Spirits, history and colonialism in Guyana

ABSTRACT

Through a dialogue with the anthropology of history, in the article I analyze how spirits of Dutch colonizers in Guyana, formerly British Guiana, act as agents, actors, and narrator of the historical process. I argue that spirits participate in the formation, (re) creation and circulation of knowledge, facts, and experiences that are associated, by humans and spirits, to the colonial era of Guyana.
