz’s interpretive anthropology (1989GEERTZ, Clifford. 1989. A Interpretação das culturas. Rio de Janeiro, Ed. LTC.), those of the authors of the “Santa Fé Seminar” (1984), of the anthropology of the senses proposed by Howes; Synnott; Classen, (1994) and Laplantine’s modal anthropology (2017LAPLANTINE, François. 2017. Le Social et le sensible. Introduction à une anthropologie modale. Paris: Téraèdre.). Our discussion is also anchored in the contribution of Ingold (2000INGOLD, Tim. 2000.
